The college game has changed drastically over the last three or four years. It has become increasingly more like the pro game. Walking is rarely called and the game has become so physical, defenders can bang their bodies into the offensive player as long as they don’t slap them across the wrist. offensive players can lower their shoulder and bully you all the way down the lane bouncing you all the way without an offensive file being called. Just like the NBA there is now the continuation move, which was clearly saying in the Arkansas Auburn game last night. The game is now ,so physical, officials don’t really know what to do and are letting them play. At least this is the case in the SEC. I’m wondering when we get to the tournament will that be allowed or will SEC teams find themselves in early foul trouble trying to adjust to officiating from different leagues? Maybe it’s because of Covid and NIL but the game has evolved to the point that you better have three or four 6-8 to 6-9 guys who weigh 240 pounds and can shoot the three because the game now is all about getting to the basket for a dunk or shooting a three the mid range game no longer exist. If you watch women’s basketball, most of the teams are now shooting 60 to 70% of all attempts from three-point range and I just think the game has been ruined maybe by Covid or by NIL I’m not sure what has caused the transition. Am I wrong in my assumptions here?

Your Dores got blown out and you said the rumor is that your coach is leaving for Indiana. Just glad I’m a UK fan. Settling in for LONG Pope era!

This is a good question. I have no idea how other conference officials call games.

People keep SO many stats these days, just like the stats on Amari that are in another post on this board right now. Obscure stuff that no one would have even thought of keeping a couple decades ago. I wish someone would keep stats on officials -- individually, by conference, home and aways games, etc. Maybe there is some version of this out there, but I've not seen it.

It would be interesting to know (for example), how many charges are called in the SEC as compared to the Big Ten. Or how many traveling calls. How many players foul out on the road. Etc.

Of course, I'm a stat geek, so...

Coaches and officials ruined the college game decades ago. It’s not recent.

They think people come to watch them coach and officiate and the administrations ratified it.

Just look at the SEC officials and try to say the SEC cares about basketball.

As to the second part, a huge reason SEC teams fall apart in the NCAA is because they get away from the SEC officials.

Most SEC teams play to the SEC officials. If they could take them with them they could advance in the tournament.

The biggest problem I have with it is the constant grabbing and pushing on both ends has made it reallly hard to watch, a lot of that now created on the offensive end. With the way they are allowed to cup and carry the ball, combined with the freedom to attack off the dribble and make contact into a defender to create space and finish, its almost impossible to play defense without grabbind and bumping to hold your spot! This has led to an escalation of the physical contact on both sides and its kind of a mess to watch, a 40 minute wrestling match. And with athletes continuing to get bigger and faster and stronger its going to get worse.

Same problem in college football between WR and DB. They've let both sides get away with so much hand grabbing and pushing you cant tell whats clean or whats a foul anymore and its really hard to watch. And most of it comes on the offensive side to me. In basketball the offensive guys will just bullrush and shove and push all the way to the rim and then once they go into their motion and the slightest brush from the defender - WHISTLE!!

They have to start with cleaning up the hand contact on both sides so that there is more freedom of movement and a prettier game to watch. The body contact is secondary and needs policed better too but just clean up all the hand fighting first. IMO

Smiling when a poster rushes to post negativity every time we lose, within an hour of the loss but not saying a PEEP when we lose to Vandy isnt hostility, its pure entertainment. 🤣

What a hoot.

Even funnier, when we lost to UGA, our next game was Miss State. Vandy had just gotten beaten by Miss State and he started a thread saying "The bad news is that Miss State is better", meaning that Miss. State was better than UGA, who we just lost to. He thought (was hoping) we'd lose to Miss State beause his Candy had just lost to them. He tried to make us more miserable while we were down. F that stuff.

What a hoot.
