Eaglestaff De-Commits from South Carolina

LOL, except he is half the shooter Brea was.

Kid made like 36% of his 3's. Take away just 2 (monster) games and he was more like 34%. Yes he would occasionally blow up (40 & 50 pt games), but then the 3-4 games around those he would average in single digits and go something like a combined 1-10 from 3.
You’re underselling his potential fit in Pope’s offense. He was asked to be the primary ball handling option at his former school. He would have better looks here and one would think his percentage would improve.

This may be slightly off topic, but it parallels the theme of this de-commitment.

At what time does a commitment become legally binding to the point damages could be incurred if either party breaks the commitment?

I know the good ol days of a man’s word is his bond, or a handshake actually means something….but what instrument is actually in place when a portal transfer “commits”?

To be fair he doesn’t know squat about UK like any other insider now. That said if he is confident in saying that he probably knows from whatever school made this happen.
Right. Folks are somewhat understandably lumping all "insiders" into the same bucket right now, but they aren't all the same. As of today, Trilly is batting 333 for 344, which is right at 96%. But he clearly doesn't have an in with UK (and in fact 2 of his misses were UK picks, making UK fans in particular skeptical of him). So his information - that he's likely headed to a different school - is coming from that school and not Kentucky.

Did the check not clear for him?
My bet is he wanted Kentucky… we asked him to wait while we pursued some guys higher on our board (Pierre, Yates, Wilkerson) and he didn’t want to miss out on other opportunities while waiting and assumed we’d get one of those.

Wouldn’t surprise me at all if this isn’t a coincidence.

It would be portal suicide if a school used legal
powers to go after a player that decommits.

You can say this about Wilkerson, IMO
Yeah, that might be why he went to IU and said he wouldn’t get as many shots at UK. Pope might have told him he wouldn’t necessarily start.

Eaglestaff is in the same situation.

According to 247 sports, Kam Williams is better than both. Williams is #39, Wilkerson is #42, and Eaglestaff is #67.

40 on Bama is all I need to know. He can play in the league. Especially under Pope. Lamont went from a 30% shooter to a 39%. If you watch Eaglestaffs highlights dude takes some extremely tough shots (Which is what we lacked this year. A guy able to get his own when everything breaks down.) Under Pope's offense I guarantee he'd thrive. Defense is the only concern. But he's 6'6 so he has the tools.

That’s a pretty lame thing to say to a recruit who you’re offering 1.9 mil to. He went to iu because of what he said. He wants to be the man ie he wanted the man money. It was always about the $$$$ with Wilkerson. If it’s down to uk and iu I mean if a player is that far into iu and we want the guy. Be prepared to pay more

Defense is a major concern and getting to the rim. I’m fine taking this guy for depth but he puts a ceiling on our team for anything more

I’m excited about Kam! I think he’ll be really good for us.

We don’t know how much money was offered. It’s all speculative.

And I wonder how Pope (and other coaches) is handling the whole situation. Are coaches now promising starting spots because of how much NIL we are handing out?

So much for, “Come in and earn a spot.”

But I guess in this NIL/Portal Age with a paid/pro system you do kind of promise spots now.

agree
kind of funny people are saying the point guard from pitt will improve his shooting, but this kid wouldn't
wow, what double standards

Any kid that gets in the gym and works on their craft can and usually will improve. Takes dedication and getting up lots of shots every day.

This dude doesn’t move the needle. There is a reason there was very minimal contact. The first time he was in the portal

if he hadn't officially signed I don't see how it would be. Kid isn't even on their campus yet. Just like High School recruits, they aren't off limits until they sign on that dotted line.

Actually never understood the term "dotted line" most signature lines are solid. LOL.
There was an incident (or will be depending on your perspective) involving a time machine, a very small loan from a fastidious enlightenment era shipping clerk, a dot matrix printer obtained from a prior escapade, and a staggering amount of rather cheap Scotch that really wasn't worth the risks of cleaning up the timeline over because this weird little hiccup was the only impact.

If we get anyone else, I would think it’s in a reserve role unless Jackson from unc is still a possibility. I can’t think of anyone else that would come in and start, maybe the wash st kid but not sure where we stand in regards to him.
If we don’t land a great shooter to start at SG then we can forget being a title contender.

If this doesn’t change, I’m gonna push my daughter to learn to be a lawyer and focus on NIL, these agents are gonna clean up. Making a ton of money.
I’m an attorney and I am looking to get into the field. It’s lucrative and you get a percentage of the NIL money as you rep them. I’m curious as to whether attorneys for these kids are pushing them to specific schools. But yes attorneys get a percentage of their contract.
