For those living outside the great state of Kentucky

Born in Murray and lived in KY and IL until I moved to Atlanta after college. Been in ATL since 91 and have ALWAYS been a Cats fan.
I have a couple of questions for those that don't currently live in Kentucky:

1. Have you ever lived here?
2. If not, how did you become a Wildcat fan?

Just curious because we seem to have fans from all over the US and in other countries.

Lived in Southeastern Kentucky until I went to Eastern to attend college. I have lived in Cincinnati for about 40 years. After college I lived in Lexington, Houston, Austin then transferred to Cincinnati to get closer to my home. Been here ever since, but I'm still a Kentuckian. If Kentucky went to war against someone, I'd be the first one to sign up to fight. You can take the boy out of Kentucky, but you can't take Kentucky out of the boy. I became a UK fan at age 6 when I was a young boy growing up in Kentucky. UK is the only team I follow in basketball and I love our teams and our coach. One Note: I live about 30 miles from Cincinnati in New Richmond, Ohio. Still like to be in the country when I come home from work. Almost forgot to mention I'm 61 and still partying and drinking Bud.

I am born and raised in Ocala Florida, horse capital of the world depending on who you ask (didn't know that until I was a man). Ocala is about 45 minutes outside of Gainesville so highschool from 2005-2009 was unbearable.

I've never lived in Kentucky but many of my family members do. I am blessed with the best father in the world who was born and raised in Irvine Kentucky but moved with the family to Florida just outside of Gainesville when he was 16. We go to a game once every few years. His goal is to move back shortly after he retires in a few years. MY goal, by then, is to get him season tickets somehow if he does move back (if there are even any available with out fanbase).

I've always loved UK from the time I watched my first games in the Pitino era. Started following it more closely when BCG took over and took over my dads posting as Catzman here. Live in Tampa now. Less Gator fans, and a very surprising number of UK fans everywhere I look. I should probably get out into the community and find where they all congregate for games.

Born in Wisconsin grew up in Paducah. Went to college in Tenn, grad school in Indiana, Louisville for second masters, then off to Pa where I settled. Became a UK fan during college from having obnoxious Hoosier roommate. When we beat them in 75, it shut him up!

Born and raised in Central Ky. Graduated from UK in ‘00 then moved away to try out different areas of the country. I’ll most likely never move away from a coast now. Helps that my current home has a UK bar.

My grandparents attended UK. My parents attended UK. My brother attended UK. Half of my cousins went to UK.

My parents were born and raised in Mercer county , dad went to UK for a year , joined the US Army Air Corp , later the USAF , retired in 1968 . Dad was an avid Kentucky fan , my twin brother and myself (birthplace Honolulu) grew up as Kentucky fans . Every summer while growing up in Mobile , Charleston and Charlotte , we would spend 2 weeks vacationing in Kentucky visiting relatives , Dad passed away in 2008

Born and raised is Owensboro, lived south of Atlanta for a year , moved back to Ky for five, now currently living in Brunswick Ga ,but Owensboro is still home.

I live outside of Athens ga now but lived in Lexington.

I went to Highschool in Lexington and then UK.

I grew up in Louisville and my parents were divorced but grew up a UK fan bc my Dad went to school there and would take us to games when I was young.

Most kids were UL fans in my classes. One year Allen Houston was in my class and I brought the words to UK fight song for show and tell and the teacher let me sing it... Allen laughed

Born and raised in the state of Tenn. I have an engineering degree from U.K. U.K. basketball fan since 1948. My room mate and I sat on the mid-court line lover level for all the Cats games in Memorial. Back then students got in for free. Paid an activity fee with student registration. Went in the front door, took a right hand turn up a ramp turned left found out seats. First come got the best seats. We were always early. Those were the gook old days. Go Big Blue.

We have a few things in common. My daughter lives in Ocala and rides horses. My wife is from Irvine, KY

I'm always interested in hearing about people being Kentucky fans that didn't grow up in the state or have much of a connection. That's pretty cool because we're often hated by many so I like to hear about people choosing to be a fan as opposed to being born into it.

Luckily, I'm back in the state now but when I was away, come March, all it took was to hear that My Old Kentucky Home being sung (prefer the Happy Chandler version) and I'd get goosebumps and overcome with love for our state. It's a special place and I'm proud of it and proud of our tradition.

I was born and raised in cat country but now I live in Humboldt County, California. Only once, maybe twice a year do I see kentucky apparel. I always talk to that person. And never have they had a story. They always look at me like I’m crazy. It’s obvious they’re not fans and are just wearing the shirt cause it’s ‘trendy’ or whatever. Everybody here supports Oregon or Cal. But basketball is about the 6th most popular sport in these parts so I’m usually the only person watching games at the bar. Example: For the 2015 Final Four Saturday (Big Day, if y’all remember) I had to fight with the casino boss to keep basketball on instead of the SF Giants last spring training game on all 10 TVs. NOBODY cared that basketball was coming on. He agreed to keep one on for me. Smh. The Warriors barely get any love... Hippie Country is strange

I have never lived in Kentucky. My parents are from Kentucky and my dad raised me to be a Wildcat fan. After college I looked at moving to Lexington but I just could not make the move back north. My girlfriend and I have a great life here in Tampa and I don't see us moving to Kentucky anytime soon, but we do go to 1 game at Rupp each year and we also fly to one of the neutral site games. Plus we go to the Derby every year.

Live in Dallas Texas but spent my first 22 years in Lexington. Garden Springs, Beaumont, Dunbar, Miami of Ohio, University of Kentucky. Now 22 years in northern suburbs of Dallas.

Born in Kentucky and lived there until I graduated college then moved to California.
Living outside of Kentucky has given me a different perspective on other teams and fan bases that are out there whereas when I lived in the Bluegrass, it's UK and UK only. Everybody else sucks and you're going to hell for not liking the Cats.

Born and raised in Eastern KY. Went to UK.

After commissioning in the Marines I've bounced around between VA, FL, TX, and reside in NC now when I'm not out and about in the world.

I miss Lexington but unless I end up with a KY girl I doubt I'll end up moving back since the fam lives in FL now and I don't see my current or future job taking me back

1. Have never lived in KY. Born and raised in Flint, Mi. Live in Davison, Mi now. Parents moved to MI from Hazard in ‘68 to Work at GM.

2. Saw how much my dad enjoyed UK sports and wanted in around age 6. Diehard ever since.

My wife is from the Hazard area also, she had uncles that also moved to Michigan for the same career choice. Must of been a popular choice.

I have been reading this forum for years, but only have replied to a couple of threads. But I found this one to be particularly interesting. It was awesome to read all of the people who responded and their stories. I was born and raised in MN. I consider myself your official unofficial ambassador to UK basketball up here in the frozen north.I am 39 years old and have been a UK fan for 25 years plus. I cant really pinpoint the exact moment I became a fan, but it has something to do with hating dUKe! Everywhere I go I wear my blue loud and proud, and that often times gets people asking me why i'm a fan, and sometimes it gets a little uglier (people talking crap or wanting to pick fights). I do my best to represent BBN.

To be honest I had never even been to Kentucky before a couple months ago. My wife bought me tickets to a game at Rupp in late Feb. It was an absolute joy to visit the great state of Kentucky!

So here's to the greatest team in the world and most honest and die hard fans in college sports.

P.s. I am also a huge horse racing fan, so the trip to Kentucky was sort of a pilgrimage for me!

Had an experience similar to that in Santa Clara in 2015 like the day of or after the Notre Dame game and saw a guy with a UK flat bill. Figured you'd have to be a UK fan/Kentuckian to wear that. Nope. Just thought it was cool.

I was taken across the state line to be born in Murray, KY but I’ve always lived in TN. Earliest memories of liking UK was around 1995 when I was 7. As for why I have no idea. My family are UT fans so I don’t know why I gravitated towards UK.
