Jay Wright is Sollozzo. Time to have a sit down with him in an Italian eatery, preferably one with an old fashioned toilet, you know the one with the box and chain...

Every year we should've done what the team that won the title did instead of whatever stupid crap we actually did.

Blah. You're smarter than that.

Calipari is f***ing incredible and thank God for him.

But if you had to pinpoint his biggest flaws, they would be (in order):
  1. Recruiting way too big and then reverting to small ball when he realizes that his roster doesn't support a winning team. (A corollary is always being a guard short, which he's seemed to fix after realizing what an asset a medium talent like Dominque Hawkins was).

  2. *Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay* undervaluing shooting and *waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay* overvaluing size.

  3. Squandering Top 50ish talent by trying (either consciously or subconsciously) to stick every player into a ONE AND DONE trajectory and not providing a way for guys like Charles Matthews, Stacey Poole, Daniel Orton, Izak Humphries etc to prosper here rather than make them look like failures if they take a little longer to develop.

  4. Slipping in recruiting lately. (Which I do not expect to persist.)

  5. Forgetting to / being tone deaf when marketing to Billy Joe Wildcat. This is seemingly stupid but his constant bullshit about Ending Generational Poverty, etc is off-putting to Average Kentucky Fan. Almost every single UK fan *WANTS* to see these guys make millions but skipping the step between them winning here and making millions in the NBA is a quick way to alienate the very people that give him the power to do what he does so well.
This season sucked. It isn't a big deal if we are building off of it and are going to improve. But Calipari really needs to improve some optics to Average UK Fan because everyone wants Shai Gilgous-Alexander to be a millionaire but we better win some shit first.

And if we lose Washington, Vanderbilt, and (to a lesser extent) Diallo, there's going to be a serious reason for UK Fan to say "What's in this for me?"

How many of you would be happy if we failed to make it past the 2nd rd in 7 of the last 9 years? That is what the almighty beautiful style of basketball God, Jay Wright has done.

As with Coach K, I would *ABSOLUTELY* trade our consistent tournament success for another title over that time span.

This is not hyperbole or bullshit to make a point, either.

Give me the title. Coaches (and coach's mouth pieces like Matt Jones) hate that because titles are fairly random but I would 100% trade places with Duke or Villanova* over Cal's tenure.

*Assuming Villanova wins tomorrow night.

Good, because that’s how it works. You can trade one teams resume for another.

I’ll take UConns resume this century, plus a player to be named later, and cash considerations, for Kentucky’s resume, along with a protected 1st round draft pick in 2019.

See how easy that was?

Good, because that’s how it works.

Of course that isn't how it works. Thanks for pointing that out, though!

But the argument of "SO YOU'D RATHER GO OUT IN THE SECOND ROUND FIVE OUT OF SEVEN TIMES RATHER THAN DO WHAT CALIPARI DID?" is stupid.

Of course every UK fan wants to win every game and of course Calipari is f***ing incredible at his job. And of course he's some bad breaks away from unbelievable success.

That's sort of the point.

We're all jackoffs on the internet bitching about a guy who is incredible at his job, so whatever.

I stand by my point that Calipari needs to re-calibrate towards shooting, stop trying to stockpile every 7 footer with a pulse so other teams can't use them against him, and *SOME F***ING HOW* learn how to keep upperclassmen and develop them.

That isn't some revolutionary concept and I guarantee everyone here agrees with it.

And he does seem to be calibrating toward shooting. That's good! It is the seeming inability to keep and develop guys that is so worrisome.

Killa's 'Lightning in a Bottle' comment re: Jay Wright is absolutely ridiculous.

Imma chalk it up to lack of sleep due to a sick kiddo and try to forget it.
Meh, never said he wasn’t an elite coach but I don’t think this last 3 to 4 year run will be the norm for Nova going forward.

If it is and he doesn’t go to the league, then all hail the next John Wooden!

I wonder if BBdK lactates. He craves drama like a woman. Watches crime drama like a woman. Only posts to stir drama. (Like a woman.) Can't carry a point if he isn't all, you know, miffed, like a woman.

And generally behaves like a wigger Hottentot Venus.

Let’s talk about a team full of NBA talent losing to a bunch of honks because Cal rode the Harrison train one stop too far in game his other potential generational talent could eat the other team’s lunch. That feels more productive right? Right?!?

Whatever. I know I went over the top yesterday. Doesn't mean HOFCJVC is above reproach. The March issues are concerning, and they are real, considering other then UNC in 2017 they've lost to less talented teams every year.

At some point, play to your strengths in March, which is superior talent. Take the air out of the ball, and it allows teams to get hot and stay in the game later.

At least the Reds are on pace for 0-162, so that's good.

Obviously, Cal isn’t above criticism...but are we going to do this woe is me bs until the Bahamas trip?

Can’t wait until the Warriors play their first series and Chumps fires off 5 straight posts about Cal not recutting shooting or having a modern offense.

Hoping Minnesota drops to the 7 seed so they get them Round 1.

And Thibs is the NBA version of Cal. Allergic to the 3. It's maddening.

-At FIBAs Cal lost Langford(granted his dad sounds like a bitch), Reddish, Bol Bol and to Canada? Stick with Caribbean countries, big guy.

-Saturday was :raised_hands:..... the current 10 day can GGP.

-Isn't Hossler the kid from the US Open a few years ago and has an incredibly hot mom?

-Seeing all these kids protesting with their moms in Frankfort. How pissed would you be if your mom drug you to Frankfort on day 1 of Spring Break to stand in the cold rain?

-Who has better signs? A predominantly female protest or Gameday? Some real effort being put in out there.

-So Carney, the Golden Corral guy, is also a teacher? We really are f*cked.

-Masters Week. [smoke]

Man, we have been crazy for a long time. 15,000 UK fans welcome home their first championship team.

* Fantastic weekend....

- ran a 10k pr (i guess, just never really run that distance).

https://runsignup.com/Race/Results/46436/IndividualResult/QJGh?#U26061823

42:11, 6:48 pace. 344th overall out of 13,895.

- waxed a bunch.

- helped host a friends 60th birthday. this guy is from mexico city, came to the us in hs unable to speak english, ended up with a full soccer scholarship to evansville, got a big job on wall street in his 20s/30s, then "retired" in his mid 30s and traveled the world for almost 20 years. now he makes just enough to get by, basically owns nothing, volunteers at the local homeless shelter every single day, and is the happiest person i know. we raised $1300 to make a contribution in his name to the shelter, and presented the shelter with a plaque to name the kitchen in his familys name.

- gay easter parade in the french quarter yesterday.

* This lack of tournament success shows an ignorance that is quite stunning, and fails to take in the big picture. History is much better studied years in retrospect than it is in the current. Using the same criteria, every coach in NCAA history has had a lack of tournament success. Check this out, the year in which the following coaches earned their second national championship....

John Wooden = 1965, 17th year at UCLA
Coach K = 1992, 12th year at Duke
Dean Smith = 1993, 32nd year at UNC
Roy Williams = 2009, 21st year overall (15 at Kansas + 6 at UNC)
Tom Izzo = n/a
Denny Crum = 1986, 15th year at Louisville
Adolph Rupp = 1949, 19th year at Kentucky
Rick Pitino = n/a (** redacted **)
Jim Boeheim = n/a
Bob Knight = 1981, 10th year at Indiana
Jim Calhoun = 2004, 18th year at UConn

Bunch of gd chumps, if you ask me. So, nobody has ever been successful in the NCAA Tournament, basically.

* I feel like I'm in the middle of a full blow technology assault. In the past 2 weeks, I've had my Sling account hacked, my gmail account hacked, someone set up a fake listing in my Air BnB account, my cell phone has been reported stolen.....wtf?

* Scooter Gennett is hitting .538 so far in the young season. If he can keep that up, I feel the Reds can probably climb out of this hole and have a decent year.

Obviously he is gone...but damned if Knox Sr.'s quotes don't sound like the unusual case of a parent wanting a kid that could be lottery to come back.

His dad says a decision is "imminent," but he hasn't gone to work out, hasn't tested the process yet. If he was coming back I think he'd go work out, get the feedback, and then make a decision. If a decision is imminent right now it's probably to hire an agent. He's not going to announce "imminently" that "I'm going to go through the draft workout process but I'm coming back."

Umm....wut?

If seeing the tournament is such an issue for him, Chumps probably should save his cash from some of those whack concerts and Reds/Crew games hes going to and divert that money to a single Master's ticket

You can watch from 3:30-5pm on ESPN, iirc. CBS for the final few holes on Sat/Sun.

-Nice little staycation night on Saturday -- stayed down at the new Omni. Place is pretty awesome for this little town.

Hit up Hell or High Water (great spot) for a few cocktails , watched some Goat races, then did a bunch of Margs/Shots at Galaxie Bar. Wife passed out at the table at Impellizzeri's (7pm) shortly thereafter, paid for our order (that we weren't able to stick around for) and left. Escorted her back to the room, then walked to White Castle for a nice little solo Saturday night dinner. :fire:

Nice lil way to burn $300 in your hometown.

Wodie, you really know how to class up a story about public intoxication and fast food. If you and the missus ever want to get drunk at my house and eat pizza and white castles, I'll only charge you $150 and I'll put a mint on both your pillows.

That White Castle on Market St is the best one in the world, no question. Their Big Red is on another level and the chicken rings there are little all-white meat delicious snacks.

-Lex has a lot of culinary short comings and no accessible White Castle is #1. Why there's not one near campus is completely baffling. Been ages since I've been to WC.

-TV coverage sucks but I'll be streaming all day. No big deal.

-This Randy Sanders stuff sounds like it could be bad.

Their Big Red has its own separate tap, removed from the other soft drinks, properly signifying BR's supremacy. WC has their priorities straight.
