As I’ve grown older I’ve found that one of my “guilty pleasures” is going to a movie by myself. Went yesterday morning, had the entire theater to myself. Didn’t pull a Pee-Wee Herman but I guess I could have. Saw “Menu”

seemed like a good time to bring that up with all of the restaurant talk

I’ve had 5 Ruby steaks this calendar year.

Zero of them were discernible from any other prime steakhouse. Several worse or equal, 1 standout.

That includes chains such as Ruth, and locals that aren’t even PRIME, etc.

It’s a fantastic Atmosphere, especially in Lexington. A great social night out. I get it. And I definitely enjoy as a straggler VIP.

But the once perceived aura of “best steak around by far” is simply, & patently false, from a FOOD ONLY slant.

Sides overall are also well below par for the genre. Mushrooms elite, however. Wedge is fire.

Will enjoy again countless times for certain, mainly for the company…but that’s my objective take.

It’s a great steakhouse, Lex is fortunate to have one, it’s just not the *only* place for a good meal, or steak. Far from it.

Probably banned from crew now 🙁

Agreeable meal with good friends and live music is perfect. I mean... I'm not going to a bar in Lexington after dark. Those days are over and I'd honestly be miserable. So, couple Manhattans and split a bottle of wine. Catch a ride at 11-1130. That's a good night for these folks.

... and yes, I try to limit my binge drinking these days and replace it with working out.

One of my last romp fests was with a few people from Gyero after a UK basketball game at a place I think was Redmonds. Was still drunk when I drove home the next day. Damn, I miss being able to drink but definitely don’t miss that hangover.

Anything from the raw bar is also a good option for an app.

I love some sautéed mushrooms with my steak, but I'm over the Ruby's style with the cabbage. The Potatoes Anna and the Mac and cheese are great. I also like the Brussels Sprouts.

Ruby's has a good Caesar salad for starting out if you like them, can't go wrong with a Freddie though.

Their specialty is steaks. Just order one that looks good to you.

The house special Manhattan is a great drink, I like a good old fashioned before a steak too.

Speaking of raw bars, are there any good places that I can be a gluttonous pig on payers and whatnot and not get my pocketbook completely shaken out? Honest question.

Last time I ate oysters I ate 3 dozen solo for like $24 total. Went to Dudley’s a while back with the folks and mom was like oh Mark would like to split some oyster? I was said absolutely until I figured out she meant a 1/2 dozen for $24 😂. I said thank you but I’m good.

Can’t imagine eating TWO whole oysters in a sitting. I don’t need $1/oyster but 6 for $24 is ridiculous.

Up since 2:30 this morning. Tossed and turned until 4:30 and gave up. Coffee, shower, work. Feels gross.

Wife and kids got smashed into by a delivery truck that swerved into their lane last week. Everyone was okay. Busted up the car though. Wife gave a clear description of the accident to the police. Other driver's statement: "I don't know what happened." Police report was also clear and cited the other driver with failure to maintain their lane. Got an email this morning from State Farm (other driver's policy) stating that their insured was not legally responsible for the accident. WTF. Based on a phone conversation with them, it's because the police weren't present to witness the accident as it occurred. If that's the standard, how is any police report on a car accident ever valid?

Just received a 3rd weekly injection of steroids behind my eardrum from an ENT. This was the prescribed treatment after waking up with an ear ache a few months ago and then gradually going deaf in that ear over the next several weeks. If any doctor ever suggests this treatment…RUN! You don’t need to hear out of both ears that bad…

I did 6 of those injections. My ear popped one day and completely lost hearing in it. After the 6th injection still no improvement, told the ENT thats a wrap. I'll just be deaf in one ear for rest of my life but not going through the shots anymore especially since zero improvement.

FYI you will develop vertigo, losing hearing in one side jacks you up. Will even mess with your eyes as one eye will constantly try to turn outward searching for sound.

Also if you do lose in one ear dont spend the $ on the CROS system, really not worth it. My airpods do everything that system does for $3k less.

-Always heard good things about Porcini's but never been. Just too far down the list in Louisville when I'm getting to pick a spot. Menu looks dope though. Give me SW and the original Bavette's in my Steakhouse power rankings.

-I'm taking Rich's suggestions with a HUGE grain of salt considering the dude loves Pat's. He's a bottom 5 GYERO palate now that WCC has moved up.

-I sent a waiver request to Jeffery Ruby and was granted permission to visit River House(Louisville) and Frank & Dino's in the near future. Very generous of him to let me out of contractual obligations to only eat with Toots.

-I'm not wearing a Bellarmine hat because Idgaf about Bellarmine sports. I like when they win but I'm not wasting any emotional energy on their sports. That being said, I'd love to crush a few demostos at Shenanigans.

-This season of White Lotus is actually turning out better than last. The Italian hooker is ❤️‍🔥. Stuck with it because it's in the only part of Sicily I've visited. I've picked who I want to be killed, but it'll likely be a character I like.

Anth… I haven’t been to Pat’s since 2006. I still respect that place for being an old school staple of the local culinary scene but the last time I stepped foot inside the place Tubby was coaching at UK and you & Wodie were roommates at that pad with the pool. I honestly wish the owner would try to make it a St. Elmo’s kind of place. You can be old school but improve the space some and upgrade the quality of food. It’s not reaching its potential, IMO.

My usual go to at Porcini is the Gnocchi Con Salsiccia but the last time I patroned went with that Filet option and it was the tits.

Love both places but in terms of atmosphere/setup…
