Global Climate Changes

Warmest year on record in 2024. How were the storms, floods and Fires? Egregious or underwhelming?

I hope trump tackles it. Biden sure didn’t do jack squat.

High winds during fires isn't a new phenomenon for California. Perhaps the sustained high mph is, however, this wouldn't have been near the issue it is were it not for the lack of preparation headed by Newsom and the rest of their liberal ignorant contingent.

i think newsom is a jerk, but it's not his fault for the winds. the lack of air support made it impossible to get planes (let alone copters) to deliver water to the mountains and hills that were burning (places where either fire trucks and pumps couldn't go). this put the eaton canyon fire out of control and now altadena has burned.

palisades fire is where the city water would have matter more.

these guys are always barking up the wrong tree. High winds and drought leads to wildfires. Wildfires are hard to contain

yep, risks with having a high magnitude and density population in a desert. kinda the same issue with building a city below waterline in hurricane territory. I am hoping this is now going to allow LA to be rebuilt properly.

Again, that pesky term “on record”.

“It’s not who votes that counts, it’s who counts the votes.”
174 ish years of record is enough to be very concerned. Couple that, with scientific prognostications continuing to come true annnnnnd…..it’s pretty pretty pretty alarming. That’s my best Larry David.

174 yeas is absolutely nothing when it comes to the age of the earth, especially when scientists know the earth has been too hot for polar ice caps far longer than it’s been cold enough for polar ice caps. In fact, we’re in a relatively cool time when looking at earth’s history. So telling me 2024 was the hottest year on record means very little to me.

And save it with prognostications coming true. Climate alarmists are routinely wrong, exceptionally wrong at times, and just keep pushing their point-of-no-return out to keep the climate change swindle going on.

I honestly hope you don’t believe everything you say, but if you do there’s little hope for you. Better stop using electricity and give up everything made with fossil fuels.

When you can get 99% of all scientists to sign off on that babble, let me know

That's only .22° F higher (55.5 to 55.28) than it was 12 years ago. And only 1.2°F higher than it was 90 years ago in 1934.

Scalding.

It’s the reason for fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, cicadas, blizzards, earthquakes, the popularity of avocados, rising food prices, Covid, the latest Cap America movie, DEI, etc.

We MUST act!!!

Drought was not an issue. Infrastructure is the issue.

A large reservoir in Pacific Palisades that is part of the Los Angeles water supply system was out of use when a ferocious wildfire destroyed thousands of homes and other structures nearby.

Officials told The Times that the Santa Ynez Reservoir had been closed for repairs to its cover, leaving a 117 million gallon water storage complex empty in the heart of the Palisades.

The revelation comes among growing questions about why firefighters ran out of water while battling the blaze. Numerous fire hydrants in higher-elevation streets of the Palisades went dry, leaving firefighters struggling with low water pressure as they combated the flames.

It’s long been established that climate change turbocharges wildfires, with droughts, persistent heat, dried vegetation, and lightning storms all worsening in a warming world and all contributing to out-of-control blazes. That’s just one reason a new report from the European Space Agency’s Copernicus Climate Change Service—a report that landed on Jan. 10, while L.A. still burned—arrived as such bad news. According to the release, 2024 was the first year global mean temperatures exceeded pre-industrial levels by 1.6°C (2.88°F). That blows past the benchmark established by the 2015 Paris Climate Accord, which sought to limit future warming to well below 2°C in the 21st century, with a preferred target no higher than 1.5°C. Doing so would help limit the impact of a hotter planet.

Yes, but unlikely to find many paddock members with his Ivy League resume. Cornell university degree. First job as mechanical engineer for Boeing in Seattle, where he invented a hydraulicresonance suppressor tube used on 747airplanes.

Well, there are “Ivy League” degrees and there are degrees from Cornell. Fine school, but not the high water mark you ascribe.

I am sure Bill’s IQ surpasses my own, but there are many matches for him on this message board. Don’t puff him up more than he does himself. He hosted a kids show.

We don’t have to defer to smart people because they believe their hair is on fire and we can see they are bald.

Let me get my torch and pitchfork and I'll meet you at the end of the street.

I learn new things every day. For example, it can be dry in Mediterranean climates. And, Santa Ana winds blow numerous times a year. When conditions combine both, people who light fires can do great damage. And, finally, it helps to have access to water if you are a firefighter. Things I could have never before imagined.

Did you read where he invented a hydraulic resonance suppressor tube for 747 jets, while working as an engineer for Boeing???

Wow! First, it was big science on the take, and now it seems they have gotten to big Presbyterian.

This pretty much sums up why many turn their back on the climate agenda. As with Dr Clauser, the establishment is trying to silence them, but there are very strong arguments against CO2/manmade climate change that need to be studied. I doubt folks that "just believe that there are smart people who are on google that believe it, so I will believe it" (cough cough, GJ), are capable of actually giving thought to the idea's formed by Dr Clauser, but he isn't the first and definitely isn't the only one who doesn't agree, he just isn't allowed on google or other censored platforms so you actually have to find a different method of research and actually challenge the media/their scientists because it's been proven time and again that the media and many other political platforms or politicians will not tell you otherwise.

Hard for me to get there, when Carbon emissions trap heat beneath. So any carbon released into the atmosphere, will trap heat below it against the Earth. Thus, warming the planet.

What % of the atmosphere is CO2? 400ppm right?
This 400ppm is actually perfect for plant life, we are very, very long way off of it becoming harmful to humans, and there is no real solid scientific proof that CO2 is causing any type of green house impact. As in the linked document, there may be more of an impact due to cloud cover, which can ebb and flow over time, than CO2.

What are the symptoms of different levels of exposure?

5,000 ppm (0.5%) OSHA Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL) and ACGIH Threshold Limit Value (TLV) for 8-hour exposure
10,000 ppm (1.0%) Typically no effects, possible drowsiness
15,000 ppm (1.5%) Mild respiratory stimulation for some people
30,000 ppm (3.0%) Moderate respiratory stimulation, increased heart rate and blood pressure, ACGIH TLV-Short Term
40,000 ppm (4.0%) Immediately Dangerous to Life or Health (IDLH)
50,000 ppm (5.0%) Strong respiratory stimulation, dizziness, confusion, headache, shortness of breath
80,000 ppm (8.0%) Dimmed sight, sweating, tremor, unconsciousness, and possible death

One needs an Ivy League resume to understand that there’s nothing we can do to cut carbon emissions without China and India? Or to understand that a grand focus on climate did nothing to prepare LA for this event and likely made it worse?

Hay cole! had you seen, where da storms had went more extreme with greater temperatures, causing trillions of dollars in damage?

Pardon the grammar, but I wanted you to be able to understand.

Bless your heart. You're truly a blithering moron.

Inflation impacts, population density, incredibly large overhead to from damage to insurance filing to construction is all through the roof which impacts those numbers. The storms aren't getting worse overall. 4 hurricanes this past year is about par for the course. The damage from the hurricane itself was less than expected. And before any "believers" try to pull NC out of their hat when it comes to damage, make sure to look back at the root cause of those rains. It was NOT the hurricane itself that resulted in the damage, it was a front that it tied to that fed it all the moisture which resulted in the damage in NC. Much like the wildfires raging in California. If there were precautions taken to limit the underbrush, it was have been much less, if any damage. If you don't maintain, this is the risk and it's been called out many times historically.

When Clauser gets a children’s tv show, we may listen.
