Most of their shots are bad misses that are long caroms. Still, should be rebounding better than we are considering the height advantage. However, rebounding is also mostly effort.

SC's shot attempts are mostly heaves and throws because they can't get a regular shot off without a block. Who know where those things will end up.

Rebounding is about 75% effort and 25% instinct. Knowing where the ball will be or should go after a missed shot. Still, you must box out your man. That's all effort.

Ulis and Aaron had some boards off the long misses. SC is a terrible shooting team and provides plenty of opportunities for rebounds but yeah we could have rebounded better.

No, it just means we didn't rebound well defensively today. It wasn't that SC had more "opportunities".

SC is also a decent offensive rebounding team tho. They rank 51st in rebounding percentage.

We ranked 260th in defensive rebounding %


So it was predictable.

You also have to take into account that a lot of our big men are going for the block. So, you get a help defender going for the block. That often leaves someone open to get a rebound because we aren't boxing out. There is a give and a take with that because we want to get the block, but we'll often miss out on the rebounds. Would like to see it get better on the rebounding, but I don't know that it will considering our strategy is to box out less and go for the block more.

The main reason he didn't play but 12 minutes today. It is baffling how easily he gives up inside position and gets blocked out for rebounds. He's great on blocking shots, however he struggles to regain position once the ball goes up. It's becoming a big problem between he and Cal. He has the athletic ability, he just needs to work on his strength and positioning. He gave up too easily on rebounds he could have fought for today.

I remember how awkward Willie was as a freshman getting into position and fighting through the opponent to get rebounds. Karl is doing the same.
