Wanted to post these last night before hitting the sack but sleep overcame me.
I know I've written a lot about Benny Snell, but I'm also hearing several good things about A.J. Rose. Right now I believe the most likely scenario is that Snell plays and Rose redshirts. But a person told me that Rose is "going to be a great running back," and in terms of his ceiling he could be as good as any back Kentucky has on the roster. So take that for what it's worth. Still, I expect a redshirt unless the position's depth is really tested.
T.J. Carter has continued to impress. His frame was what first caught people's eye but he's turned out to be a really coachable player with a good motor. Right now the "want to" is ahead of the mastery of technique and consistency on the fundamentals, as you expect (and maybe even hope for), but he's got a very bright future. He should see snaps in Kentucky's first game.
What about Kordell Looney? I think he still can make an impact this year but I'm on the fence as to whether he'll play or redshirt. Apparently he's had a bit of a minor injury he's been nursing these past few days. I don't think that'll set him back too much, but that's one reason that you haven't heard his name mentioned as much recently. How he bounces back when he's 100-percent in the next few days' push will probably determine whether he has a shot to play in the first few games.
Hearing that J.D. Harmon is still dividing his time between nickel, corner and safety, so it looks like he'll enter the season with a strong forecast for playing time due to the simple fact that he could play so many positions.
Speaking of that nickel spot Tobias Gilliam is apparently working there and at safety -- could be wrong, but I did hear something about that. With McClain a senior and Kendall Randolph a junior, he's needed there for depth. I wouldn't expect him to play this year but a redshirt will probably help.
The coaches mentioned yesterday that one punter could boom it and another's a little better with placement. I believe Grant McKinniss is the one with the big leg and Bryan Kirshe may be the better placement guy. As far as punting style/technique I'm not sure. As of this point I have no clue which one is likely to see more opportunities this year, but they'll probably go into the season willing to try both out. Austin MacGinnis has looked good, apparently.
Tymere Dubose has made some nice plays in practice recently. I'm not sure how close he is or isn't to starting, but he apparently shows flashes ever so often.
