Finebaum not too kind...

Finebaum said what has Cal really done??? Only won 1 title...is he their to go to final 4 or win titles??? Then Finebaum asked what Stoops has done to warrant 15 million dollar buyout?? Nobody knocking down his door

My gracious...what an assinine thing to say.
So Cal should win the title ever yr or at least every other? M Kay.

This clown will be talking out the other side of his mouth come next yr. When the reinforcements arrive.

Way to kick a program when they recently suffered arguably their most heartbreaking loss ever.

I hope we annialate everyone by 30 next season. Then let Kojak run his yapper.

He's looking down on Cal's run only because of the run Saban is on in his back yard. Pretty stupid.

I like Cal, and hope Stoops turns it around but I think he has a point. Cal has had a great run at UK but when it comes right down to it if he were to leave right now he's got one championship.

Go ahead and criticize me for saying it. But if you look at all the talent Cal has had here don't you think it's sad that we only have one championship to show for it?

I think a lot of people would agree with that - BUT - Coach K has 5 titles in 30 years - again you do the math - and IF Cal were to stay - he's not on a bad pace.. and we're trending upward for next year. And again .. if Cal leaves .. WHO are you going to get?

Well you got to get to the final four to win titles, they kind of go hand in hand.

If we're going by this logic then Dean Smith must've been a horrible coach, only 2 titles from 11 FFs. Plus 1 title came from having MJ on the team, so that should be discounted. All that talent and only 2 championships to show for it. Sounds pretty idiotic to say doesn't it?

There is a very short list of coaches with multiple championships. Championships just don't grow on trees.

Not at all. Cal has had UK in the FF 4 of the 6 yrs he has been here and has a title. Thats a remarkable run few can match. Plus he has done it with primarily Freshman going thru a revolving door yr in and yr out.
Think about it...Not easy at all.
Cal is a Boss.

I agree. And hope Cal stays for a long time. But when you look back at the teams loaded with talent he's had here it's pretty disappointing.

Lots of missed opportunities. Especially last year and 2010

I get his point although I don't really agree with it.

One title in six seasons is a great record by any standard. On the other hand, we have been SO close to several others that it is disappointing we don't have even more.

I'm still hoping to see us pass UCLA for overall titles in my lifetime. Cal gives us our best chance of doing that IMO, so I'm with him for the long haul.

Hard to compare football and basketball IMO. In basketball a couple of good/great players can make all the difference in the world. Football takes more than just a handful of good players to make a difference.

I reallt don't know who is the smartest,Paul or his callers.

Throughblue...praytell...wtf you want me banned for??? Matt Jones was on Finebaum and we are discussing it

What so many have a hard time comprehending, including many of our own fans (which is not surprising) is the fact that our "talent" is based off high school projections and perceived potential for the NBA draft.

Bledsoe was not nearly the player he has become.

Wall was averaging way too many turnovers.

Cousins couldn't stay on the floor longer than 15 mins every game.

Orton was a non-factor.

Knight had to learn to handle the scoring lead and distributor role.

Our foreign top 3 NBA draft pick center never played.

Teague took all season to come around.

Noel lost half of his year.

The twins were overrated offensively.

Randle couldnt handle the triple team for 90% of the season.

Young couldnt play defense or pass the ball.

Lee was overrrated.

Alex was overrrated.

Dakari was overrated.

Willie took 3 years and still had issues in consistency and on offense.

KAT had to learn how to play in the post.

Lyles played out of position.

Booker played terrible defense.

You could look at this and say it was pretty incredible that he got these kids to learn to play together and improve their skills well enough to make all those final fours.

The fact that we have made it so often makes many people believe that it is no great feat to get there.

The only thing disappointing is that we have been so close a few times.

Complaining about Cal losing those 3 games (10, 14, 15 - including me) and never take into account what he had to do to just to get there is unfair to coach.

If Skal is drafted in the 1st round it will be indisputable evidence that your perceived NBA potential has zero to do with you "talent and abilities" in college.

And it was also disappointing that K couldn't win a championship in '99 with 5 lottery picks, including the #1 pick, which is more than Cal has ever had on one team if I'm not mistaken. But somehow the Duke fans get over their tears because K's been on a historical tear for the past two and a half decades while always having the best or nearly the best talent. It's not that different from what Cal has done in his 6 years at a big boy school when you extrapolate out to 26, in fact.

That should tell you how logical it is to get wrapped up in Cal's failures.

The difference between one title and two is huge for some people. Win two and you are a legend but win only one and you are a bum.

Not trying to take up for the guy, but I think he is saying that UK fans want a Championship or its a bust. And Cal has only 1 since he has been here. But that guy is annoying just like all the rest.

I agree with everything you guys are saying. I'm just saying throw out all the ifs and buts and Cal has just as many championships as tubby had here with Ricks players. To me that's disappointing.

I don't know any player like Wall, Bledsoe, Cousins etc that's not better after being in the league a few years. So I don't understand that analysis.

Cal has been to 6 final fours. 4 at KY and has one championship.
Rat face has been to 12 final fours and has 5 championships.
Last years loss really is the one that's thought to swallow.

Coach K had zero titles his first 9 years at Duke. He has 5 titles in 35 years. Using your logic he was a failure. Also, UK has had 4 titles in 58 years. So once again using your logic, every coach including Rupp at UK has been disappointing. Bottom line is your opinion is flawed and ridiculous.

We have been spoiled by Cal. Remember pre-Cal, we had two years of horror. Before BG, we had Tubby who won a title his first season and then slowly went downhill where we never made it back, How about Eddie Sutton? He recruited some decent talent along with some flops and I don't recall us getting to a Final Four. Prior to that we had Joe B. Hall who was in a similar situation as Cal in terms of expectations that we should win every year. He got us to a couple Final Fours and had the great 78 team. What about Rupp? I don't recall him getting a Title after 1958 until his retirement in 1971. Wow 13 years without a Title no wonder they forced his retirement, although he had that Final game in 66.

Cal has Kentucky as the number one place top recruits want to be. The problem is that the one and done era has diluted college basketball and some of the elite recruits flop just like in the past during their first or even second year. But, when the NBA takes a kid like Dakari Johnson who had a long way to go, well this is the biggest challenge. So, some programs benefit by players who stay and develop and others get one or two really great players who blossom. Cal won a title and I hope another happens but at least he has us in the running almost every year. Everyone knows the NIT season was because of injury to Noel although I don't think that team was necessarily a title contender but you will never know. The current team has been a disappointment but that is mainly due to Skal not being what everyone thought. Yet, that disappointment beat Duke (which we all love), beat UL (which we all love) and may still win the SEC, we don't know the outcome just yet.

What do you mean using my logic? I just posted their records. I can't stand rat face or Finebaum for that matter.
There's a lot of variables in comparing Cal and K. Cal came here, to a great basketball school,as a big name coach, who was getting the top recruits in the nation even at lesser schools.
Completely different that when K went to Duke.
I'm not criticizing Cal, just saying in hindsight its disappointing considering how close we were to a few more titles.
