Gottlieb just DESTROYED Pitinio

I don't get it, the empathy shown for these two guys is sickening to me. Why? Because the local media is following the script Pitino is writing. "The poor kids" "They don't deserve this"...blaaaaa
This isn't the 1st time innocent kids have been screwed over by previous coaches and devious players. Where was the out cry then? Bottom line, you play for a University, you live and die by the University. No 1 kid(2) in this case is bigger than the school itself. These two players left a school that recruited them, gave them a education, and they bailed. Pitino is using these two guys as pawns in a game he is ultimately going to lose.

Absolutely. Good life lesson for these kids in that life isn't fair, and if this is the worst thing that ever happens to them, then they are beyond fortunate.

Exactly. We live in this age where
People want to teach these guys life should be fair and without consequence. They play for the university. They are given free education by that university. They represent that university. Well that means they will suffer the consequence of that university.

Life lesson. Watch your situation as best you can and CYA. No one in the real world is going to do it for you.

That was a fantastic blasting and well deserved. The entire sob story they're trying to rally the fanbase around is absurd. Yes two 5th year transfers are getting punished for something they may not have done but thats kind of missing the point. The entire team, fans and school are going to be punished for something the school has done. Every team and school thats ever experienced a post season ban has had "innocent" athletes.

Just in case the absurdity of the the whole thing isn't obvious enough I provide a visual aid.

I'm definitely not a fan of Gottlieb but what he said was spot on. And I find it hard to believe a control freak like Pitino had no idea these parties were going on. One or two maybe but four years of it going on there's no way he didn't know. And at most schools he would've been shown the door for the Sypher scandal. But at a cesspool that is UofL he got a raise instead.

I personally think that 1 or 2 years is too long. I could go with 2 months. Pitino coaches these boys and he is around them every day he was bound to hear something.
Whores and strippers were entering a secured building where a security guard maned the desk at night.

I go into some of the dorms on campus including wildcat lodge. During the day a UK employee mans the front desk but after four students work the front desk at the dorms.

I would not doubt that the security guard has had to give hisself up to start covering his own butt. Which means the cover up is over.

Investigations usually come up with the facts and people start singing a different tune when they are confronted by the facts when interviewed or questioned by law enforcement agencies.

What kills me about the link to UL message board is the people saying they can't understand the hatred towards Pitino. They act like he's a saint. News Flash: He's had 2 sex scandals. Any coach in America would have been fired yet they are pissed at people saying he should be gone.

Not a Gottleib fan at all, but he nailed it today on TV. The whole Rick playing the victim card, don't punish the 5th year players, make schools pay large fines... How about avoiding all of that and making sure the program you run does not put kids, some who are still 17 or 18 year old kids, in danger for the sake of winning a few games. If they did that from the get go he would not be worrying about Lee and Lewis playing in the tourney. If this had been his first time maybe people could cut him a break and give him the benefit of the doubt, but his past has proven that this area(women and sex) js not a strength of his. As far as Vitale and the other media members sticking their neck out for him they are flirting with danger - if this gets worse they are going to look pretty dumb given what we already know today.

I can't believe Vitale is supporting Pitino.......oh wait, this turd had a brainfart, I can believe it.
The same Vitale that wants Larry Brown out forever.
Vitale is just a cheerleader. He always takes up for his pals and his favorites. But you're right, there is no defense this time. He's either complicit or incompetent. It happened in Minardi Hall for goodness sake, not off campus somewhere. As I say, he either knew and turned a blind eye or he's incompetent. Either way, he's responsible.

Pitino is and always has been so damn phony.

In all fairness, so is Gottlieb. He isn't condemning Pitino on principle. He just doesn't like anything associated with Kentucky or Louisville. I looked up his comments on Roy and they were quite tame, to be honest. Why the double standard?

UL is just trying to avoid a ban for the 16-17 season.

That ban would make players like Mitchell, Spaulding, and V.J King free agents.

It also makes UL less attractive to potential coach's that UL will be interviewing at seasons end.

I hope UL and Pitino make a little racket about UNC,the school probably can't go there but Rick is likely to come off with something when we least expect it
Unfortunately it will probably be mentioning UK, like he did in the press conference where Moses described how he led us back to the promise land, instead of UNC and their filthy laundry. Judas ought to instead focus on the Sodom and Gomorrah atmosphere he has created at Sleazy U and leave us completely out of it in the future.

I could see him making a reference to UNC in a pre/post game news conference if someone asks a question that rubs him the wrong way. Lately he has been all over the map when a mike is in front of him, under the current circumstances there is no telling what he might say.

He has used his time at UK to make whatever point he is trying to make very frequently as of late.Probably more than some at UL would like.

That's right!

Lee and Lewis are being sacrificed in this so that the program can avoid TRUE probation!!

The worst part about probation is when the players are allowed to leave because of a post season ban and UofL is trying to avoid this.

I'm sorry that Lee and Lewis are too stupid to know that they are getting screwed by the school they play for.

I hope that the NCAA is smart enough to see through this!!!!!

You are probably right but UL may not be as good next year as they have proven to be this year so it is a risk they are evidently willing to take.I think they are likely going to be in start over mode next year any way, what are the chances Pitino is there?

It would seem they are in a no win situation and probably didn't help themselves all that much with this move. It seems probable that there is a big rest of the story that is not public knowledge currently. Pitino may or may not be part of the puzzle,if he is not why wasn't he gone when this broke at the press conference unless he is a bargaining chip for UL with the NCAA at a later date(at end of season)

Am I the only one that wasn't all that happy with the way CBS set up Gottlieb's remarks? They focus in on our 96 'banner and begin talking about Pitino's situation, they keep the camera on the banners during most or all of the comments,if someone had tuned in at that time or if the segment was shown as a stand alone piece then some would think he was the coach at UK. (now before some of you go off on me I'll get my tin foil hat from under the couch)

When our probation hit, EVERYBODY left!

That's why the "unforgettables" banners hang in Rupp Arena.

We were left with a roster that shouldn't have been able to compete at Pikeville college, let alone UK!

Luckily for us, those kids came together and the fans embraced them and with Pitino's coaching, it was magic.

UofL is trying to keep everyone there from the AD on down and just get off with a post season ban.

They think that next year, it's business as usual and their roster remains in tact.

Like I said...

I hope that the NCAA sees through this.

I get that they(UL) are trying to avoid more sanctions from the NCAA but the comparison of the probable/possible UL roster situation to the one we had with the unforgettables is a much different situation.Basketball is a different game now, those guys had ties to UK that no college player has now to any school..

My point is that no matter what UL did with respect to this season(like they used to say in the old Batman t.v. show)the worst is yet to come. They might as well have rode this season out and let the chips fall. If Rick was truly in the dark about the post season ban this could be a message that you are done here.

Oh, you are right...

I'm saying that UofL is TRYING to avoid the roster loss, which is what truly decimates a program.

They haven't and won't TRULY embrace their own fault in this and it's evidenced by their willingness to sacrifice these 2 5th year transfers in an ATTEMPT to keep their roster in tact going forward.

If they missed post season in 2017, they'd HAVE to allow the players to transfer.

They THINK that this basically "one month" probation that they're self imposing will be all that they have to deal with.

I figure that they THINK that they may lose a few scholarships or something, but that will be about it.

UK decided (rightfully so) that they were going to get rid of the cancer completely back in "88".

UofL is treating the symptoms whereas UK cured the disease.

^ We see this the same, I just don't think UL has many cards left to play(that was bad on several levels) but I think they made a bad choice given what is likely to happen in the next couple of years.
