emotional support animal

My biggest complaint is the people who take their pitbull with them to the local pub. Pitbulls are everywhere here in Fort Worth.
While in the military, I had a dog handler playing games with me. He had his German Sheperd lunging at me and growling like he wanted to kill me. I pulled my 38, pointed at the dog and said, "Don't make me kill him." He calmed the dog down and never played that game again to my knowledge.

Emotional support animals are in the same category as pink, blue, et al hair or goths...it's attention whoring.

I watched a dog take a giant piss in Lowe's this past Saturday. Who needs their pet with them to pick out a new faucet?

I bet TucsonCat enjoys a good dog-knotting.
emotional support animals are not allowed to go in stores. The laws relating to emotional support animals only apply to housing and transportation.

But that doesn't stop people from taking them into stores. It happens all the time. And the stores are afraid to say anything - beyond the signs they put up at their entrances - because they fear a lawsuit or a loss of customers.

Once the words ‘service animal’ come out that’s the end of the discussion at most places. Which is absurd but hey maybe that lady really did need a turkey to fly with.

Let me add, the service dog in the restaurant lying on the floor whimpering and making noises is not comfortable for me. And, when the owner gives me a dirty look for paying attention to their dog, that is just annoying.

Go get an emotional support dog and get over it.
Nah, I just don't like people that treat real service animals like they're a burden to YOU. I'm real sure that the person suffering from epilepsy, or POTS, or sight issues really wants that condition so they can get judgmental looks from you.

Yeah, people abuse the emotional support animal thing all the time. But if an animal is with someone in a restaurant, they are allowed to be there by law. So, get over it. And stop being so self-centered that you can't have any other perspective other than a tired service dog slightly whimpering makes you so uncomfortable. Consider someone else's malady for two seconds. Grow up.

Crying over an opinion about emotional support dogs is probably a diagnosable condition.

And, HOW DARE YOU SAY PEOPLE ABUSE “THE THING” all the time! Pig!!!

😆

This part of your post is hilarious self-righteous doo doo. It’s amazing how people post in this thread that they like dogs more than humans. I do not share that opinion, but I do care when a support dog seems uncomfortable and its owner just ignores it. I give it attention, causing the owner to give me a dirty look, as if I just peed on her food, and you think her “malady” justifies the behavior. 😝

I really don't have a dog in this fight (sorry, too easy), because support dogs and service dogs don't bother me . . . .

. . . . except for a few egregious examples, like (A) when I was with a friend at an outdoor restaurant, and the couple next to me brought in their little dog (was not a service dog, just their pet), who was fine . . . until the idiots put her up on their table and started feeding little Fifi by hand. I almost said "What in the Actual F ___ are you doing??? Who in the hell wants to eat at that table after your dog's ass and filthy paws has been all over it??"

Then (B) when I was working at the election a couple of years ago when a woman brought in her dog to the polls (again, not a service dog, just her pet) who proceeded to pee all over the floor right where we checking in voters. Then she laughed and said "sorry" as she took her ballot and dog over to the scanner to vote. We had to get paper towels and disinfectant to clean it up. One of my coworkers said the lady's dog did that one other time before, so was hardly unexpected.

Sometimes I wonder what some people are thinking, or even if they are thinking at all.

The “my dog has to go with me” attitude is tiresome and self-indulgent, but truly pathetic when the owner lets the dog pee inside or places a dog on a table. That voter should have been handed the cleaning utensils and forced to clean the area herself. 🤦

Wow. Maybe you should calm down.

Maybe “comfort dog” is the better description.
Yes. Service dogs are highly trained and serve a unique function for their owner. They are not "comfort" dogs and their owner needs them in a quantifiable way.

Comfort animals started with the rest of the trans/furries/schools as indoctrination camps nonsense. I personally don't mind the dogs as I'm an animal fan to begin with but many people arent.

The biggest problem is the ADA. Businesses or government buildings or whatever are only allowed to ask 2 questions.

  • Is the dog a service animal required because of a disability?

  • What work or task has the dog been trained to perform?
Only dogs can be service animals. Airlines have a different law they have to follow, Air Carrier Access Act (ACAA)

I cared for two parents with disabilities, at the same time for nearly 13 years. I've been there and dealt with a lot of judgmental looks from people who didn't have a damn clue. Sounds like you're one of them. I reiterate, grow up and have a good one.

Sadly, people like them give real pet owners a bad name. She's not an asshole because she has a dog, she's an asshole because she's an entitled PITA.

In certain cases miniature horses are considered service animals.

True story:

Several years ago I saw a mule, yes a mule, in a Walmart store. It was wearing an obviously fake service animal thing on it's back. The guy who was leading it looked like he came from an area back in the hills where they have to pipe in sunlight. I kept waiting for it to take a big dump or piss but never did see it happen. Everyone who saw it was incredulous at the sight of a damn mule in a store. Apparently WM management didn't mind. ( Big surprise, right?)

Hmm, the ADA says only dogs can be service animals. Anything can be a comfort animal but no one is required to accommodate comfort animals.

Before we were married my wife used to work as a bartender and I would go in near closing time to take her home. One night I showed up and the whole place was rocking a brawl. Cops were already there, and one was on a car with weapon drawn because a pit had him backed up on the car. The dog belonged to one of the men who started the fight, and the cop was in the process of arresting him when the dog jumped out of the window of the car and went after him.

Luckily, the dog owner's friend knew the dog and helped get him back in the car before a shot was fired.

We're both right, lol : "Under the Americans with Disabilities Act, (ADA), dogs are the only animals recognized as service animals. While other species, like miniature horses, can be permitted in some circumstances, the ADA definition specifically uses the term "dog".

I only knew about the miniature horse exception because of a call I'd gotten from a client a few years ago concerning that exact scenario, lol.

I had a great one. Thanks!

And, stop being so damn judgmental. That will be the first step in things getting better. Good luck.

I am an animal fan, as well. I love dogs. And, I want people who emotionally believe they need a dog to have a dog.

I just don’t want your comfort dog near me on the plane and I don’t like seeing it on the floor of a restaurant acting uncomfortable while its owner ignores it.

The fact that my opinion triggers some people here is probably evidence for the need of comfort dogs. 🤷

I think we're agreeing. I wasn't intending to infer you didn't like dogs.
