I actually don’t think their bracket is that unmanageable. I definitely understand respecting UConn as a potential second round game, but unless you’re counting on Hurley pulling a rabbit out of his hat, they don’t have the results or the metrics to make them any scarier than a typical 8 seed. If anything, the committee may have done Florida a favor by letting them avoid the actual outlier on that seed line in Gonzaga.
As for St. John’s, I know it’s risky to bet against Pitino, but they may actually be one of my candidates for an early exit. Their defense is great, but you don’t see many 2 seeds who struggle to score as much as they do (65th in adjusted efficiency on Kenpom). I wouldn’t be surprised if that bites them before the Elite 8, but if they do get that far, I think Florida handles them.
