You know what a 100,000 seat stadium gets you that a 60,000 seat stadium doesn;t get you? $$$$$$$$$. You know what 40,000 additional season ticket holders do for your athletic budget? $$$$$$$$$. You know what $$$$$$$$$ does for you recruiting program in the age of NIL? ***** and ***** and ***** and ***** and ***** and ***** and ****. and **** and **** unfortunatley we all understand $$$$$$$$$. And when you get a lot of those stars you don't have to develop - you only have to scheme! Heupel has proven he can scheme! He is not Butch Jones or Jeremy Pruitt. Since $$$$$$$$$ to players is now legal - Tennessee will soon be back at the top.

Go Big Blue!

Their class is still half 3-stars, that typically puts you behind the elite schools and in the group of 5 or 6 other SEC schools that are in the discussion for 3rd best team in the league. Outside of the $8 million for the QB their class isnt drastically different than what they have been bringing in for most of the last decade.

They are not going to be back at the top. They may start competing for SEC East titles at some point, but do not see them ever getting back to the "glory days" of the early to late 90s. Their one title in that timeframe was one of the luckiest I have ever seen (Arkansas choke job still resonates today and getting to play FSU with a 3rd string QB, etc) and Peyton could not even beat FL once during his tenure.

Before the 90s, their successful years as far as titles was pretty much around the same time as UK and Rupp in basketball. I do see they claimed a dubious title in 1967 that has no merit (must be taking pointers from Tuscaloosa!).

Pay to win, this next version of College football is the NFL without salary caps.
Honestly everything from this point I will look at differently.
They may win, they may do the same and self implode yet again. One thing is for sure, it is not easy handling egos and developing all this talent and if they have one bad year where a guy does not get playing time the transfer portal will eat them alive.
This offense is electric but also feels a bit gimmicky, and your Defense is led to slaughter when you happen to go 3 and out super quick on more than a few drives.
We will see, but we have to be honest we are not where they are as far as fans/following and from what it looks like the money they are willing to throw at winning. I still believe we can get there, and we have the right guy at the helm to get us there.
But I enjoy every year TN does not win a championship, I honestly do not care how close they come as long as they come up short. The closer the better sometimes because I get to watch these fans (I live here) cry like babies, and believe me they do.

I hope you are correct - I just want UK to start winning at least 60% of our games with them in football. Get so tired of hearing from my family in Tennessee how they beat us every year. We have become very competitive with them at last -don't want to see them pull away from us again! We have to get a handle on how to recruit with the new NIL set up - when we do that - I think we will continue to be very, very competitive with our current coaching staff and the players who love Big Blue like we do!

Go Big Blue!

In all fairness they have pulled some big name recruits. But the biggest part of their class is not big name kids. But some things coming out about the QB they bought, he apparently isn't with his HS team and they don't know where he is, he skipped Elite 11 to play volleyball. Of course Vols are blowing it off as nothing.

Spending $280M to upgrade the Garbage Dump once called Neyland. Original plan was to include cans of Febreze handed out each game to mask the odor of decades old urine smells but that was cancelled when they figured out they'd just be thrown on the field. So their tradition and stench will continue.

QB looks like Snoop hopefully minus the meth.

That's the flip side to getting kids solely because you're paying them. Theyll be mercenaries

UT has something that we don't have yet.......tradition and winning history. I know the past 10-14 yrs they've sucked but before that they had a respected winning tradition.

Tennessee claims six national championships and 16 conference titles. The Volunteers represented the East in the SEC Championship three times and won twice. Tennessee also ranks fourth in college football history in bowl game appearances (51) and fifth in bowl wins (27).

Until we start beating them more than twice in 10 yrs and win the SEC East, they are going to out recruit us. We don't have the pedigree they have no matter how much we hate to admit it.

UK plays in the SEC, most teams are capable of winning....or losing any given game. I'm not sweating what TN or SCAR or GA or UF does in their recruiting. Stoops has a plan, tweak it here and there and it'll pay off. You're forgetting the "experts" love to over rate TN's classes. Makes for happy subscribers.

Ut typically finished 10-15 the last 6 or 7 classes.

I doubt they will exceed that by much this year>

Looking at the class they have, they are definitely going to start dropping as others start getting commitments. They are propped up by volume more than quality at the moment.

Essentially, unless they pull a couple more 5* and nothing but 4*s, they are looking at the same 11 to 18 ranking. Bama, USC, Oregon, A&M, Miami, Florida, OU all very well could jump them. And that's not even considering the Georgia, LSU, and Penn State who are right on there heels with less commitments.

Never mind the fact that they have 2 near stone cold lock losses on the schedule every year in UGA and Bama for the foreseeable future. Development. Maximizing the offensive scheme (gotta stay on the field a little bit longer). Bolstering the defense.

This has been there year for like 25 in a row now.

That program pumps in a metric ton of money. They have amazing facilities for the players and a very passionate (annoying) fanbase. So, even without the cheating that they regularly do, they recruit quite well. That has never been their issue. Their issue has been horrible coaching that cannot make the most out of their talent. That is especially true of the quarterback position.

I still have to be convinced that Heupel is a good SEC coach. The offense he runs is different and caught a lot of teams (UK, for one) off guard. With a whole year's worth of film to study, we may see the SEC defenses catching up. With as bad as their defense was last year, if you hold the offense to <35 points, you have a helluva chance of winning the game. We'll see this year if Heupel is for real or if being new helped them last year.

That said, they are landing a darn good class. With the new NIL rules, who knows how many of those players end up playing more than a year or two at UT. Especially if they struggle to be > .500, which is possible. Also, we need to beat their a$$es more often than we do and we'll surpass them for good.

I like your style but they can't take the truth or face reality. As we all know, nothing sucks like the big orange.

Blueaz how much did they develop that group that beat us last year in Lexington? Thats all the development they needed. I truly believe UK does as good a job of developing under Stoops as any team/coaching staff in the country. That is the reason we are were we are today. However, talent will win most battles - thats nothing but proven time and time again. Why did Secretariat beat Sham in the triple crown? Because he was bigger, stronger and faster! He didn't have the best jockey! Sham was a hell of a horse! Physical advantages pay off in the long run if most things are even close to even.

Saban wins at Alabama - why - because he has the best talent and depth - consistently! He's a good coach - but he loses his share when the other teams have equal talent. Clemson and Georgia have shown this to be true. It applies in all sports.

Go Big Blue!

That qb better be the real deal

What other qb would think there will be a fair qb battle against an 8 million dollar recruit?
The RS freshman QB Jackson is a much better football prospect than the $8M surfer dude from Cali.

Going to be interesting to see how Heupel handles this issue. I think the Jackson kid ends up in the Portal sooner rather than later.

He will be behind Hooker and Milton is still there.

Vol fans hate to admit that their genius coach didn't recognize Hooker was better QB than Milton until Milton got injured and Huepel had to play Hooker.

Either he is a terrible judge of talent.......or he promised Milton the job to get him out of the portal.

I'm pretty sure an $8M price tag comes with a promise of playing time.

I would love to see Jackson in Blue after Levis leaves.

And that leads me to my next question

What happens to the 8 million if he wants to transfer?

And the next

How long until college campuses have Henry ruggs like incidents at a rapid increased pace? Giving 18 years Olds millions and supercars. Grown adults would act a fool...

Hopefully for their sake some money management courses are mandatory

Based on what I've read, the $8M is actually $2M per year for every year he is actually playing for UT. So, I guess the kid could take his 2 mil and transfer with no repercussions.

As far as money management, these kids have lawyers, agents, handlers, and posses all helping them manage their new found wealth.

BS .... then just move 5 stars on to the NFL
Players have to be coached up from HS, a lot a whole.. to think otherwise is beyond ignorant
just because we can't beat UT? please...

So UL is going to be a beast nest year and after? rhetorical

I laughed out loud at that last statement. Thank you for that. Mandatory and course in the same sentence on a post about UT. I see what you did there

But are you convinced he can keep 'em out of jail, from druggin' and stealin' and molestin' and being great athletes who get misdirected in Knoxville from time to time. The Vols have recruited more high rated athletes to end up going nowhere but to get in trouble.

With all that advice and the IRS getting their share he will be living in a dorm and fiding a bike.

Their class will likely be top 10 based on last year's numbers, 2200-2300 range. They just got a 3* kid out og GA, a couple, one tried to commit to us 3 weeks ago and was told to wait, opted for UT and the other is a decent player but not what we want at LB. Now the vs are claiming both are severely underrated and will be All SEC by year 2. They haven't seen good players in so long they don't even recognize them.

Well, no money is supposed to come from the schools so your scenario is apples to water melon.

What a weird thread.

Why are you worried about this 1 team out recruiting us? When the sad fact of 2023 recruiting is we are being out recruited by virtually everyone we regularly play....except Vandy. So why worry about 1 opponent out of the 12 we play yearly?

If trends continue, at signing day Tennessee will prob have a 7 or 8th best class nationally, Louisville will have 15th or so. And our UK Wildcats will be late 30s and 12th or 13th in the SEC. Yeah, there is def reason to worry, just no need to focus on 1 of our opponents
