I always "man up" and apologize when I'm wrong and already did so in the eating crow thread. Look it up and see for yourself.
There's no excuse other than the build up of negativity following the loss of a championship and perfect season, followed by multiple OAD players making, in my opinion, really dumb decisions because of one stupid connection or the other and it just finally got to me on this one and that's where I was coming at it from. I knew Oregon was a dumb decision because they don't even come close to offering what UK does if you're someone that is serious about becoming a basketball star. I didn't want to listen to any argument to the contrary regardless of whether we had zero point guards or 50. When the Oregon player "spilled the beans"-- or so I thought-- on twitter it just felt like one final gut punch and it totally fit the M.O. of the way things have been going for us, especially considering that there were twitter clues that indicated Diallo to Kansas before it happened that none of us wanted to believe. I knew if we struck out this time it was going to hurt more than the others because he was our last resort and to me he was always the missing piece for what could really be a dynamic starting line-up.
I was obviously very wrong in my comments and I apologize to Jamal Murray. It should also be noted that I was also one of the few that was advocating for us to change it up a bit, get Murray, and start 3 guards even when Brown was still a possibility while some solid posters that I usually agree with didn't think Murray would ever pick UK because there was just no way he'd agree to play alongside 2 other point guards. My thought was, as good as we've been under Cal, we needed to get more dynamic on offense and with our spacing, opening up the floor with more shooters and skilled basketball players, not just big athletes. That is the exact transformation that the NBA is undergoing right now, and it's where the college game will soon be headed as well. Positionless basketball with multiple skilled ball handlers and shooters on the court at the same time.
I was frustrated and just really fed up with this class, but I put it out there and now I've gotta eat it, and that's fine with me. I never have and never will run and hide.[/QUOTE/]
My dad always said that it says a lot about a man who will stand up and admit when he was wrong. I give you credit, you did just that. There are not a lot of posters on here that would have written that post. I respect you for it and all is good. Classy thing to do!
I agree with you 100% that Murray was the missing piece. I have thought that for some time now. I was back and forth on where I thought he would go. Kersey said UK and I was stoked as he is pretty reliable but then z71 (or z something) said it was for sure Oregon and everyone said he was definitely in the know. Matt Jones hadn't heard anything and he almost always does if there is any info out there. In the end, I don't really think anyone knew for sure but I just kept thinking about the fact that Murray was following UK players on twitter but not any Oregon players. That's what kept my hopes alive and boy did it pay off!!! Man!!!! We got the piece to the puzzle that we needed and I think we fit the mold of a great tournament type team with an amazing backcourt players. Not to mention Skal and Alex tearing up the post and allowing Alex to now play mostly at the PF spot where I know he will thrive.
Class act and kudos for manning up and admitting a mistake. Like I said, that is very rare around here and its good to see.
Man, I'm so damn excited about this team!!!
