If it walks like a duck, talks like a duck and looks like a duck.....
The sad thing is, he was pretty much the last option, unless Winyard comes early. Willis and Hawkins better be ready to ball out.
I am talking the class of 2016.
This class is set and Wynyard will be here in December, IMHO.
Starters
G Ulis- 35+mpg.
G Briscoe- starts at the 2, backup at the 1. 35+mpg.
G Matthews- 20+mpg.
F Poythress- 30+mpg.
F Labissiere- 30+mpg.
Bench
G Hawkins- spot duty. 4-5mpg.
G Mulder- backs up the 2 and 3. 20+mpg.
G Floreal- practice player.
F Willis- spot duty. 2-3mpg.
F Lee- sixth man, starter minutes at the 4 and 5. 25-30mpg.
F Wynyard- foul trouble replacement inside. 5-10mpg (second semester).
Could use another guy for depth, though.
But it will be fine. Just need to avoid a major injury. That could get us even if we signed another stud or two. Did this past year and we had the deepest team ever.
He or Mulder would have to play the 3.I would guess Cal would have them share time and go with the hot player at the time.I think Mulder would get more time because of experience. If both struggle maybe Willis would get some time.Only way Matthews gets 20 + min, our back court would need to be depleted.

Hopefully Hawkins has been shooting a thousand threes a day. Think he only shot about 30% from there last year. The only thing holding him back.If Willis plays much at all at the 3, it's going to be a long season.
I'd go super small and quick if Mulder and Matthews are both duds.
G Ulis
G Hawkins- started some last season, we know he can defend.
G Briscoe- 6'4, 220 and 6'8 wingspan, he can guard the 3 spot.
F Poythress
F Labissiere
If Hawkins can just knock down the open 3 on offense and keep the defense honest, then that lineup could get the job done. That might be our best defensive lineup if Matthews and Mulder aren't ready for prime time.
Willis guarding 6'4-6'6 college 3's scares me. I can't see him keeping guys like Justin Jackson (UNC) or Antonio Blakeney (LSU) in front of him. And if Willis is ready to contribute, I have a feeling we will need him inside at the 4 spot. Not a lot of depth inside for us.

Glad his announcement got spoiled for him. Sour grapes, blue goggles, whatever, that's all probably true, but after about the 50th player this spring to put us in the top 2-3 only to spurn us come announcement time, I'm sick of it, right now I want all of their announcements to be ruined well ahead of time if they're not coming here and only going to use us to hype their stock (at least before their sad realities set in next season). Not saying it's right to feel that way, that's just how I feel.
Needless to say I have no intentions of watching his ESPNU special. Murray had the red carpet rolled out for him and was offered prime rib but he'd rather have a crap sandwich. Eat up, kid, hope you love it.
We have been beat all spring on recruits and now Im just expecting it. I have no idea why it happened or what it means for the future but Im hoping that whatever it is that we have a great fall. This reminds me of that one mega-jerk from every HS that asks a cute girl to the prom and when she turns him down he tells everyone that she's a lesbian. Way messed up, Dude!
Got to say this. If Murray goes to Oregon, rather than UK, basketball isn't all that important in his decision making. Something else and I'm not talking about money under the table.
Competition shyness?
I can understand the kid having trouble with it but it's his father who has really surprised me.He was very vocal about the decision being about his future and being the number 1 pick and friendship would have nothing to do with it.I can't understand why he said all that crap when it seems it would be Oregon the whole time.Who really knows? It has been my experience that if a logical decision is not made (always seems to be exceptions with illogical decisions from time to time (Those happen)) there is a reason. I won't speculate on the reason but everyone doesn't operate or conduct themselves in an upright manner that all can understand.
You can also place a lot of what happens on "feelings". It is very hard to keep business and personal decisions separate no matter how many times you hear about someone stating they are going to do that. Making a business decision is hard. Too hard for many. (It's why professional athletes hire business managers.) You can't fault someone for not being able to make a hard business decision. It's not easy. (If it was, everyone would do it. They don't most of the time.)
An example: MJ doesn't have a "business manager" he has a manager for his time/ schedule. MJ will cut your throat in a second if a dollar is involved (Business-wise). I think James is in that same category.
Lots of times in these situations the school that has been on a kid the longest wins....we got in way way late
Maybe papa Murray thinks getting double teamed at Oregon will better prepare Jamal for the NBA?I can understand the kid having trouble with it but it's his father who has really surprised me.He was very vocal about the decision being about his future and being the number 1 pick and friendship would have nothing to do with it.I can't understand why he said all that crap when it seems it would be Oregon the whole time.
the reporter that leaked the info on Twitter about the announcement is now saying it won't be on ESPNU, but rather a Canadian station.
We owed them one when we stole T Jones......he can be the man at Oregon. That's why Newman didn't sign.
Owed Oregon because Terrence Jones picked UK over Washington...
