Today is day one of the portal signings. Is being in the Sweet 16 an advantage or disadvantage related to recruiting out of the portal?

I choose to think it’s good advertisement of Pope’s system and will help in recruiting. But there’a no doubt the staff won’t be able to focus on portal just yet.

there’s no good reason that the NCAA doesn’t delay it until April.

The one reason that I can actually envision as to why it's open today is to give the teams that didn't make the tournament or have already been bounced a bit of a head start to help them improve for next year. Kind of like how the worst pro teams get to pick first in the draft.

But I do wish our fans could self control themselves not to smother the board with portal posts when our current team is still alive and fighting in the tourney. In some ways, I view that as disrespectful to our current players.

I would say advantage. S16 means more exposure. Sure we aren't going to get any commitments yet, but that doesn't mean we can't message/call guys and simply say:
"We are very interested in you being a Wildcat next year, and becoming part of the family of players that is celebrated by fans more than any other. Kentucky is the blueist of Blue-Bloods, the winningest program in history. And thus as you can imagine your NIL opportunities at Kentucky are 2nd to none. But as I'm sure you are aware, we are still playing as one of the top 16 teams, but would love to discuss your future as a possible Wildcat as soon as we finish playing."
