Agreed....that level of competition in Southern indiana is worse than most of the Eastern Ky HS divisions. not shocked he's going to need a year to get the job...maybe halfway point of season he can find some spot drives. There is a very big jump from Southern Indiana high school football to D1. Gonna need some time.
UK needs Goodwin to be the player every college from A to Z tried to sign and not some Matt Elam 3 year project.
Its wild to me that people expected perfection from a starting left side of 2 guys making their first starts vs a team that uses a bunch of different stunts and blitzes. And acting like the end of the world is upon us. They're going to be fine.Do we have anyone that can coach him up??
O-Line play was the worst its been in at least 7-8 years.
It ain't going to be fine....it was a hot mess in bowl game...it was pretty much the same vs a MAC team. Now we're getting into SEC play....Levis won't make it thru the season with that left side. Its wild to me that people expected perfection from a starting left side of 2 guys making their first starts vs a team that uses a bunch of different stunts and blitzes. Coaches are fine time for growth is more importantDo we have anyone that can coach him up??

"Expecting perfection" and worst O-line play in 7-8 years are not even in the same ballpark. Its wild to me that people expected perfection from a starting left side of 2 guys making their first starts vs a team that uses a bunch of different stunts and blitzes. Very important for someone who used to be as out of shape as him (early high school years) and that put in the work to get where he is to not get behind the ball on staying in top condition. Getting out of shape again can snowball for some people. I have a lot of strength in our S&C program thoughHe looks out of shape. Will probably need a year of S&C before he’s much of a factor.
A little below the belt to call out Goodwin...he's anything but fat. He's just still a 18 year old kid who no matter what his rating...needs time to adjust to college from HS."Expecting perfection" and worst O-line play in 7-8 years are not even in the same ballpark.
If Goodwin is a legit 5 star LT, get his fat @$$ out there on the field and play him into shape. Stop waiting for him to be perfect. Utilize the talent, and the experience will improve the outcome if the talent is there.
Yep, our senior captain moving to LT. Just awful. They felt like Jager played well clearly and have faith in Horsey to be able to do the job asked of him bc, again, hes a senior captain. It ain't going to be fine....it was a hot mess in bowl game...it was pretty much the same vs a MAC team. Now we're getting into SEC play....Levis won't make it thru the season with that left side.
How do you feel now given Horsey is moved to LT...that looks like a really bad sign for rest of season.
Take a deep breath man. Its going to be ok. Cox, brand new to center. An OL with as many new players as we had playing was going to struggle against stunts and blitzes. It takes time for those guys to gel together, all im saying is its not time to throw the towel in just yet."Expecting perfection" and worst O-line play in 7-8 years are not even in the same ballpark.
I know you are a coach (or I think you are). If so, you know it was not just the left side of the line that was horrible. Center made several poor snaps. Left and right guards whiffed on SIMPLE stunts coming up the middle. Not even going to address the tackles. Ray Charles could see that disaster happening.
You can bury your head in the sand and say everything is going to be OK, but losing CRod and the total failure of the O-line to run or pass block anywhere near SEC level should have everyone concerned. I know CMS was concerned about RB and OL play. He said so, and I am going to go with CMS on this one.
The question is, is it fixable? I don't have that answer, but I have seen no one capable of playing SEC level tackle, and guards and center are suspect at this time. More practice and more game reps, they should improve. But, we should not be facing these issues if we have the solid program and O-Line development that we have had under Schlarman.
It may be as simple as Drake, Landon, and Darrien Kinnard were 5 star talents, and we no longer have that kind of talent on the O-line, but I certainly did not see the same tough, hard-nosed play out of the O-line that we were accustomed to seeing under Schlarman, and CMS called out the soft play, especially in the run game. A 3 star can play as hard as a 5 star and be just as nasty on the O-line. That comes down to coaching.
It seems there is more of a "family" type atmosphere, bros before hoes kinda vibe going on in that room now instead of the fire and brimstone that Schlarman used to bring every day. And I think that is showing up on the field. Stoops better light a fire under all of their @$$es, or it will be a long, long season in Lexington.
If Goodwin is a legit 5 star LT, get his fat @$$ out there on the field and play him into shape. Stop waiting for him to be perfect. Utilize the talent, and the experience will improve the outcome if the talent is there.
Don't understand how we have ended up with the catastrophe in the RB room that we now have. There has been plenty of time and players available in the portal to get this fixed if they knew CRod was going to be out indefinitely. CMS needs to have a come to Jesus meeting with his position coaches and his QB, who played like a scared freshman with no energy against Miami of Ohio, for gods sake, no less, and light a fire under this program.
Not sure we know how to play as a favorite. Need to learn from Saban what it takes to win when you are expected to win, and that appears to be, give em all hell even if they do win. Demand perfection. Saban does.
Uh-oh, there's that perfection word. Can't demand that from OUR players. They are too young, too inexperienced, too soft, too injured, too......too....too...
He was a 2 year starter and leader on the Oline just 8 months ago in Citrus bowl and got his ass handed to him all day long vs. Iowa. The kid is a solid guard...he ain't a tackle. You can take your Sr caption all you want....he's not a tackle...he's a guard and we already have plain evidence he isn't going to excel out there.Yep, our senior captain moving to LT. Just awful. They felt like Jager played well clearly and have faith in Horsey to be able to do the job asked of him bc, again, hes a senior captain.
Wasn't calling the kid out. Calling the coaches out. Someone else stated he was out of shape. He has always struggled with a weight problem.A little below the belt to call out Goodwin...he's anything but fat. Calling Goodwin a fat ass is sort of calling a person out. I agree I'd like to see him out there getting snaps but he probably needs to learn his assignments and acclimate. He played in pitiful competition....he might not even know basic assignmnets yet.Wasn't calling the kid out. Calling the coaches out. Someone else stated he was out of shape. Stating facts is not calling someone out. Sitting him on the bench will never help him get adjusted to college. Play him. If he can't play every snap, play him the plays he can perform up to speed in. I'm sure he's not a total bust that can't get a run play down. Play him.
Some of our O-line players are soft. They will not get tougher standing by the coach.
Lol. OK. You are one of those people who take a comment and hyperbolize every statement.Take a deep breath man. Its going to be ok. Cox, brand new to center. First of all, I didn't call Goodwin a fat ass. I said to get his fat ass out there on the field and play him. Time will tell if Yenser can coach this group of linemen up.Calling Goodwin a fat ass is sort of calling a person out. It is so hard to know if Yenser is in over his head in just a spring and 1 game now.....but all we can do is see waht he's got over 12 games and then re-assess.
They literally made adjustments in the lineup this week...id say that's doing something different.Lol. OK. You are one of those people who take a comment and hyperbolize every statement.
Wanting the team to play better is not "throwing the towel in". It is just acknowledging that this team has some critical flaws that need immediate attention, "if" they are fixable, this coaching staff needs to do something different than what they have shown up to this point.
Relax sir. Not giving up on them just yet. Just disappointed in the O-line play and the lack of a running game. Both of which, we were at the top of the SEC just a short time back. It appears we have sacrificed our physical running attack for an improved passing game, which we needed in the worst sort of way, yet we gave up run blocking and pass pro at the same time.
50 Rushing yards against a MAC team and 4 QB sacks doesn't lie. Sometimes, we just can't handle the truth.

You are expecting some kids either right out of high school or only a year or two out of high school seeing their first action on a major college field to be great out of the gate because of their star ranking or expectations or whatever. The kids we have will be fine with time and experience. You don’t want Wolobaugh to make mistakes, but want them to “play Goodwin into shape” and to “Stop waiting for him to be perfect” why are you willing to accept something short of perfection from him while he learns but not the others?"Expecting perfection" and worst O-line play in 7-8 years are not even in the same ballpark.

Nope. Not what I said. Sorry you interpreted it that way. Didn't expect any of the newcomers to be "great". Did expect them to play hard and be prepared for their opponent. You are expecting some kids either right out of high school or only a year or two out of high school seeing their first action on a major college field to be great out of the gate because of their star ranking or expectations or whatever. Goodwin will be a good player. But he did not win an important role in the preseason because he is not ready. Most true freshmen need some time. It is not a matter of the star rating. It is about physical conditioning and learning the play book. LT is one of the key positions and most complicated positions on the field. When Goodwin is ready, he will be an impact player. That time is somewhere in the future. Not now.He didn’t play much. As bad as our line was, I thought we would have seen him more.
First of all, I didn't call Goodwin a fat ass. I said to get his fat ass out there on the field and play him. Time will tell if Yenser can coach this group of linemen up.
If not, Gran needs to step in and help them out with the run game. At least he knew how to run the ball.
We knew Elam was a big project, he just seemed like someone who would reach that upside. Goodwin is a little pushy, butUK needs Goodwin to be the player every college from A to Z tried to sign and not some Matt Elam 3 year project.
I’m generally optimistic, but unfortunately I agree with all of this. We know the line is going to improve, but how much and how fast? There’s a lot of OL talent, but not enough experience, and it really shows. He was a 2 year starter and leader on the Oline just 8 months ago in Citrus bowl and got his ass handed to him all day long vs. Iowa. The kid is a solid guard...he ain't a tackle. You can take your Sr caption all you want....he's not a tackle...he's a guard and we already have plain evidence he isn't going to excel out there.
As far as Jager goes....I saw a player that struggled a ton. Maybe Stoops is doing coach speak...I don' t know.. But my lying eyes saw a left side that was a total fiasco...and Jager was part of it.

Sorry but your comments make it sound like UK lost the game. The game I watched UK won by 24 points. Even with the TD from Brown UK still would have won handily. Don’t forget UK gave up a score with the goal line interception. Stunts combined with a pretty good well coached team made the O line less effective . I believe this line will improve markedly soon. GBBLol. OK. You are one of those people who take a comment and hyperbolize every statement.
