Not only metal detectors, but put the dumbass in jail for 10 years for bringing a gun to school. Send a damn message.
Same thing happened in one of the Bham city schools earlier this week. Guy brought a handgun to school, was showing it to people, and it discharged killing a 17 year old girl. It discharged a second time and someone else was shot (supposedly he shot himself in the leg).

That poor kid probably thought it was the annual Bring Your Gun To School Day. A rite of passage your Governor so fondly remembers from his childhood.
Here's a truth I'm not sure most people want to believe. The overwhelming majority of schools have virtually no perimeter security and you can walk in through any random door and not be noticed for several minutes.
And, most of the schools all have the same excuses of why they won't do anything about it.
1. Money
2. Laziness
But Catlanta, we don't want to have to use cards. Why does it cost so much to secure that door? I don't want to have to walk around to the front when my classroom is right here in the back. We simply don't have the money for this (installs new 40 foot scoreboard at the football stadium).
It truly is one of the saddest and most enraging parts of my job to see nothing but indifference to other's safety, especially children.

At Russell County High School you have to go through a security checkpoint by car through the only non-gated entrance. Once you get to the school there's only one open entrance, unless you have a key, and that entrance leads straight to the office where you have to check in. And it's been that way since I was in school.
If f'n Russell County is capable of doing that in 2002 there's no excuse for other schools.
I do find it curious that the same sorts of politicians who would be fine with all public schools being burned to the ground are also keen to dish out money to arm/train teachers to shoot bad hombres. Just one of those weird things I'll get when I'm older, I guess.

When my dad was in high school, he shared a locker with a guy who kept a handgun in it for a while. Luckily, his lockermate wisened up and got rid of his gun... by selling it... at school... to the gym teacher. That was my dad’s America, IMO.

Chase told me if we banned assault rifles we wouldn't have school shootings. The two yesterday were with handguns. I REALLY thought Chase had this figured out.

I too remember when the Kentucky public school system was top notch. We were near the top in all test scores, our teachers were paid higher than any other state, and our state pension funding wasn't an issue.

Other than the rampant poverty, obesity, lack of education, opioid addiction, lack of revenue, and general poor health, Kentucky is a veritable utopia.

It's that Mitch also won't stand up when someone invariably tosses out UNC as a two-seed. Think he's gonna chime in when all those bowtie-wearing honks start saying that UNC's bad losses really aren't that bad, and that their strong conference gives them as much right to be a 2 as anyone else in this topsy-turvy CBB season? False.
