Fan in wheelchair. Couldn't get down to floor AFTER the game. So what did Coach Mark Pope do?.....

Mark Pope is a man with character and fit to be a leader. Make us proud to have him as the HC of Kentucky beyond what he does on the sidelines and a former player here. Pope is a class act and love to see the lengths he goes to build a relationship with the fans.

He's winning games with a quickly put together roster. The recruits are coming. The transfers will come. He can develop players. His character is incredible.

It doesn't matter if he loses 8-11 games season one in THIS SEC. This guy is great.

He is a good man, I think Cal was a good man don’t get me wrong, but I think a lot of what he did was for self promotion sometimes. Pope seems like he would do similar things and not tell a soul about it.

In my opinion, I’ve seen way too many arrogant, misplaced self-important coaches lacking in character – on both the college and high school level - who were held up as saints by fans simply because their teams won more than they lost. I don’t understand it, but I guess it’s human nature to some degree. But Pope has either fooled everybody or he’s truly an unusually good and caring person.

He’s very outgoing and loves people. It was funny to watch him run around and interview people while he was a player

Mormon's are generally some of the friendliest people you will meet. Visit Salt Lake City and it will make you wonder what is wrong with the most of the people in this country.
That’s the way America used to be when God was at the center of the country. You don’t have to be religious, but a lot of tenants of faith keep society polite and a good place to be. No surprise a place where everyone is devoted to their religion would look like that.

Yeah this season is a gauntlet. Auburn really pulled one out without Broome. He looks so good this year. I remember when he supposedly entered the portal, I wanted to go after him so bad. It was like he wasn’t considered a top 10 option at the time and I couldn’t figure out why, the dude produces. It’s gonna be hard for Auburn to not drop a couple as long as he will probably be out but I hope he gets healthy for you guys.

For sure man, just look at the Middle East! 😂 jk giving you a hard time

We may lose some games we shouldn't this year but he's made the game fun to watch again and he's got more class than any coach I've ever seen
With what Pope had to start a team with when hired, if he dos not win another game this year, no one has any room to bitch. He has far exceeded expectations on and off the court. We are blessed to have Pope. We still need to realize next year is not going to be extra great because it will take 3 years to compete for final 4. We need to be patient and enjoy the ride. Also we need to realize the refs are not targeting UK. We got a very fair whistle last night. A ref could call a foul on EVERY rebound or drive to basket. The fouls last night were 16 on MS St and 18 on KY. That is a great road balance, yet all I read last night was bad refs.

Mark Pope spent 20 minutes talking with me and my 4 kids, and signing our UK gear, after the 97 regional final against Utah. It is funny how I did not know he was Mormon then. I generally would know, as I was baptized into the Mormon Church while at UK in 1979. UK has a history with Mormon athletes going back at least to Vernon Hatton, who I was fortunate to play against when he was in his early 40's.

That honestly shocked me because those refs are generally terrible in our games. Olandis Poole is 100% a crook. He may not have a personal hate of Kentucky. It he definitely has some action on them when he refs or is involved with people that do.

I think it's interesting that talking heads always evaluated potential UK coaches by their ability to navigate the circus. People like Calipari and Pearl were mentioned because of their huge personalities and ability to craft narratives (at least Cal did before 2020).

In hindsight, all we needed was a guy who has the class to relate with the fans on a compassionate, caring level. Winning helps too, of course.

You’re exactly right! The further this country gets from God the more common and acceptable evil has become. It’s just basic moral character that is becoming a thing of the past. Do the right thing!!

I’ll admit, I was as skeptical as the next guy when we hired pope. Not because I didn’t like him, but the fact that UK couldn’t go out and hire the biggest and baddest made feel like this wasn’t the job that it once was. I wanted Hurley in a bad way. Boy was I wrong! Pope is everything and more that we as UK fans could ever want and there is no other coach I would want at the helm than him. He truly gets what it means to be the UK basketball coach and I hope he goes on an historic run and becomes the next coach to win multiple titles at UK and gets a statue built of him. What an incredible coach and an incredible human being!
