Getting really tired of this

There are 2 schools of thought here, we can either be extremely nasty to the refs and SEC but that wont help us, they have the power and can rape us even harder every game after.

OR Mitch Barnhart and boosters can stop being pansies and pay the SEC and refs . If they are on the take, we are UK and we care more than any other SEC team about basketball, even if the refs didnt like Pope or UK before, the all mighty fat stacks of green is one hell of an ice breaker. I freaking hate Elon Musk but if he wanted to give me 100K a year, I'd call him my buddy old pal.

Or…..you pay the money to a couple 6’8” 300lb goons to sit on your bench and only enter games to make “basketball plays” when necessary. Why not?

Need to figure out how to use AI for officiating. If AI can drive a car across the country, it can learn how to call a foul.

Settings would be the same for both teams, and the players and coaches would adjust accordingly.

Give each coach 2 challenge flags a game for when something glitches.

This will never happen, because Vegas would never accept the possibility of completely fair contests. But it would be nice to put these clowns out to pasture.

At least the SEC season is over for us. Now we can hopefully watch some real basketball. I wonder how this final weekend of the SEC tourney will be officiated now that we're out?

I can tell you right now based on a conversation I had with someone who works in the SEC offices a couple of years ago at dinner hosted by the president of my firm…the SEC does not give two shits about Kentucky Basketball. At least not anymore. They would rather see the Florida’s and Auburn’s and Tennessee’s be on top year after year because that builds the “ SEC Brand”. The SEC tournament is basically subsidized by ESPN now per this gentleman and they don’t care if Kentucky fans shows up either. Now the city of Nashville would beg to differ but the conversation I had just confirmed what I already suspected.

What you’re seeing now is the culmination of ten years and hundreds of millions of dollars in investment in basketball directed by the SEC. We either have to adapt or else.

Honestly we should have gone to the ACC when we were approached in the late 70’s but was shot down by those folks who were making decisions back then.

It's working out fairly well for baseball so far. The AI can even overrule an Ump. They are going to introduce the tech to the major league this year so that will tell the full tale.

Why do you think the SEC should care about UK basketball over any other SEC school. I think the SEC would rather have other schools become good is a logical concern of any conference commissioner. Look at this year with ten plus teams being really good has strengthened the SEC brand. I don't really think the SEC wants anything but good for our basketball program. I believe they want all the schools to be good. In the past it has been Kentucky carrying the SEC banner in basketball. I can see the logic in wanting all schools being good vs just having Kentucky. There is no way they are telling refs to screw UK and because of NIL in a conference with most schools having deep pockets, it has dispersed talent to all schools. We now are in a bidding war each year to keep our current players and to recruit new kids. We can't now or ever out bid every school every year for talent.

I’m not saying any of that.

What I am saying is that, based on this conversation I had three years ago, the SEC would not lose any sleep if Kentucky became a middling program like IU and the whole point is to build the SEC as a basketball brand and make money.

Isn’t it crazy how how much oxygen gets taken up by officiating?

Refs making bad calls. Coaches screaming at refs. Refs showboating. Refs going to the monitor.

There’s a world where all of that is unnecessary. We used to manage on the playground without refs pretty well.

I was thinking maybe you still need a ref to separate players in fights, but not really. Coaches need to control their teams. AI can still call techs if you’re doing anything extracurricular.

Most of us manage to walk down the street and around our offices without smacking and grabbing each other. Why can’t it be done on a basketball court? And you can always have security nearby if things actually get out of hand.

This also makes sense when you consider the cold shoulder we get from ESPN. They don’t treat us like the Yankees or Cowboys. They kind of go out of their way to not hype us.

We may have the biggest, most passionate fanbase in the sport, but the marketers at ESPN, in collusion with our own league, have little interest in expanding our footprint.

They take us for granted at best. They’re antagonistic at worst.

I don't think the Oweh play where he bloodied his mouth was intentional by Bama player nor deserved to be upgraded from the call on the floor...which was a foul on Oweh.

But for that play to not even warrant a monitor review was way wrong......Secondly, for the endless monitor reviews for elbows/hook and holds on random plays that go on all year.....makes no sense on both ways. And for Doug Shows to be the point man for prissing his self centered ass to the monitor all year to be on that officiating team and not call for the review.....simply astounding.

That monitor review needs to be gone the millisecond 2025 ends...and Mitch might want to do all he can as AD to get that done.

John Chaney from Temple did this years ago. He sent in a big boy that never played to take care of business and he broke the guys arm.

They've never liked us in any sport. Doesn't mean I think we should be part of a dying league like the ACC...but the SEC absolutely ****s us over every chance they get and they can all choke as far as I'm concerned.

As if Mitch is going to be proactive and have any balls about anything.

Here's my definition of Mitch's personality. Corporate.

I hate the new SEC structure anyway, Texas, A& M and especially Oklahoma being in the conference is ridiculous, region and tradition lost. The old SEC, ACC, Big 10, Big 12, PAC 10 structure made sense. Now it’s a mess.

Agree completely, but we can't just give up. Have to do better than we're doing in both basketball and football right now. And that's on Mitch to figure out, but he's a complete idiot.

I agree with your statement that the SEC would not lose any sleep if we were a middling program. That is true, if Ole Miss, Vandy, OK, and Missouri were great teams competing for championships. They could care less if it is Bama, Auburn, FL, or TN. The SEC wants parity with every school being really good. I do not think they want one team dominating the conference going forward. That is what I was trying to say in my first post. I just did a poor job of explaining. Thanks for your very accurate summary.

I think the refs turned up the heat on UK basketball after the juvenile move by KSR to unleash his sycophants upon the “Rooferee”.
