Eaglestaff De-Commits from South Carolina

if he hadn't officially signed I don't see how it would be. Kid isn't even on their campus yet. Just like High School recruits, they aren't off limits until they sign on that dotted line.

Actually never understood the term "dotted line" most signature lines are solid. LOL.
Anymore it doesn't seem they are off limits even when they're signed. It seems a coach has to recruit year round to keep a team intact.

Hmm this is weird. Would it be interference or tampering if Pope was on the phone with him when Wilkerson picked Indiana? I’m not saying pope did reach out, I’m asking if he did, would it be tampering?
Yes. That would technically still be considered illegal tampering.

But I’m not sure anyone cares nowadays. This is CBB’s lawless Wild West era.

Off topic but does Nico wind up getting less now than what he got at UT which was reportedly around $2.5mill.
I thought I saw some little University was looking at him and If that is true I would probably say less. He's damaged goods now sounds like a lot of schools don't want to touch that with a 10' pole.

I'll leave this here.

I think players should get one bite of the apple. If they agree to a figure and sign, they should not be able to get out of the contract until their playing season is over. You agree to offer services, we agree to pay you, you’ve signed, you’re stuck. Sorry. It really puts a program in a bind.

I thought he was a little arrogant two years ago when they were successful. Humbled this past year. He might be back to selling junk with Red Foxx if he doesn't turn things around this coming year.
and he will. He caught lightning in a bottle a couple of years ago. Paris is not a good coach.
Coincidentally, the same thing happened with Shane Beamer. He is the worst football coach in the SEC and got on a roll last season.
I look for both South Carolina coaches to lose big next season.

Don't even get me started on Beamer. Football forum fodder but that guy is so cringe and transparent.

This is one reason I never really follow this transfer portal garbage. I peek in here and look at the committed posts and the hot "he's about to commit", but their indecisiveness is absurd. You commit to a school, you stick with that decision. If you're not sure, you don't commit and wait until you are sure. I can see agents and even rogue opposing team plants setting these up as a way to screw over a team's roster planning - commit, get the school to believe they're done, then blow out of there leaving a hole in the roster - sabotage complete.

Something needs to be done about the transfer portal and NIL - there need to be limitations and restrictions once you've committed as well as # of transfers allowed.
agree, but not going to happen
free agency has taken over
these players are semi-pro now & follow the bouncing $

Kam Williams is rated about the same or higher by most of the portal sites.

If Pope can get him on the cheap, I’m good with that, but I bet Williams, Chandler, or Johnson start over this guy.

He would be a good reserve, IMHO.

No doubt about it. #1 the NIL contract should be binding. If you want out after signing then you must wait a year to get paid again. #2 limit the number of times you can enter the portal without sitting out a year.

Everyone on the team needs to be able to play defense. And this guy shot sub 40% from the field including sub 40% from 2 in the Summit League.
Defense and that is definitely a concern but they rate him fairly high in the portal so he must be pretty decent. I think he may have been the only scorer on his team. Much like Lowe maybe his percentages suck due to a lot of defensive attention and bad shots they had to force.

If we get anyone else, I would think it’s in a reserve role unless Jackson from unc is still a possibility. I can’t think of anyone else that would come in and start, maybe the wash st kid but not sure where we stand in regards to him.

In the past, contracts and agreements were often written on paper with a dotted line indicating where the signature should be placed.

Why? He would be great in the Brea role.
LOL, except he is half the shooter Brea was.

Kid made like 36% of his 3's. Take away just 2 (monster) games and he was more like 34%. Yes he would occasionally blow up (40 & 50 pt games), but then the 3-4 games around those he would average in single digits and go something like a combined 1-10 from 3.

I hope he winds up at Appalachian State for 500K per year because no P5 school will touch him. It might set the tone for others who try to hold schools hostage.
ON3 just said that he was entering the portal with a DO NOT CONTACT tag. I agree with your take.

Lamont butler entered portal April 25th

Our shooter isn’t even in the portal yet Imo. Unless Jackson is a surprise.
