Florida tweet

I just wish now that we'll put a couple of UL sized azz whippings on them to pay back for the spurrier years a little
Stoops is not the guy for that. Not complaining, but I knew we’d never slit throats when Coach let Penn State off the hook. The type of games where SEC teams absolutely lay the wood on an inferior B1G team. We get a lead in the second half, we’re watching paint dry.

I immediately think of Gary Patterson who was at TCU and very successful for a majority of his 21 years there, interested to see if he takes a HC job after this year at Texas

The biggest advantage UK has over some of the formerly great programs that come calling is that we are in the SEC. Stoops is building this in the toughest conference in America.

A few of the coaches that stayed one place for a while before moving on got the NFL itch and decided to try that before failing. Spurrier tried that. I know Bob Stoops once had some NFL aspirations, not exactly sure what's kept him out of coaching again since he left Oklahoma. He quit there at a relatively young age by coaching standards. He still could get back into coaching and have several years left. I don't even think he's 60 years old yet.

Bob Stoops is the coach of the Dallas Renegades in the XFL (lol) reboot

Ya Nebraska and Iowa I think have remote chances to get CMS. If Harbaugh left Michigan (like he seems to want to) and they decided they wanted Stoops, I think I’d give it more of a shot.

We are about 29 games from "owning" the Gators. Why is it that people that don't even think we will win the games are the first to go to extremes of emotion and hyperbole after a victory? It's 2 games. Let's keep it going, but thinking we "own" anyone in the SEC is silly. Every opponent is tough.
Ok

I think Edsall and RichRod are they only two the left for "bigger" college programs - and neither worked out.
Spurrier, and Carroll left for the NFL. Saban left his second stop LSU for the NFL.
Can't remember what exactly happened to Tuberville and Nutt but I'm thinking they were both shoved out the door.
I don't see any that stayed 10 years at a program and left for another college program and succeeded.

No. None succeeded. Spurrier had the most success at another program (after the Redskins failure), but it wasn't what he had at UF.

Nutt left Arkansas for Ole Miss and did not do well.

The misunderstanding here is that Stoops doesn't need to build a resume anymore, so he doesn't need a lengthy time period to rebuild programs that have a history. He just needs 3 years to get things going.

The problem with Nebraska is that you can't show the highlights of their best years because kids can't relate to that offense anymore. It's about as far from an nfl style offense as you can get these days. No one wants to see it.

-Once Stoops wins the SEC East, he will be one of if not the leading candidate(s) for any job he wants. He's already on the list if there are any vacancies anywhere right now, no question.
-White likewise is at the top of many lists right now. We're really going to have to fight to keep him, and money won't be the only factor.

The East is only getting harder to win. At this point I think we, UGA, is the best team in the country. Multiple play makers at WR/TE, a very good QB and RB, 8 future NFL OL sharing snaps. Every starter on the O and D will be drafted, multiple guys will be 1st rounders. But we still have to play and anything can happen. But I like our chances in every game. Doesn't mean we win all of u hem, but our offense is elite and the defense is close to being elite and will be by game number 5.

I think this is a good point. The East won’t exist for much longer, but it does feel like we’re in a division with Alabama 2.0. Pretty soon without divisions we’ll be competing with Alabama and UGA for a spot in conference championship game. It can make it feel like there’s a ceiling on our success. That said Stoops has broken through several ceilings in the last 10 seasons.

I mean Stoops' next ceiling is a pretty big one. People keep talking about winning the East, but if you're good enough to win the East at this point you're good enough to win the title. So is Stoops last ceiling "be the best team in football"?

Also, I don't think he's leaving the SEC. What coach has willingly left the SEC recently?

Yep. Getting harder for everybody and will continue to do so until it doesn't exist. You should like your chances. Doesn't change the fact that when Stoops wins the East he will be at the top of many lists.

If he wins the East he doesn't need to go anywhere. He'll already be at the top here, doing it with his original formula, and a legacy that is 100% his. He can get paid here just as much as anywhere else, with a job that's his forever.

In that hypothetical scenario we're also probably now stealing primary recruits away from OSU and Michigan as well as better SEC guys.

Yep. I didn't say he'd leave. I said he'd be at the top of a lot of lists.

-Spurrier is the first one that immediately comes to mind.
-Saban only had 5 years at LSU and 5 at MichSt. -Carroll left USC after 10 yrs and (buying) national 2 titles.
-Nutt was at Arkansas for 10 yrs before going to Ole Miss and fizzling out.
-Tommy Tuberville had some help leaving Auburn after 10 years there.
-Edsall at UConn was there a while. At least 7-8 yrs before he left.
-RichRod... how many years did he have at WV? 7?
Gary Pinkel left Toledo after 10 years for Missouri and is now the all-time winningest coach at both schools. It is a pretty short list though. Another good example isn’t immediately coming to mind.

True but most of those coaches didn't build the team from the ground up like Stoops

Excellent memory. Forgot about Pinkel

I think there is a strong possibility that he never leaves Kentucky.

I can't say that we "own" Florida, but we're working on a decent streak. I hope to one day hear CMS say "they have a hellava punter."

Unless he is offered crazy money, I don't think CMS goes anywhere. At least I hope not. Stoops has finally got Kentucky on a upper trajectory in football.

We can get into the playoffs without winning the East even under the current format but especially after they go to a 12 team format. Once you get in, anything can happen.

Stoops is "little brother" in his family. Big brother won a Natty at Oklahoma, little brother has fought all his life to be viewed as good as big brother. I think that's what's in the back of his mind that drives him.
