I'll bite, it isn't, and it's unconstitutional to convict a POTUS once he's out of office, so it makes this entire circus that much more laughable.

This impeachment has nothing to do with the flimsy arguments they propped up today.
Here is my opinion, for what it's worth, as the more likely, and unspoken reasons for it.
He scares them:
He was essentially a 3rd party POTUS and pulled over 70 million REALLY dedicated followers, and I think he poses a larger threat for the House and Senate. Like I said before, given the fierce loyalty in his hardcore base, it's not that far-fetched that, in the right areas, he could help pull 25 Congressmen, and 7 or 8 Senators to a third party win. Which would spell disaster for the Big 2. The system is so gamed against a 3rd party movement, that the only way it will ever happen, is via an outlier like Trump.

The threat of a 'document dump' - a scorched earth declassification of documents that could be "awkward" for sitting politicians.
Given that the Senate can't even start a trial until after Trump is out of office, the whole thing was for nothing.
For my part, I'd love that crazy bastard to throw a wrench into the works. Because, well, I think the Federal government is the most vile organization in this country. And the older I get, the more I think anarchy would be fun.

Not likely. Most of what I've been able the find says at BEST it's undetermined whether or not they can even convict him after he's gone. But the needle seems to point more towards the side that they can't.
It seems like he just doesn't want to come here. Like, "I guess, if I HAVE to, and as a last resort, I could maybe come and play for Kentucky (sigh)"

I think he may’ve seen some terrible reminders of despicable race relations in the hollers of this state that were amplified way beyond their actual impact at the height of his emotional decision-making process.
