The hire of UK's new WR Coach Daikiel Shorts has been finalized. This is an important move for Liam Coen, whose receivers have underachieved this season. The role of a position coach is to recruit talent and develop it. On first blush, Coach Shorts looks like a nice upgrade for us.

Coach Shorts is relocating from the Univ. of Houston, where head coach Dana Holgorsen was recently fired. It has been reported that new UH head coach Willie Fritz tried to retain Coach Shorts. Our new WR coach has a reputation for outstanding interpersonal skills. He is 29 years old.

Coach Shorts was born in Clayton, NJ. He attended Red Lion Christian Academy in Bear, DE and Eastern Christian hs in Elkton, MD. Although lightly recruited, he became UWV's leading receiver in three of his four seasons there. In 2016, he was elected team captain and was named to the all Big 12 second team. He is the 5th-leading career receiver in UWV foorball history. He then spent 2017 on the Buffalo Bills' practice squad.

Coach Shorts was on UH's staff for three seasons. Under Coach Shorts, UH WR Nathaniel Dell was named an All American after leading the nation in pass receptions in 2022. Three of his UH WRs were named all Big 12. During Coach Shorts' three seasons as UH WR coach, UH ranked 5th nationally in receiving TDs, 12th in pass receptions, and 16th in receiving yardage.

This looks like a solid hire, young guy just cutting his chops. What kind of recruiter and what area he recruits will be key.
