Gilmore coming back....?

Was the WR coach more liked than we thought by the players? Was Stoops hamstringing him or something? Or was Hamden the reason he left? He just took two of our receivers with him.

The problem with losing Gilmore is that Gilmore has 3 more years of eligibility. Gilmore is not a unique talent, but he has a lot of upside and 3 more years of development time. Coach Stoops can bring in a transfer like maybe Tru Edwards who could do the same things Gilmore could do in 2025. But Tru Edwards has just one more year of eligibility whereas Gilmore has 3 more. That's the problem. If Dejerrian Miller is as good as I think he is, maybe Gilmore's transfer won't be as damaging as it looks now. But there is something dark and uncomfortable about Shorts taking Key and Gilmore to Nebraska. In Gilmore's case, at least, it sure as hell looks like there has been tampering.

Now, though, L'Damian Washington has to rebuild his room. Maclin and Farrier are coming back. I don't know enough about Hester to be confident, but Law is a high upside addition with great speed. David Washington can really run too. Dejerrian and Cam Miller are good enough to contribute early. But Hamdan needs a couple more. Edwards would be a good start, but they need to pick up more athletic outside receivers with multiple years of eligibility who can be developed over time with our young QBs.

I do not subscribe to the narrative that there is no appeal to UK. That is shortsighted. Key and Gilmore followed Shorts. Along with BB, those guys had a bad taste left in their mouths from Vandagriff's failed year. UK's OL was awful in 2024 and that was a nonstarter. Vandagriff was new to the offense and couldn't make the adjustments. Stoops already has 4 OL transfers coming in now, but there will be a 5th one before the summer. A true LT will be added. If the OL plays well, the offense can be productive.

And as I said on another thread, the BBN is huge and worldwide. So there is no rational reason Stoops can't bank plenty of NIL $$. Right now, everyone in the know says UK has plenty.

I think our issue with haveing "plenty" of NIL money is that we have to spread it around to more players to fill more spots. Schools like Bama aren't looking to replace an entire OL or Defensive line. We have positions of need all over the field and need multiple players at those positions, we can't afford to push the bulk of the NIL $$ onto a handful of players.

Imo the issue is that every position now needs an nil investment. Even the ul punter sat out the bowl game due to nil issue.

Thats alot of money that has to go around and we just don't have it.

“Freshman wide receiver Hardley Gilmore, who entered the transfer portal over the weekend and reportedly will transfer to Nebraska, was charged on Dec. 7 with misdemeanor assault after allegedly punching someone in the face at a storage unit in downtown Lexington.”

This. His exit was not a surprise. It was forced. Unfortunate as it is, it was not Gilmore just leaving at the last second because he wanted out here.

This. Jmo but Nebraska needed more wrs and threw the bag at him like they did dane.

The b10 is spending some insane money. I thought the difference wouldn't show till next few years but i was wrong. However unless the sec juggernauts start spending, starting next year you will see the gap widen between them and everyone else.

Hopefully someone does something to bring some sanity to the situation. Otherwise some of these b10 teams are going to have payroll higher than nfl teams.
