All this recruiting success makes me wonder if NIL is really an issue!?!
Leary is rumored to be getting $800k in NIL deals.

Rowland posted the other day that a handful of boosters have covered the gap for us this year with NIL money, but that they wouldn't be spending at this level in the future. Essentially people like PTI need to start opening up their wallets.

So then it’s a non issue and not near as bad as it was portrayed?

If that isn’t enough for a kid to play college football then good luck out there kid!

A week ago our recruiting class was ranked 50th, a week ago 3 or 4 donors wrote big checks to save our class. It's literally been the difference between having a really good class and a horrible class.
That's the opposite of being a non issue.

They need a permanent position to identify the next 10 - 15 donors willing to help and start the process now. Being disorganized and waiting for a last minute Hail Mary is not a great plan.

Gotta remember, this is the same crew that gave their 7 figure donors stale popcorn and self serve soft drinks in a dark cave at Rupp.

I think they put me on some kind of Return to Sender list after my last letter completely undressed Coach Curry for promising Eric Gray they would remove the Triple I Bone offense while Jeff Speedy was starting? I guess my suggested leaving the Triple Option for Speedy and a 2 back offense for Gray was too revolutionary at the time...

Would watch footage of the Blue-White game that Eric Gray lit it up if it exists. It's second to the Jordan-lead college basketball Olympian scrimmages against the NBA stars for me (yes I know there were clips in the Jordan documentary but I mean all the scrimmages).

I know Mitch sucks ass at everything, but what school IS doing a great job with NIL?? Which AD *is* out there crushing it on the NIL scene?

I ain't no genius or nothin, but I just don't see any way the future of the industry is for schools to compete against themselves and cannibalize their own donors by hitting up every Joe Blow with a UK t-shirt for a totally new and different $50 donation. Some of y'all really think we're just an e-mail campaign or a telethon away from competing with Alabama on the regular?

As I've said previously, we don't exactly have a huge roster of filthy rich alumni to pull money out of, so we're going to have to do more with less. It's what our loser idiot AD has done for 20 years, and he's done pretty well.

Random drop-in… and I’m sure there a hundred problems with this stupid idea, but gonna throw it out there anyway

Sell alcohol at the games. Get a collective involved in it. Sell the drinks in commemorative cups featuring the names.. images.. heck, even the likenesses of players.
Overcharge for them, say they’re $12-15 a pop. But all the profit goes to the collective. Mitch says we don’t have to sell alcohol in part because we don’t need the money. At the same time, he’s asking for more fans to support NIL although I fail to see a fan incentive to do so. Ok then, let all the alcohol sales go to NIL.

“…. But we can’t have underage players promoting alcohol!”
They’re not. They’re promoting cup sales. You can fill the cup with water, sprite, bud light, Mr. pibb zero. Idgaf, but seems like an easy loophole.

I’m sure Mitch wouldn’t go for it… but it’s all in how you pitch it. He’s a fan of honoring the legacy of long-dead greats affiliated with this state even though they have nothing to do with Kentucky athletics. So in the name of the late great Henry Clay, “the great compromiser,” Mitch should allow this concession (pun intended) to keep NIL afloat.

Said it before but schools like UK, with a big operating budget but lesser in the donation ranks, would be better off leading the charge for paying players via tv revenue/% of overall revenues.

UK has a $150mm operating budget but can’t put $10-$15mm aside to pay the athletes? GTFOH. Why is this on the boosters? Only the very high end schools can support this forever. Look at A&M… they bought their first class and there is already rumblings of dissatisfaction.

I’m sure if you asked the athletes what they wanted: constant top of line facilities/etc or hard cash, they’d rather have the cash.

Why do the fans have to fund this? Coaches salaries and non stop facility improvements are out of control. Give the kids that $$ instead.

I don’t see why it’s so hard to figure out for UK.

Reach out to your boosters, corporate sponsors etc and set up a NIL fund they contribute to. Have a “career day” type setup where the players meet these folks or their reps and have them help promote the businesses.

Commercial ads, meet and greets, or like Brady have a few autograph sessions etc where the businesses can also benefit from the support they give.

Otherwise, this whole thing is a short term play to milk a few cows once or twice and put them to pasture which sounds like what happened this recruiting season.

No reason a portion of the budget cutitloose mentioned is feeding that fund too so it’s all around support.

- The Double Dare obstacle course is still on my bucket list 30 some years later.

- This upcoming forecast has me wanting to make a huge pot of chili, stock up on cold boys and just bet sports/ponies and nothing else Friday and Saturday.

- Days getting longer and longer starting tomorrow.

- I'll take Town House crackers barely over Ritz for my peanut butter spread.

- A simple Christmas card in your mailbox from a friend is just fine by me. I work in a building with about 92% females (80 some employees) and I made them all cards with a personalized messaged; went over really well with the lassies.

- Used to crush math and geography races in elementary school. We actually had a "league" 5th grade year and our team was like the '27 Yanks. Still have that Blue Ribbon somewhere.

- When I retire, I'm all-in on being a Keeneland usher in the box seat sections. Been making friends with a couple for the last 4 years. Section B and C, holla!

Actually, love making a trip over during off-season and just sitting in some seats for a few (while Christmas shopping there) and taking in just how beautiful that place is.

- Have a huge boner for NSD tomorrow and the upcoming year. When do the basketball Cats play again?

Gonna take a shot at a duck ragu, pair it with a Toscana Red or not?

I’m not a wine guy at all, but per the ingredients I can’t say a bourbon goes with it at all.

-I’d pair it with the same thing I always pair my supper with, a tall glass of milk. TS.

-Truly think some entity will begin to close the door on the free for all that is NIL. This system can’t keep up forever, there’s just not enough of other peoples money they’re willing to give away forever.

-Dog refused to come inside (not fenced in at Moms) from 3-5a last night and I couldn’t go back to sleep while he’s running around in 20 degrees. Was not happy.

Get home today and he just throws up on the rug without moving, like he just waited for me to come in. Then just looks at me like clean that up hoe.

So guess who’s not eating supper or going out tonight? Furthermore, I may sleep in a different bedroom so he doesn’t bother me tonight. Little toucher.

The problem with Bryce Hopkins is that he is short and doesn’t jump high enough. I can’t jerk my spicy sausage to paltry combine numbers. Actual production be damned! I want to imagine how good a jumping athlete with mediocre handle and no jump shot might be at basketball.

I'm up and my bowels are active. They dropped off a large brown salamander into the porcelain pond.

Family was on our way to Pittsburgh for Christmas listening to the Steelers-Raiders game when the Immaculate Reception occurred. Of course, 19 month old me had no idea of what had happened, but my parents always talk about how that was the happiest they ever saw their families for Christmas. People don't realize that this was the Steelers first playoff win in their 39 year history.

I do have home movies of myself from that Christmas wearing a Steelers button as large as my head, climbing thru some new gifts from my Dad's side of the family while the giant console tv behind me was showing replays of the Immaculate Reception on a loop on the local Pittsburgh tv station.

RIP Franco
