It’s not simply a bad game. It’s a roster full of dudes that won’t even play in the G-League. And our coach was good enough to overcome his roster limitations against Gonzaga and Duke. This team will lose a lot of games in SEC play. Not because they have bad games - but because they’re outmatched.
Yeah, I’m more upset about the effort than the actual loss to be honest. I got bigger things to worry about over the next 4 days like where to hide a bike from a little snooping girl. 😂

They got beat by 20 by a team that may be NIT bound. Shooting has been trending down. The “bigs” are soft and there are some dudes in the SEC that are going to do their best to push them around. Lack of effort in a MSG game is mind blowing.

Yes. It was a bad game and everyone has them. But the issues we saw today will be killing is over the next 18. We have some problems that will not be fixed. I’m all Blue man, love this team and coach. But it’s going to be tough.

Ohio St had 2 games far worse than ours and came out and actually played desperate and hungry. If OSU can turn it around and go from not caring to oh damn we have to play 200% level, then we can too. Might take another couple losses to see that desperation and teach the team they cant coast though.
Don’t have the pieces. But have to do something different with the pieces we have. Williams can’t play more than 10mpg. Neither can Garrison. Have to start Carr at 5 and gang rebound.
We looked tired tonight to me. Down 6 and we bobbled a pass for an easy layup that cuts it to 4 with momentum. They grabbed it and scored.

I’ve seen many teams get humbled early and learn from it. I’m not jumping off the wagon on one game. Refocus. Work on some zone defenses. Understand we’re gonna get bumped and learn to play through it. Get the system down. It’s not going one on one.

Im gonna go out on a limb and say that Coach Pope, his staff and our team use this game as a catapult to shoot us into the second half of the season. We were exposed/embarassed and I don't think that sits well with this group. Sometimes you need a good mid-season ass kicking to re-focus and realize everything can't be magic wanded at halftime every game. This game will make us significantly better in the long run.

Meh. This is a forum to discuss UK basketball. There's not a lot of positives to discuss after a 20 point whooping, so of course the board is going to be overwhelmingly negative. Wins help overlook the negatives. There's been signs of weaknesses in the Duke and Gonzaga games as well against some of the lesser opponents, but they get put to the wayside because the outcomes ended up in our favor.
I had higher expectations than .500 but otherwise I agree with this.
People wrote off this OSU team far too much. While they had some disappointing results in their bigger games, they have enough talent to win games. I think they were top 40 KP even going into the game. If you look at KP, after the top 7 there’s a cluster of about 20-30 teams that are very jumbled and similar. We’re in that group. Going into the game we were near the top of it and after that atrocity we’re closer to the bottom.
I’ll be glad when we get this top 5 ranking off our team. We so obviously aren’t that and that leads to these expectations.
That OSU team had 5 top 50-60 ranked former prospects and a SDSU transfer that averaged like 9PPG there(sounds like someone people say is our best player!). They have enough talent to compete especially when they’re focused after their last performance.
Lack of hustle is the problem. They all were scared of a little bumping. A little pushing and shoving gets the blood pumping.

Losing games, in and of itself, isn’t the problem. Playing with little effort, playing no defense, having no rebounding, and not being able to shoot the ball from the outside are the troubling trends. Those are troubling signs heading into the SEC schedule.
The lack of rebounding effort is the problem, especially from Williams. As big and strong as he is, he should average 10 rebounds a game. The lack of rim protection is a problem. Again Williams should average 2 or 3 blocks a game, yet he doesn't attempt to block shots. Major disappointment.

This kind of thing will happen to every team once in a while I mean honestly how many people expected to beat Gonzaga and Duke if this team can make the NCAA tournament and win a couple of games it is way more than anyone should’ve expected, considering that Cal raped the program. Cal was losing to St Peters and Oakland. Don’t judge Pope for this year. He had basically 3 week to build a roster. Blame Cal for not resigning and moving on rather than taking every player including recruits with him. He was a classless jerk and I couldn’t be happier he is gone.

I'm okay with losing, but losing by 20 to a bad team, because our guys appeared to just be going through the motions, is a bit more difficult to take.
