Elgin Cook says Murray is a duck

It's looked that way for a while. Doubt Murray will be happy about the tweet.

I seen that, I usually don't really believe things like this, but the way these recruits have spurned us this off season, my gut tells me that he's going to Oregon. Expect a rebuttal by the Murray camp in 3...2...1..

He sent that tweet last Wednesday. Make of that what you will.

Glad his announcement got spoiled for him. Sour grapes, blue goggles, whatever, that's all probably true, but after about the 50th player this spring to put us in the top 2-3 only to spurn us come announcement time, I'm sick of it, right now I want all of their announcements to be ruined well ahead of time if they're not coming here and only going to use us to hype their stock (at least before their sad realities set in next season). Not saying it's right to feel that way, that's just how I feel.

Needless to say I have no intentions of watching his ESPNU special. Murray had the red carpet rolled out for him and was offered prime rib but he'd rather have a crap sandwich. Eat up, kid, hope you love it.

The sad thing is, he was pretty much the last option, unless Winyard comes early. Willis and Hawkins better be ready to ball out.

I am talking the class of 2016.

This class is set and Wynyard will be here in December, IMHO.

Starters
G Ulis- 35+mpg.
G Briscoe- starts at the 2, backup at the 1. 35+mpg.
G Matthews- 20+mpg.
F Poythress- 30+mpg.
F Labissiere- 30+mpg.

Bench
G Hawkins- spot duty. 4-5mpg.
G Mulder- backs up the 2 and 3. 20+mpg.
G Floreal- practice player.
F Willis- spot duty. 2-3mpg.
F Lee- sixth man, starter minutes at the 4 and 5. 25-30mpg.
F Wynyard- foul trouble replacement inside. 5-10mpg (second semester).

Could use another guy for depth, though.

But it will be fine. Just need to avoid a major injury. That could get us even if we signed another stud or two. Did this past year and we had the deepest team ever.

We need another scorer badly.Skal can do it but who knows which Alex we get coming off a serious injury.Tyler is really more of a true point and not huge scorer.Matthews is not a good shooter,Mulder is a juco and you never know what you will get there,Lee is talented but erratic and terrible at free throws.Briscoe is really going to have to take over this team.

Hahaha yall say all this now but if he picks UK you will once again worship the ground he walks on.

Only way Matthews gets 20 + min, our back court would need to be depleted.

He or Mulder would have to play the 3.I would guess Cal would have them share time and go with the hot player at the time.I think Mulder would get more time because of experience. If both struggle maybe Willis would get some time.

If he doesn't pick us, so be it. Not many of us insulting him, but those who are - c'mon. Be grown about it.

If Willis plays much at all at the 3, it's going to be a long season.

I'd go super small and quick if Mulder and Matthews are both duds.

G Ulis
G Hawkins- started some last season, we know he can defend.
G Briscoe- 6'4, 220 and 6'8 wingspan, he can guard the 3 spot.
F Poythress
F Labissiere

If Hawkins can just knock down the open 3 on offense and keep the defense honest, then that lineup could get the job done. That might be our best defensive lineup if Matthews and Mulder aren't ready for prime time.

Willis guarding 6'4-6'6 college 3's scares me. I can't see him keeping guys like Justin Jackson (UNC) or Antonio Blakeney (LSU) in front of him. And if Willis is ready to contribute, I have a feeling we will need him inside at the 4 spot. Not a lot of depth inside for us.

Hopefully Hawkins has been shooting a thousand threes a day. Think he only shot about 30% from there last year. The only thing holding him back.

His size hurts him as well. He's only 6'0 at most and isn't a dynamic ball handler or playmaker.

I really hope we do not have to see that lineup very often unless Hawkins just comes out and flat out shoots lights out.

Typically a player has his best jump in shooting percentage between his Sophomore and Junior year. Maybe Hawkins follows that trend.

For example, if you look at Miller and Liggins you can see what I am talking about. Miller went from 34% from 3 his Soph year to 44% from 3 his Junior year. Liggins went from 32% from 3 as a Soph to 39% as a Junior. Meeks also had a big jump from 32% as a Soph to 41% as a Junior.

If Hawkins has a similar increase he could go from a lowly 24% to a respectable 33-34%.

I don't see him making that much of a jump, but if he did he would probably see a lot more clock.

But like I said, Mulder and Matthews would have to be complete duds before we would go to that lineup as our primary one. If that happens we are probably struggling to make the tourney.

This reminds me of that one mega-jerk from every HS that asks a cute girl to the prom and when she turns him down he tells everyone that she's a lesbian. Way messed up, Dude!

We have been beat all spring on recruits and now Im just expecting it. I have no idea why it happened or what it means for the future but Im hoping that whatever it is that we have a great fall.

While I agree that we should insult the kid; he's going to do what he wants to do; can anyone say with a straight face that he'd be announcing on espnu if he were choosing between Oregon and Utah?

IF the Twitter leak is true, then he is basically using Kentucky for the spotlight. I may be wrong and the Twitter thing is a misunderstanding or whatever but indications are, the cat's out of the bag and he's taking advantage of the name "Kentucky" on his recruitment.

But again, that said, let's be classy about it UK fans.

Worst recruiting off-season we've had in a while, certainly during the Cal era. Not sure why kids all of the sudden don't want to play for a coach who puts so many kids in the NBA? It doesn't make a lick of sense.

I am not one to give up but I am also not one to jump all in on a recruit after I learned my lesson(s) this year. I try to use common sense when figuring out where a recruit goes and can usually deduce the end result. (I never have posted my opinion about where a recruit will go as it is and always will be just my opinion. I'd rather read others opinions. :)) This year leaves me scratching my head....

No known reasons for these choices by this latest recruiting cycle...

Got to say this. If Murray goes to Oregon, rather than UK, basketball isn't all that important in his decision making. Something else and I'm not talking about money under the table.

Competition shyness?

There are so many factors at play here. Murray has connections to the oregon staff, were pretty full in the back court, he knows he will be exposed at UK good or bad... However, if the lights at UK scare him off what does he expect at the next level? There are going to be several 2015 guys that will be in for a harsh reality check when their numbers are poor all season and they see their draft stock drop because they were double teamed all season long...

Who really knows? It has been my experience that if a logical decision is not made (always seems to be exceptions with illogical decisions from time to time (Those happen)) there is a reason. I won't speculate on the reason but everyone doesn't operate or conduct themselves in an upright manner that all can understand.

You can also place a lot of what happens on "feelings". It is very hard to keep business and personal decisions separate no matter how many times you hear about someone stating they are going to do that. Making a business decision is hard. Too hard for many. (It's why professional athletes hire business managers.) You can't fault someone for not being able to make a hard business decision. It's not easy. (If it was, everyone would do it. They don't most of the time.)

An example: MJ doesn't have a "business manager" he has a manager for his time/ schedule. MJ will cut your throat in a second if a dollar is involved (Business-wise). I think James is in that same category.

I can understand the kid having trouble with it but it's his father who has really surprised me.He was very vocal about the decision being about his future and being the number 1 pick and friendship would have nothing to do with it.I can't understand why he said all that crap when it seems it would be Oregon the whole time.

Lots of times in these situations the school that has been on a kid the longest wins....we got in way way late

At the same time, he just reclassified. UK doesn't really throw out dozens and dozens of offers to guys who are over a year away. Oregon might. Mississippi State did. Others do, because they might have 2 or 3 top 50 guys who are even listing them. Makes it a lot easier to decipher who always has a guaranteed offer.

It doesn't mean at the end, you don't take the best offer regardless. Loyalty only goes so far. Something else has to be going on...

Maybe papa Murray thinks getting double teamed at Oregon will better prepare Jamal for the NBA?

Cal was talking about his players at camp this past week saying things along the lines of "I like who we have" " no reason these guys can't make another run at this" etc etc. I just got the impression from him that Murray wasn't coming and that the roster is pretty much finalized.

If he goes to Oregon I'll be disappointed because he looks like a reckless/fearless, talented player. I expect I'll grieve over it on long winter nights while I'm pining for the fjords. I'll pin a daguerreotype of Murray to the kitchen wall and pause before it like a Mother remembering her youngest child -- Our Danny! -- lost in battle decades ago. Her cheeks creased with care, her knuckles raw from scrubbing floors for the laird, a stray hair, almost white now, loosed from the bun she combs out each night. She sings somberly to herself the Ave Maria. What could have been. Ah. What could have been. A single violin plays softly. The credits roll and in the lower third a reminder that Wheetabix eaten before bed time helps you to wake regular each morning. Fin.
