ESPN's final 2017 recruiting rankings - be prepared

It's great that he's only at #18. He'll have something to prove, probably start working his butt off, improving his game and becoming a lottery pick.

I don't see much wrong with this based upon the most recent performances. I will say Gary Trent is somewhat high based upon that prior statement though. Otherwise, no big deal to me. Skal was rated number 2 two years ago, wasn't he? So, not sure how significant any of these exactly are. Porter does look like the real deal to me but otherwise, no one was so fantastic that you would say get that kid and you are in the Final Four. In fact, I did not think defensively Porter was a game changer either.

Funny - missed LiAngelo Ball in that list... Hmmm... Daddy got some work to do - or somebody got some splainin' to do.

Gary Trent should not be in the top 10, Jaren Jackson should be above Wendel Carter, and Vanderbilt is to low.

I don't see anything in those rankings that bad or that warrants bringing out the tin foil hats. I was thinking that Washington, Alexander and Baker all moved up, but maybe that's wrong.

But, based on the all-star games, I would agree with the criticism of the Vanderbilt and Trent rankings. Still, I'm going on a small sample size, so my perception may not be accurate.

Also, I don't know why Vanderbilt continues to be listed as a PF. I suppose it doesn't matter in the larger scheme of things, but to me he is a SF all day - and maybe should be ranked as the 2nd best one at that.

Watching Carter in these all star games and the Hoops Summit I just don't see how he is ranked #4 and it has nothing to do with him going to Duke. I see him more like #15.
LOL no chance. He is one of the youngest players in the class and arguably the most skilled big(offensively) in the class. He is a consensus top 4 player in the class according to all services for a reason. Some of you put way too much stock into these all-star games. The quality of play is terrible and dominated by guards. Makes it difficult for bigs to really do much. Bigs need a structured setting.

I will say that the one time I watched him in a real game setting, he had weak hands. Couldn't hold onto the ball to save his life.

Disagree. I don't look at the same things as others do. I don't think he is 6ft10 for one closer to 6ft9 maybe 6ft8.5 he doesnt move people around with his weight. But the big thing the thing I noticed in a couple of high school games one of which was vs Richards he struggles to score against guys as big or bigger than him. I think he is solid but I don't think he is a 5 but a 4 who wants to be a stretch 4. He is not quick enough with a good enough handle for that. I am thinking 10 or11 is where he should be.

Ayton rated over Bamba was surprising. Vanderbilt 18, who is scouting and coming up with these rankings my goodness. Trent top 15 at best not a top 10.

these are the same "experts" who had okafor #1 and towns #9.
Okafor was better than Towns in college as these recruiting analysts predicted. Jah was 1st Team All-American and ACC Player of the Year while Towns was 2nd Team All-American.

Clearly Towns is the better player now but that wasn't the case when they were playing college basketball.

Trent is a beast man, he's got the body of Isaiah Briscoe and shoots like Devin Booker.

Vanderbilt is probably a few spots too low but he needs to work on this shooting.

If he was better in college why wasn't he drafted higher. Okafor played no defense! Nobody believed Okafor was better going into March. Besides Zachdeer1 is that u?

True. It took Calipari a season to change that. Calipari knew what Towns needed, and forced Towns to man up and be the player he became. As Calipari said in his own words, "I coached the sh*t out of Karl Towns." Thanks for reminding us why no Big should ever pick Duke over UK.

Where are Trent's HS shooting stats to back that up. Solid player but I have yet to see him do anything in the all Star games except miss. Will struggle to get his own shot another guy who should be around 14 or 15

Vanderbilt shoots better than Ben Simmons handles better too. About equal of a passer.

and wasn't Booker like #29 or something? Yet, after it's all said and done, all I hear for the most part is "well, Townes and Booker would have been lottery picks playing for any coach." There are a limited number of choices. Either Cal develops talent better than others, or he has a better eye for talent than others.

Edit: Just checked, ESPN had Booker at #18 that year. Not as bad as I thought, but nothing to predict lottery status a year later. Pretty sure either Rivals or Scout had Booker in the late 20s, right before or after Shaquan Aaron who went to UofL. Clearly, similar players, and clearly, similar jobs of developing by RP and Cal.....

He doesn't play with a good motor. In the all-star games I forgot he was even on the team. He just seemed to laid back. Maybe he didn't want to demand the ball like some of the other guys did, maybe he didn't want to risk getting injured and he just let the game come to him, but if a Kentucky recruit had been as ineffective as he was during these games he would have dropped in the final rankings. I'm mean why wait to do the final rankings after the all-star break if they don't have any impact on the final rankings? Giles last year. Missed his whole senior year of HS, didn't play in any of the all-star games and keeps the top spot? That was ridiculous, especially with the class he was in.

ESPN has shown time and time again that they are the worst at this out of the 4 major recruiting services. Wouldn't put a lot of stock in it. Rivals is consistently good and Meyer at 247 goes against the common group think a lot and is often right. He's had misses, but I think their rankings are usually pretty good. Scout is okay.

Agreed. He is def a top 10 player in the class. He may the #4 player as he is ranked here. And from the two AAU games I saw of his, he picked the perfect school. He pouted when he was pulled from games. Had a terrible attitude towards his teammates. This kid had dukie written all over him. He acted like the Grayson Allen, post player addition

ridiculous. GTFO with that fairy bullshit. In no universe is Okafor a better player than Townes.

Flopping fairy

I agree cal is good ,but a times he misses. Poy was a top 8 player and wasn't even drafted. Dakari was considered the top center in the class, he hasn't made out of the D league. The Harrison entered college as the best at their positions. The bottom line all coaches miss as do all evaluators.
