Donovan Dent enters portal

they never have
there is a huge difference between the requirements a regular student needs to get into duke vs what an athlete needs
every conference and every school has much lower requirements for athletes
Not to get on my soapbox, but this was the "slippery slope" so to speak that ended up killing college sports. Respect to the few programs that actually keep there standards for all students.

Whatever. I say this as someone with 3 degrees from UK -- I don't want to hear any BS about academic standards for athletes. If they can make the minimum needed for admission, stick them in some sociology program or other area where the standards are low for every student.

Big question from this one is how would Dent to UK impact Jasper and Acaden. Would Acaden be okay coming off the bench/splitting time with Dent? Would we go smaller and play Acaden/Dent/Jasper together some minutes?
Thats a good question, Duke is the only school that doesn't have to worry about players that are concerned about playing time. There is always more all Americans waiting to get in line if someone gets cold feet, must be a good problem to have. Most other schools have to deal with players concerned about playing time and who else they are recruiting that play the same position.

This is basketball, not some southern frat where everyone has some made up bougie name like Kayden. Consider me highly suspicious of a guy named "Treysen Eaglestaff".

NOPE!

That is the whole point though, many of them could not meet the minimum needed for admission which is why the athletes have a lower standard in the first place. In one sentence you say you don't want to hear about standards and then in your very next sentence you say as long as they meet this standard....

Duke lost 7 players to the portal last year including 2 starters.

^I'd be thrilled with either. Dent looks quicker and more explosive to my eye, but probably considerably more expensive too. And since we're essentially in a salary cap era it might not be a bad thing to use the extra money elsewhere if we ended up with Thomas. Either would be home runs though.

Give me Dent and the bucket from Sam Houston. We would be lethal in the back court. Kid is being labeled the next Chaz Lanier. Lamar Wilkerson is 6-5 210 pounds (same size as Oweh).
20.5 ppg / 45% 3FG on 7.7 per game taken / 51% of 2FG on 7.3 taken per game. 82% free throw shooter. ALL shooting stats are elite.
4 rebounds per game / 2.1 assist / 1.1 steals.
Scored at least double digits in every game.
Some game results from 3
3/4 , 5/12, 6/10, 4/5, 4/8, 8/13, 4/6, 5/7, 4/8, 6/9, 5/6, 5/9, 7/10. Was 109/245 overall in 32 games. That works out to 3.4 MAKES per game.

Dent and Wilkerson would be a combined 41 ppg average from last year. Throw in Oweh at the 3, you have a very talented 1-3. Would need some size at the 4/5 spots, but todays college basketball having 6-3 / 6-4 / 6-5 is not real small.

Dent & Gwath would be the perfect start from the portal
then add a couple of shooters and a big scoring forward
If UK lands Dent, they're an instant top 3 team and Final Four contender.

That would give UK two potential first-team All-Americans in Dent and Oweh. Plus, UK already has one of the better complimentary pieces in the nation in Jasper Johnson. If that kid is UK's fourth option next year, we're going to be very, very good.

Just need another big or two to go with BG.

Maybe the Davidson kid from Nevada.

G Dent
G Johnson
G Oweh
F Davidson
F Garrison

That’s a capable starting five. Backed up with Chandler, Lewis, Moreno, Noah, and Perry. Might want to add another wing or two and another big man or two to provide a little more depth. That would be a top notch roster, IMHO.

Pope did say several weeks ago that he wanted 'two superstars' from the portal. Those two guys fit that wish.

I know there are still going to be some great players enter the portal but Dent and Gwath couldn’t fit any better. We reached out to both immediately let’s just hope the interest goes both ways. The talent level is gonna take a big jump from year 1 to year 2 like everyone thought it would. Lots of competition for a top pg right now with Kansas, Florida, UNC, Gonzaga, Tn at the very least so getting Dent or Thomas early would be huge.
I am with you on this, get Dent and Gawth and fill in the rest with the best players that UK can get. I hope that when all is said and done UK has the higjest ranked portal class.
