Old school GYERO & Kentucky fans in general on Twitter during Cal’s first few years was awesome. It was raw. The college basketball self righteous purists didn’t know what to make of Cal’s philosophy & hated it, we were experiencing crazy success, and all this led to “Us Against The World & Get Pumped” mentality. Some hack with an agenda tries to write a slam piece and here come The Faithful in droves.

I miss it. I miss the fire and rage. I miss Calipari immediately setting the damn tone for the UK vs UL rivalry telling Reginald Delk “ You don’t want to mess with him.. You’re effing with the wrong dude.” I miss “ Kentucky is unlike other states like North Carolina or Michigan because they have 2 programs”. The constant shots at UL and Pitino.

Total and absolute unapologetic brashness. We took college basketball by storm, shook it up and nobody knew what to make of it. I want these feelings again.

I think Pitino leaving took a lot of the fun out of it for Cal tbh. JMO.

I mean, F IU and all but perhaps getting that rivalry stirred back up would be good for him/us.

Dude’s got nothing eating at him.

Probably the fact that K is kicking his ass at his own game. FBI case is also eating at him and other coaches as well. Different landscape for everyone. (Coach K not included)

Wow, you're famous.

Cal needs to be more Michael Corleone rather than Sonny. Take all these bitches out at once rather than getting blasted on the causeway.

Shorts

-Forgot to mention the new SW terminal at LGA. Apparently it opened up a week before we arrived -- wow, what a change from what was essentially a single a few wide trailers w/ about 30 seats & zero restaurants, bars, or any other basic amenities. Was seriously the worst place on earth, was really hoping Chad would get to enjoy.

Shake Shack, an actual Italian restaurant by Scott Conant, Sushi Bar, Mexican restaurant, several cafes/bars, a Spa, and comfortable 'smart' seating out the wazoo. Wonder why Southwest got first dibs...how does that work? Do the airlines themselves share a cost in that, I assume? Regardless, makes for a nice non-miserable experience traveling to my favorite city going forward.

-KrazyKats, if you simply want to buy expensive bottles of bourbon, just sign up for a Facebook account and join the Bourbon Secondary Market (BSM) group. It's a one stop shop.

-Found a store pick Buffalo Trace yesterday for $25.

-I have an unfounded pang of hope for the basketball team this week. We've been begging for a shake up of ANY kind, and while it wasn't what I'd have picked, maybe it will have some sort of effect.

-Golf yesterday evening in shorts. Not a huge fan, but also felt it necessary to take advantage before it gets sloppy.

-That KyKy dunk was just nasty. Chin on the rim, and dunking over a 7'2 dude. The new angle that surfaced yesterday. :eyes:

The little amazed blurting of “Jesus Christ” at the 8 second mark really sets it off. Insane dunk.
Is Poythress the only non Kentucky guy to stay 4 years under Cal? That was only b/c he torn an acl.

Not only that, but Cal has only had 2 guys stay for even a junior year that weren’t from KY or didn’t have a season ending injury basically force em back (WCS). Lee and Poythress.

I’m tired of this either or debate — one-and-dones or 4-year players. Once the ball tips, the game doesn’t give AF what your NBA projection is. Bottom line.....we need lots of really good players. If you’re only gonna stay for one year, then you’d better be ready to contribute from day 1. If you’re gonna stick around 4 years, then you’d better grow and mature your game every season.

Right now, our entire team seems to be stuck somewhere in between.

@PTI (pti)

Sources say this is a place called Dorignacs earlier today:

$80 each for the stacked stuff.

Don't know a thing about it other than a source was there earlier. Trying to be nice today.

Cal fought all comers to get to be at a blue blood where he could recruit the best talent, because he knows that at the end of the day elite talent wins.

I think that's what stokes his fire, coaching Wall, Cousins, Towns, Davis...he wants to be the show.

K stole his fish, if Zion or Barrett was on this team Cal would be swaggin' around everywhere and we would be one of the best 5 teams in the country. But they aren't, and we aren't.

Time for HOFCJC to chill out, embrace the modern game (that 3 point stat MJ was discussing on his show is ridiculous), let his players play a little and sit down, develop Hagans and Quickley, leave Herro's shot alone, and take a long look down that bench come the off-season and ask himself "what would 08 Cal do with this group?" if we don't ink Hurt and McDaniels.

Just got back to the office after a 4 day work trip to NYC. It's a lot easier to enjoy that place when everything is being put on the company dime.

Little disappointed I only saw two celebrities, though: Kenny Payne and this dude:

He's exactly right, except for the fact that each of the last 6 teams to advance to the title game was decidedly "veteran-heavy."

Not sure whether to laugh or cry.

I'll venmo you if you go get me a case of Blantons and Weller and Elmer T. TIA. Even pay for you gas home for XMAS. Edit: Not at $80, I missed that part. The Elmer T Maybe.
Moi??????

I would if I were there but it will have to be PTI. Pulled that from a bourbon hunting thread on the Main Board.

Coach K took some time off back in the day for "back surgery" and he's had several spans where he looked like the game might have passed him by only to reinvent his approach and, as always, dominate college basketball.

John Calipari is, I believe, a better college coach than K and that's the highest compliment you can give someone. Had Calipari had the opportunity to head one legit program for multiple decades like K, I think Cal gets the same results or better.

WITH THAT SAID, there is a fat and happy about fake accomplishments "feel" to the program right now. Everyone knows Calipari is either the best or second best college coach alive. But it feels like he's mailing it in and coasting.

That is what is frustrating. And maybe some of it is just predictable. Even the best have fallow times.

But, as Ritchie said, that lean hungry Cal that came here in 2009 was awesome and we are just trying not to be too big of bitches about where we are at now because that was, probably, unsustainable.

I mean John F***ing Wall now looks like a guy crack dealers wouldn't trust. So maybe time makes slackers of us all.

It would be awesome, for me, to see Calipari go reinvent himself this summer and re-commit.

At Dorignacs now.

Weller Antique 107 (red) — $80. 10 cases of it.
4 Blantons for $80.
Lots of Old Fo.

Antique 107 is awful anyway. I have 4 bottles of it and a fifth one opened and less than an once out of it. Gross!

I’m not overpaying(at least I don’t think so)for any of this stuff except one bottle of Pappy as I was caught in the moment, but sold it for $150 profit too.

Since the day I turned 21 I’ve bought a few bottles of woodford every November and it usually last until spring since I rarely drink. But this year was different because I never paid attention to the bourbon markets until I went to New Orleans earlier this year and saw Jim Beam prices higher than Woodford. At that point I wanted to try some of this other stuff, and like a kid in a candy store I’ve about had everything except the Pappy’s and am ready to settle back into my Woodford groove as it’s still the best to me with Weller 12 and George T Stagg right with it.

Currently have:

2- Kentucky Owl $140
1- George T Stagg $130
4- Weller Antique $40
2- Weller 12 $50
3- Blanton’s $70
1- EH Taylor $50
1- Sazerac Rye $25
2- Stagg Jr $50
1- Heaven Hill Old Style $30
1- Weller Special Reserve $25
3- Woodford $35

I will make sure I have a set of Weller, Pappy, George T Stagg and Kentucky Owl as collectors with a few added here and there.
