-Otis Redding is the greatest soul singer of all time...no one is close.
He's easily top 5...can be 1, 2, 3.... depending on who you ask on what day. But to say no one is close in a genre that is FILLED with extraordinary talent, ground breaking historical achievements and longevity is about as short sighted as you can get. Any "greatest" list in music is always debatable.

FAME and Muscle Shoals Sound Studio tours is a bucket list day for anyone who loves music. Call in advance to be sure they are both open and their hours as they are kind of random--and you want to see both. From Aretha Franklin, the ABB, to the Stones' Wild Horses and Brown Sugar to Isbell to virtually anyone who recorded in that era and since. A little out of the way but worth it. The music scene in Florence is pretty good for a small town if you stay the night.

As for me, heading to 30A next week, come back and the oldest daughter is getting married. Staying in Nashville through the first of the year and then off to travel again starting in Jan/2023. I spent most of last Fall in Ft. Myers Beach and that place is, sadly, totally devastated. Playing a little more golf after having not played in 15+ years---still not very good but enjoying it. Hit 6 years sober late this summer and that's better than being dead...which is probably where I would be had I not stopped. Seeking out some of the smaller Nashville music venues and really enjoy the insane talent in this city. If you have a chance to see The Time Jumpers at 3rd & Lindsley just go--I'm not a big fan of western swing but damn those guys are unbelievably talented.

Peace to all and enjoy the ride....

-Richie wore horse bits on a guided bass fishing trip. He needs to ease up on the critiques for a bit.

Think again, hoss cat. They were SWIMS which are 100% waterproof made out of nylon and rubber. I wasn’t wearing running shoes that would get cold, wet and soggy.

And since I’m a fishing novice I didn’t feel the need to go spend some silly amount on “fishing shoes” or what not since this is probably going to be a 1-2 days a year occurrence for me. Albeit you would’ve done the opposite.

Tennis shoes, duck boots, hiking shoe/boots. Hell, I typically wear flip flops.

Loafers. 😭

What guide was it?

The problem with Cal and jeans/coat is he doesn't tuck his shirt in and has a huge gut. It looks awful. I don't have a problem with jeans/coat if it's not sloppy.

Marvin, Sam, and Otis are all wonderful. No need for splitting hairs.

Obviously not in the same stratosphere but I enjoy David Ruffin. Of course with the Temps, but his solo stuff is solid. "My Whole World Ended" is a favorite.

We just don't get those voices anymore, and it makes me sad.

Wilson Pickett is buried over at Evergreen here in Louisville. My Dad went to his 3+ hour funeral but bowed out around hour 2 following the 3rd or 4th fainting in the crowd. Wish I had footage of his honky ass in there tbh.

- Agree, but Leon Bridges is no slouch. Really enjoy listening to him.

- BIG Jon Sumrall guy here. Second his "successor" proponents.

- "IT'S TIME FOR A CHANGE" is not enough of a campaign slogan to sway me. Nor anyone else with a brain. Gotta tell me why.

- I do appreciate candidates who still get out and pound the pavement. Have vague, but fond memories of accompanying my dad as he ran for public office back in 1981. Sometimes I'd go up to the porch and stand there while he conversed with voters. Other times I stayed out and sat on the curb. But it definitely helped plant seeds for how I've tried to treat people. When my dad passes, I hope the thing people will remember about him is that he treated everyone with dignity and respect, no matter who they were. Learned that about him back then.

- Sonny Dykes is as big an example of "good coach, bad fit" as I may have ever seen. Mediocre at Cal, which was way out of his wheelhouse, but flat killing it at TCU (after doing the same at SMU). That's why I think Harsin will be happy to take his $$$ from Auburn and head back out west. The guy hasn't forgotten how to coach. Square peg, round hole, etc.

- Someone mentioned "That Ain't My Truck" by Rhett Akins a few days ago. But "She Said Yes" was his best.

- I don't wave at houses, but would if the offer was right. I know my gift and will not give it away for free.

- Simply put, Russ is the most athletic PG of all time. No one else is really even close. Perhaps PRIME D-Rose and maybe Ja. But no one has done what Russ has been able to do physically at that position.

- All of this talk of Michael Keaton and we're just going to ignore Steve Guttenberg? Salute to Johnny 5, respect!

- Bowling Green is ablaze with Shaq's arrival. I'm not sure if he's actually staying here or flying in from Nashville. I doubt the Holiday Inn at the Convention Center has beds big enough to accommodate him. Our football team played their game last night because of this? Or a ref shortage. Believe what you will.

- My childhood best friends (brothers) are huge UT fans. Not only that, the oldest is a know it all and is "connected" with the UT program. He came in to visit last night and it's awful, you guys. We've been in many fights over UT and UK that have nearly ruined our friendship and it about happened again last night. His keen observations:

1. FAT Josh ain't going anywhere. He's a VOL 4 LYFEE and despises Oklahoma these days.
2. He met Pat MacAfee during Gameday and knows a ton of stories about him and Peyton Manning . . . which he told over and over to anyone walking by.
3. There are proper ways to rush the field. Both of his sons are UT students and went to the game last week. He had to have serious discussion as to the proper way of celebrating so they wouldn't get hurt.
4. He's so thankful for UK over the last 15 years so they could at least count on a few more wins during their Bama draught.
5. He thinks of Mark Stoops exactly with UKO thinks of him: Stoops is MID. He wants us to keep him forever!

-jeans/sport coat is an abhorrent combo.

^only exception is a coarse tweed....maybe over a nice cashmere cable knit, idk. Laced boots.

-untucked shirt with sports coat is beyond awful.

- Sup, fools?

- Caught up on 50 pages over the last two days. Seeing the predictions, in-game reactions, and post-game for all three of Ole Miss, USC, MSU was somethin’.

- Welp, after two years I decided the high net worth banking experiment was a no go. Back in law at a small, boutique, injury firm called Morgan & Morgan. May have heard of it, the founder is from Lexington.

- Had a few sovereign citizen cases in my tax litigation days in my former law life. You literally cannot talk with those people, they have absolutely zero grasp on reality.

- Going to my first “adults only” Halloween Party in many years tomorrow. Lass is going as Britney in the red bodysuit from Oops I Did It Again, I’m the goofball astronaut. I’ll take it to see her in that. 👀

- Keeneland was perfect for this Kentucky soul last weekend.

- Way late on it, but deep dove into the Murdaugh Murders Podcast over the last couple weeks (on episode 52 of around 70). You couldn’t make that story crazier (and more sad and heartbreaking) if you tried.

- You could maybe talk me into 9-3 going forward from here, but I’ll stick with 8-4.

- Basketball season gonna be dope.

- I, too, finally got the green light from the lass on the big V. Have heard from multiple people it’s really not that bad. Aiming to schedule for the first weekend or The Masters as a backup.

- Irks me when my usual Starbucks is out of my regular order, and I have to go to a different one. Throws off my whole routine.

- Keep it real.

This is the issue. Robert Redford looked smooth as hell in a blazer and jeans combo in Three Days of the Condor. Of course Redford also was neither fat nor dressing like New Jersey trash, either.

A blazer, v-neck sweater, button up, and jeans ensemble is a timeless fall classic.

I can accept Heupel is a solid college football coach, and I understand his scheme has taken over in a perfectly timed season where Bama and Georgia lost almost their whole starting defense from last season.

That said, I can’t accept that Tennessee is this good. I haven’t really watched a lot of their games, but what I did see is mostly RPO where Hooker tosses it 40 yds and a WR runs under the ball wide TF open.

I’m not sure if a well schemed blitz package to speed Hooker up is best, or a Nickel zone and hope are front 4 keep him contained while the zone keeps them in front of us until he eventually makes mistakes.

Either way, this UT team made UF look solid after we embarrassed them, and Pitt played to the end with them.

I like our chances!

Anth,

I think it was Morgan’s Guide Service at Jamestown Marina. I had fun. It was about spending time with the old man and his 2 buddies whom I’ve known since I was kid. We stayed at his buddy’s house minutes away from the Marina.

The night before we enjoyed some chili and I sat back & listened to some tall tales. My Dad’s friend got so whiskey bent I had to help carry him to bed and then look for his hearing aids that he couldn’t locate.

One thing stood out… It absolutely amazes me what that generation will believe. WELL “THEY” SAY THAT IF ENERGY COSTS CONTINUE TO RISE WE ALL MAY BE HAVE TO CONVERT TO ELECTRIC VEHICLES BY 2025.. I AINT DOIN IT. AND, THEY SAY THAT OSCAR TSHIEBWE MADE OVER $3 MILLION IN NIL DURING THE BAHAMAS TRIP AND ITS UNIVERSALLY KNOWN THAT UL WILL GET THE DEATH PENALTY ONCE THE NCAA MAKES ITS FINAL DECISION. BOY, KENNY PAYNE, WISHES HE DIDNT TAKE THAT GIG.

So Dana White really got this approved to be his next big thing from the Nevada State Athletic Commission....

Reeses peanut butter cups are the 🐐. You might like something else better, but that's just a radical opinion, sort of like saying Westbrook doesn't belong in the HOF.

Going fishing in loafers is pretty ridiculous too.

I've been on a big Bill Withers kick lately. Otis is still probably the best, but not without question or debate.

Would love to see the studios in Muscle Shoals. The amount of top notch music that came from that tiny, country town is amazing.

FUT

Boy has been home sick the last couple of days. He slept all day yesterday, today it's been non-stop board games.

I think UK D will play a lot of nickel, send 4 most of the night, have a spy on Hooker, and clog up passing lanes with 6 db's. We will maximize the bend don't break philosophy. We'll also eat clock as much as possible on offense to reduce overall posessions, can't get into a track meet like last year.

The weather forecast is pretty awesome at the moment. I do wish we could get some rain though, not sure I've ever seen the pastures around here so brown and dry.

I need some nature therapy.

My 74 year old dad sits around watching Fox News and and believing everything they say getting angry all day long and boy does it show. Among his biggest gripes is that the Police pretty soon are going to be banned, and nobody’s allowed to say “Merry Christmas” anymore.

He doesn’t fish in penny loafers though. So at least he’s got that going for him.

- My best friend's mom texted her to warn her that she couldn't find frozen turkey ANYWHERE, and THEY were making sure that China used all our food sources so we would all have to eat bugs instead of meat. Who knows where that one came from.

- My favorite "olds believe anything": I had to explain who The Game was to my grandparents some years ago because they said, well, Trayvon Martin was a scary looking thug! Just look at him! And then showed me this picture:

They were still pretty skeptical that the child shot by George Hernandez was not, in fact, a 30 year old member of the G-Unit. How they didn't fall for the scam calls from my "cousin" asking for money because he was "stuck in Mexico" I will never know.

Liking this new Arctic Monkeys album so far

New Carly Rae Jepsen full of pop bangers as usual.

Not giving MIDNIGHTS or Midnight, whatever it's called the time of day but this is pretty much white girl Christmas today. FFS

Congrats on the residuals brady.

I’m trying to get as many high end cards turned into real estate as I can. A Tom Brady I sold for $120,000 in January just sold for $30,000 last night. Luckily, I moved a ton of it already.

It’s been an amazing f’n run. But some of these dolts are going to get caught holding a bunch of expensive coasters.
