Glad to hear Cal get on refs tonite..

Wasn't it a few weeks ago, Cal called out the officiating? Remember, he said we would have to go back to football pads, because the refs weren't calling anything like they were supposed to. Fast forward a few weeks later, now refs are calling everything on us. Coincidence? I seriously doubt it.

It's certainly not a coincidence, and I'm fine with that. This issue needs airtime - exposure is the only thing that is going to fix it. So if it takes us getting intentionally hosed for a season in order to shine a spotlight on the issue, I'm all for it. Bring it on stripes. The more screwups you make on purpose, the less anyone will trust you and the sooner we can get some accountability slapped on you. Bring it.

Whine!

We have discussed and discussed and discussed and cried and kicked and screamed about refs and this perceived super bias against Kentucky by the dark dank underworld of officiating.

And you think Cal saying it don't matter because you have to win anyway merits another whiney thread.

Then you stick your nose into an answer to a question you didn't ask and start crying about it.

The one poster gave you good advice. If you are too sensitive to read what I post, take it.
I wish we could give a thumbs down to negative posts.. Kybass would lead the board with them!

I would need more evidence than 4 negative posts in one thread to conclude that he leads the whole board in negative posts.

I've been accused of negative posting when I don't agree with dark referee conspiracy, the NCAA is out to get us conspiracy, the Cal's a bad coach conspiracy, etc. On those counts I'm dead guilty. I challenge those points of view. In some eyes, that makes me negative.

I've never been one to join the frat or go along with the majority (majority on this board, face to face, the only folks I've found that ever admit to buying into that garbage are pretty rare and a little strange.)

bkr5 is water off a ducks back and completely irrelevant so far as I'm concerned.

The refs are NOT why we are losing. We foul way too much, make stupid decisions, run the shot clock too low, then heave a brick of a three, Got no offensive inside scoring threat, miss too many of what few foul shots we get, our defense can NOT stop penetration. Refs are just not the problem.

Refs are not the problem?

We've seen a number of statistics. However, the question is are those fouls legit. I have to agree with Kyfan, we foul a lot. If we're committing the foul, its not the refs fault.

Kybassfan I have a question for you and I know we have had our back and forth over this. You and I have differing opinions. I agree we foul more than our other teams in the past. My question is this during the 2nd half of the Kansas game, Kansas was sent to the foul line almost every trip and the first 13 minutes we of the Tennessee game we played nearly foul free then all of a sudden every trip down was a foul. (If I have blue goggles on just say so haha). Did we forget how to play defense that quickly or was it just officials being inconsistent? I lean to the latter. I feel teams get to be slightly more physical with us than we get to be with them causing frustration and getting into our players heads which I admit you must play through.

I've actually posted several times that I do not believe that these huge foul mismatches are not the result of any bias toward KY or even that much home cooking. That said, I've also stated a belief that the refs are not calling the game consistently throughout the game. This is damn hard on the players. Couple that with the bad habits of reaching and swiping with our bigs and you have a stage for the foul situation to change dramatically. If the other team defends with better footwork or adapts quicker, then they will not notice the inconsistency. Ironically, if you develop those habits, such as defending the shot straight up rather than leaning or reaching, you can get away with more contact. Been that way for years.

What I find frustrating in all of college basketball is when they announce they will honor the freedom of movement. They do it until about December and then they quit enforcing it. I wish they would go back to where athleticism is showcased. Ultimately I wish they would call it consistently which ever they way they want to call it. Just call it consistent from the first minute to the last.

Or don't enforce it in the first half and enforce in the second.

100% agree. Technically as a player you should be able to adjust and adapt but it's hard to when one minute the way you guard is perfectly fine and then next trip it's a foul. It messes with your head cause you literally have no clue what constitutes a foul.

Yes. And we've got some guys with bad habits. So when the refs change, they get called and the other team doesn't. Makes it look one sided.

Still, the refs could stand to improve consistency. We could stand to improve our defensive technique.
