Former 5 Star UNC DT Keeshawn Silver just COMMITTED to the Cats!!!!

Overall net positive result. Walker slides to his natural position at nose and now we have more talent at DT.
I will wait on that prediction. Immediately, having Rogers back is the more positive path for the defense. Rogers is light years ahead of this guy. But, Silver for the next few years is a good get. It’s just not immediate gold. (Sorry, truly)

Rogers wasn't exactly all world either. He was at best the 3rd best DL guy we had this season. Walker was much more effective. And when Ox is playing at or above 300 pounds, he too is more effective. And Rogers never came close to equaling McCall's presence when he was here. I would rather we have kept Rogers, but losing him isn't a disaster. He played okay but wasn't great. I predict the DL won't miss a beat without him.
Statistically, Rogers was the 2nd best DL on the team in ‘22. Walker was by far the best. I don’t know Rogers’ thought process. I suspect he knows that Walker will start in 2022 at NG and maybe he does not feel as confident about DT? If Ox regains good weight. We may have some movable parts next year that could cause OL’s heartburn. Having Rogers back would make us that much better. But, he has made his choice.

Silver's evaluation is pretty good. Said he has a suddeness and quickness off the ball and point of attack. Very athletic and runs really well for his size and a long wingspan. Uses hands well and has the look of possibly an edge type defender, for us that would be a DE possibility with the way he can move. High first round and long term NFL potential.
Like I said, that was his eval before an injury....that he was slow to recover from, put on a lot of bad weight, and moved inside to DT

My prediction definitely isn't a certainty and is contingent on walker going to nose. That's for sure. However it isn't a straight comparison of Rogers and silver. Rogers is clearly the better player at the moment. However Rogers wouldn't give up nose when his much better position would be dt.

With this scenario, walker should finally be free to move inside and be dominant while we add talented depth at DT. If walker doesn't go to nose, I will be shocked.

Seems worth bringing him on with a plan to help him realize his potential, and it cannot hurt building a bridge into the UNC program. Brown recruits talented kids. Some will prove impatient or just in need of a change of scenery. If Silver shines, his former teammates will notice. This reality is perhaps the most overlooked sinister aspect of the new CFB reality. Transfer pipelines fostered by a series of "A to B" transfers. Talk about bad blood potential.

I wonder if Silver's best weight is 315. If he slims down to 295-305 and plays DT, he might be a load there. Seems like 315 is a bit heavy for any position on the DL other than NG. But, Ox needs to put on 10+ lbs and, if he does so, we should have good depth at DT and NG this coming year. DE has several candidates after Rybka, the presumed starter, so not as worried there.

UNC folks say Silver got hurt then never worked hard enough to get back in shape to play

Hopefully the change in scenery can unlock the potential he had coming out of HS
I heard today that UNC has some assistant coaches that don't jive with alot of players.

Comparing Silvers high school and college physiques, definitely doesnt look like he added good weight in the last couple years. He looked college ready in high school and what you would expect out of a 5-star, but what little I have been able to find of him in college he didnt do much on the field. Hopefully bad weight and a poor attitude that can be corrected were the issue.

McCall had 57 tackles in 4 years with 10.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks . Rogers had 60 tackles with 5 tackles for loss and 3 sacks in 3 years. McCall's PFF was 65.2 his senior year. Rogers this past year was 71.3, one of the best in the SEC according to Rowland. Not saying he's some kinda monster that's irreplaceable, but stats are stats.
Thanks for digging that up. I’ve never gotten why a few minimize Rogers.
