Is he too young and inexperienced to become OL coach? Very intelligent and seems wise beyond his years.

Or o line is really bad, we should hire the inexperienced guy helping coach them to take over

No idea what seasoning it will take, 2 years...3..4? One of the positives would be that he will stick around, Continuity would be a great thing for developing the young guys and bringing them along. This unit is on their third coach in three years, that sucks for them and their development.

Going back a while about 4 years the O line has had a lot of transition. Our beloved Coach Schlarman dealing with cancer, his death, hiring his replacement, the replacement leaving for Bama after one year. Then hiring Coach Yenser. Evidently the uncertaintity over this time has affected the quality of OL recruits. Maybe that's why we have seen infrequent rotation the last year and this year. It's very evident their not pleased with the depth because of attempts to hit the portal. Hopefully a couple of the youngersters will surprise us and develop soon.

Stoops talked about that today. Called the unit thin, brought up some of the things in your posts as to why they are thin.

What built the big blue wall were mainly three things, in this order:

1) Eddie Gran. Yes we all love schlarman but schlarman came with brown and we couldn't run the ball to save our life, with the exception of JoJo VA south Carolina running wildcat. Gran brought something extra with him. Maybe it was the way he coached the backs, maybe it was a mentality, maybe it was something else - but we immediately shifted into a physically dominant line once injury forced us into that offense. We never looked back during his tenure.

2) schlarman. Nothing more needs said.

3) home grown talent. Guys like drake Jackson, Landon young, Austin Dotson and others. That was a huge boost to recruiting and performance.

Eddie Gran got an awful rap for basically being a victim of his own success and for being too loyal to hinshaw who certainly didn't deserve it. We need him back in the fold. Settle is basically a zero, so I think we should put Gran there and let him start building synergy with Drake as OL coach.

Recruiting success on the line dropped off about 4 years ago. I don't remember if we struck out or misevaluated. No center. No left tackle. Some guys never contributed at all.

Also, contrary to popular belief, the rotation of players on the line did not exist the last couple of years. That was a product of Good young players over a brief time.

But we had to go to the portal last year for a left tackle and move Fortner to center, no replacement for Kinnard if he went pro. This has been building for awhile. There appears to be some young talent so it will end in two years

Graduate assistants are basic helpers who follow the lead of the position coach. To rephrase that, just because Yenser is terrible doesn't mean Drake would be. In fact Drake was known for his football IQ and instantly changed the quality of our line the first game he started. He's young and inexperienced but its a thought at least.

And if he needs an extra title to pay him more money, make him the run game coordinator as well. He can recruit too, if EG is interested in such a role, I think it would help a lot with the team.

I mean this has been building for a while tbh. We had to go to the portal for a Tackle last year too and this year we had to get manning and prolly should Have got a couple more. We’ve just missed in recruiting. It’s really that simple
