Hardley Gilmore is back

Sh*tfire, y'all. Don't expect me back much over here till Stoops is gone. Coach has completely lost the plot. Was this kid a locker room cancer or not? If so, why TF would we take him back? Why re-hire Wolf? So many head scratching decisions.

I'll still root for em and chime in on this board, but damn.

Edit: I know that breaks your hearts 😂

Addition by subtraction and then addition again.

I know he's a talented prospect but... if the theme of the offseason was "culture change" do we want a guy who left us and promptly got kicked off his new team?

I can't remember... did he actually leave on bad terms? If not, maybe that's why there was some grace offered to him even in light of his being kicked off Nebraska.

Regardless, if I were coach, the terms for his return would require that he be the BEST teammate in the locker room, and his leash would be VERY SHORT.

Hopefully, the events in his life over the last 6 months have given him a really good perspective & matured him, and he comes in as the hardest working, best player and team mate he can be.

Did NOT see that happening. I guess he left on pretty good terms, if that's possible? We can certainly use a talented WR like him, but, as others have said, I wouldn't put up with any nonsense. Come in, work hard, earn PT, play hard - then all can be forgiven. Miss assignments, pout, badmouth the staff/QB, etc. and I'm sending his butt out the door forthwith (been watching Blue Bloods recently, obviously).

I don't recall anyone saying he was a distraction. he looked for more PT and followed his original position coach along with Key. I think in the WR room, it was probably more Key and Brown who were causing the headaches. I can't think Stoops ran Gilmore off if he was willing to take him back.

He went into the portal like the last day he could. He fought someone at a storage unit around that time. He is like 18 hopefully he can mature some. I remember being 18 and making some dumb decisions.

I’m good with it as long as he blocks and doesn’t take plays off, been a problem with a couple of guys recently which kinda shows the attitude and lack of leadership.

Under the circumstances we probably got a talented player at a bargain price. I won't pass judgement on Gilmore not knowing any of the circumstances around his previous departure and now return however, I would assume Stoops has put him on a short leash. Young people make mistakes, if he has learned his lessons and wants to be serious about making the most out of his God-given talent then I'm OK with it, I mean at this point what do we have to lose?

I assume he dropped out of UK to transfer. Was he able to get into Spring classes to maintain eligibility?

Don't mean to be disrespectful but I doubt very many will miss your unforgiving attitude. We don't know any thing about a 17 year old, and his inmatureness, or his background. We all learn from our mistakes through life's journeys. I can only imaging what the public would have thought of me at that age if I had been as talented as he. At 18 now maybe he just needs guidance. I'm sure there are guidelines he must follow or they wouldn't have let him come back. I pray everything stays positive in the future.

Seems like academics are the lowest priority when it comes to the new free agency of college sports...it was all we could do to keep our son at the same school for four years with all the administrative bullshit they put us through. Cannot imagine doing all this nil/tp crap while trying to gain an education.

My unforgiving attitude? I was defending Jeremy Flax when the board was calling for his head and I was a Stoops loyalist until last year's results. I've always been a proponent of second chances, but Stoops' judgement on those as of late has been severely lacking. Don't presume to tell me that I'm unforgiving. 😂

My understanding is
Not with just this kid, but how are these kids that transfer multiple times able to stay eligible?
the internet is a wonderful thing. The majority of todays players take a bunch of online classes.

Dont know if he was a locker room problem but clearly had some on the field discipline and maturity issues I'd like to see get cleaned up. Focused and disciplined players just make for a better team than guys that act out and mouth off, plain and simple.

That said the kid has plenty of talent and I'm rooting for him to pull it all together and show out.

I am too. Just hard to accept Stoops' judgement anymore. The potential is undeniable, but the maturity isn't. People grow and change, so we'll see how it goes down.

Weird occurrence, I suppose the need for a WR outweighed the issues the kid has seemingly had. Hope that's left in the past and he contributes.

I can't understand this line of thinking. Why would your judgement be better that Stoops when he actually knows the players and you don't. You think public perception gives a better insight into the situation than actually knowing the person?

We look to potentially have some good WR to throw too. My concern is QB and consistency.

I can't understand this line of thinking. Why wouldn't anyone judge Stoops' decision-making? You'd think because he's paid $9 million a year in his 12th season as a head coach in the SEC that he would have better insight.

😃

QB and OLine. It looks like we upgraded the line this off-season, but will they give the QB time to throw is the question. Effort like we've had the past two seasons won't cut it.

Surprisingly, I think QB will be okay. Not terrible, but not the best in the league.

I think he would have a better insight than you. You don't personally know anything about any player.

I would be interested in seeing a link where it was reported he was a locker room problem at UK. They did not want him to leave and were happy to have him back. All I have seen is internet knuckleheads repeating that mantra, but it's never been substantiated by anyone with a modicum of credibility. And if you can't now see why he rehired Wolf, then you are obviously a basketball only fan or willfully ignorant of the masterful job Wolf has done at recruiting an entirely new offensive line. I get being disappointed in last season. It was awful and Stoops knows it, but it is absurd to think he's a bad coach and should be fired given his long track record of producing results exponentially higher than UK's historical avg. He has earned a turnaround chance.
