Excited to see Lee this year

My biggest excitement is how much all of our players improve. Not just Lee but everyone. If they can all take a huge step forward, we'll be REALLY EFFING exciting to watch. This includes Hawkins and Willis.

I think Hawkins is close to a breakout year, i'm sure he's getting to the point it'll be hard to not play him.

Any factual info here or are you just a hoping and a praying? I'm going to go with 99.99% the latter. Cals not going to give away minutes at the PG from Ulis, Briscoe, and Murrray (all 3 vastly superior PGs to Ulis), and he is not going to give away minutes at the 2 from Briscoe, Murray and Mulder to a guy who cannot shoot.

Who said anything about PG. He'll play the off guard, point guard will be rotated between Ulis/Briscoe.

Just because you don't get it doesn't make it wrong. He was critical player that helped us get to final four 2 years AGO. Last year we were way too loaded to have third string player to play. However, this year it's not as deep. You look at Ulis, Briscoe, Murray, Mulder, and Mathews in three position (1,2,3). What's to say Hawkins, who helped us against Michigan by playing huge defense on their top player, can't play above some of these players?

Of course, that's assuming he puts his offseason work.

It is pretty deep. We have 5 players better than him at the 1, 2 and 3 positions. Last year we had 5 at those positions as well post-Poy injury. The guy can't shoot...why would Cal play him over guys who are more talented and who can score/shoot better? He won't. You act like the rest of our guys can't play some solid to good D. Just because you don't get it doesn't make it wrong.

I respect your opinion, just agree to disagree. I'm also going by Cal's track record. He plays the best players, so unless Hawkins learns to shoot at all (he is terrible at shooting, check his stats from last season), he is not going to get more than mop up minutes for the most part. You did say "assuming he puts in his offseason work" which I hope is shooting a ton of FTs, 3 pointers and 2 point shots and improving his shooting.

And Finally, 2 years ago does not mean jack now. The players are going to be judged on this coming season, which I thought was obvious.

5 players in 3 positions is different than 4 players in 2 positions (last year). Also, Ulis, Briscoe, and Murray is definitely better than Hawkins...but never seen Mulder (And i'm sure you haven't seen him much either) so not sure why you are penciling him in as better. (again, we will probably go small line-up, unlike last year's big line up. You wouldn't see guard playing 3 last year, but will see this year)

Hawkins potential is there, he's athletically gifted and is a good defensive player.

2 years ago does mean something. It's called potential and capability. If he has the capability to help us to final four, i don't see how (assuming he keeps working hard) that he wouldn't be able to earn minute two years later in a thinner line-up.

I think Hawkins will play early, but only if Cal needs to prove a point that defense is #1. After that we have a lot of firepower in front of him.

Ulis
Briscoe
Murray
Mulder
Matthews

Without foul trouble I don't see it. I love the kid and really hope he works on that jumper, I love his energy.
