Dr Seuss cancelled in Virginia

“Realizing that many schools continue to celebrate ‘Read Across America Day’ in partial recognition of Dr. Seuss’ birthday, it is important for us to be cognizant of research that may challenge our practice in this regard," Loudoun County Schools said in an announcement reported by the Daily Wire.”

As we become more culturally responsive and racially conscious, all building leaders should know that in recent years there has been research revealing radical undertones in the books written and the illustrations drawn by Dr. Seuss," the school district continued.

Learning for Justice, a liberal education advocacy group, was reportedly behind the pressure campaign against the celebrated children's author. The organization pegs itself as a group that seeks "to uphold the mission" of the left-wing Southern Poverty Law Center, according to their website.

Learning for Justice cited a study by St. Catherine University that claimed Dr. Seuss’s books are covered with "orientalism, anti-Blackness and White supremacy" in a magazine article they released.

The group also claimed that the characters who were not White in the books were "subservient" to White characters.

This isn’t the first time that Dr. Seuss has been targeted for cancellation.

Former first lady Melania Trump fired back at a Massachusetts elementary school librarian in 2017 who claimed the illustrations in Dr. Seuss’s books — usually cartoon animals or fantastical creatures — were examples of "racist propaganda."

I think we should just shut the country down for a bit, rewrite a new constitution or manifesto and split the country between a republic and a socialist guideline. Evenly distribute the states and have a president and vice president for the republic and a social leader for the socialist country. Agree to do business with each other to keep essentials of life common for all. No bailouts from either side and no citizenship awarded to any that wish to cross the borders until they have proven their loyalty to the system they now choose (allowing for those who have seen the light to change sides). If you wish to work in a state that has a different leadership than you, you will need a work visa and will be charged a fee to do so.

Pretty crazy that the stories of one author, which couldn't have been any more positive, inclusive and guiding.. are coming under fire.

Id ask "what's next?".. but there is nothing next.. this was the end. It was the last possible thing you'd think the Left would go after. Its a good thing Mr Roger's is dead. That sweater-wearing old white man, promoting nationalism with his "neighborhoods", would have been next.

It ain't the end....just the beginning.

First they came for the Dr. Seuss, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a racist children’s book author.

Then they came for the Telletubbies, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a gay fluffy TV thing.

Then they came for the Bugs Bunny when he wears a dress and looked kind of hot, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a furry.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Star-Bellied Sneetches had Bellies with Stars. But Plain-Bellied Sneetches had none upon thars...
The Starr-Bellied Sneetches say, "We're the best Sneetches on the Beaches!"

If you can't see blatant and hurtful racism there, you must have skipped all your college sociology and humanities classes. How'd you like to be a Plain-Bellied Sneetch and try to raise you Little Sneetch to believe he was as good as any Sneetches on the Beaches?

Good for the mule-faced old maid librarian with the PhD in Women's Studies, and the close gal-pal friend in the sensible Doc Martens boots and the Subaru Forester who finally blew the whistle on this!

I spot a new buzzword. I can't even imagine what nonsense this word is supposed to mean. And no, no way will I Google it. I can only imagine the type of seo marketing I'd get afterwards. No thanks.

Virginia will be the first state to change its name because it doesn't want to be associated with the Virgin Mary. Washington won't be too far behind.

we should rename all the states because the names came from native american languages and we stole it. I’m getting really woke now.

Thanks. Pretty literal so not as bad as I thought. I really expected something about race orientation or something crazy.

Like, seriously? Why not just make children’s books that reflect the current reality? How does deciding things already written/decided/whatever need to retroactively be destroyed benefit society? We realize culture constantly changes. It seems illogical to cancel old literature because it reflects a time we no longer live in.

It’s a religion, and a most divisive and destructive one with no redeeming qualities. Keep voting for this regressive shit, you idiots. You own it, and it’s going to get harder for you to laugh it off and justify.
Funny you mention religion. It's all silly, no doubt, but we all had to deal with the religious right doing this cancel/want to ban stuff for a generation. Now the other side is doing it. Hopefully, the people pissed about goofy stuff like this were pissed when the extreme right was doing it for decades. This is why people say both parties are the same. The extreme sides have basically switched roles. Weird to see.

Unfortunately the way I see it is this is the end result of creating so many phony and useless college majors to get more money for the universities. An unintended consequence of capitalism I suppose - ironically creating anti-capitalists. Either way I read up on pup to my son before nap time today and he seemed to enjoy it. Involved parents will be the savior of this country.

Taken far too soon. Farewell my King of Kings. May you drift onto a higher plain/plane and may your lightning strikes be true...
