Donovan Dent enters portal

Are some of these 4,500 portal entries also going to be like Jaxson Robinson last year in that they’ll be in the draft so it’ll be months before we find out? And this guy will only have 1 year of eligibility right? Does it make more sense to go after, say, the UNLV PG that will have two years left or do we not care as much because Acaden Lewis will be our long term plan? So many questions!

Dent looks much stronger than Thomas. If he is a great defender he might be the top option for us.
According to an NBA scouting report I read, Dent was knocked for his lack of consistent defensive effort and turnovers due a lot to forcing difficult shots around the rim. Now there were plenty of positives too, and nobody disputes that he's a really good player. But I did see him dinged for defensive effort - which is different from defensive ability.

All ya'll spouting off NIL numbers...post a link. Also, this is NOT last year. Show interest in good players but don't sign anyone other that TOP TIER talent until we know who's in the portal and who is not. We can all claim to know why players will stay or go but frankly, if I was a college player, I'd put my name in the portal and test the waters...even if I sucked. There is no reason not to. I get all the team loyalty crap but it's just that until they commit to come back. Until then, it's mostly about the money. Ther very well may be absolute top tier talent in this portal. Nope, I don't like it a bit, the way it is now...but it is what it is, until rules are changed with NIL. Either way, until NIL money to individual players is made public, I don't believe any numbers spouted, by anybody. Their salary is just as public/private as YOUR salary.

Just read that Dent is one of the fastest guards in the nation with the ball in his hands. Very quick to get to the rim and has a great vision in making passes. Said to be the first 'superstar' to enter the portal. Suggested would probably need to pay at least 1 million plus to get him. Let's go ahead and get Dent, Dix and Eaglestaff in the fold and go from there.

Yes to Dent!
Maybe to Dix.
NO to Eaglestaff (unless to be 9th-10th guy)

1M is not enough

Plenty programs will pay at least 2M...

He is AA level player...

I watched him casually play against Michigan St he didn’t impress me in that game.
On a OFF night, he still got 14/2/6, 0 3s attempted. But then again, he doesn't shoot a lot of 3s. (1.9 attempts per game)

Against Marquette he had 21/3/6 and 2 blocks.

His 1.4 steals per game and 1 block per game shows he plays defense. And he gets to line A LOT. Averages 6.5 free throws per game taken, shoots over 78%. Attempts 13 2FG per game, shooting 50% on 2's, 41% on 3FGs on low volume attempts.

Games of note :
UCLA - 17 points / 8 assist
St. Johns - 12/3/6 1 steal / 1 block
VCU - 40/5/4
Colorado State - 19/6/4 / 2 steals / 1 block / 14/2/6 / 1 steal
USC - 17/6/11
Arizona State - 30/1/7
Fresno State - 20/4/9 / 2 steals / 1 block / 18/5/6 5 steals / 2 blocks
Nevada - 33/2/7 2 steals / 20 / 6 assist
Wyoming - 22/3/6 2 steals / 20/6/7 3 steals 1 block
UNLV - 30/2/4 2 steals
Boise State - 17/3/11 2 blocks / 16/1/7 1 steal
Utah State - 23/3/3 2 steals/ 3 blocks / 14/4/6 2 steals / 1 block
SD State - 26 points / 7 assist

Conf. tourney
San Jose St - 25/2/5 1 steal / 2 blocks
Boise State - 23/2/5
Notice the multiple games with multiple steals and blocks. 5 steals a game, had 3 blocks in a game. New Mexico had 3 other players average dd in points, 14.2, 11.1, 11.1. Another averaged 8 ppg. He was not a 1 man show he plays within the game, he is a shot taker, no doubt, but he hits at 50% from 2 (bulk of his shoots) and shoots 6.5 ft's per game.

Well he averages almost 1.5 steals per game and 1 block per game. I posted SOME of his games above. he had multiple games with 3/4 steals, 2/3 blocks. You have to play SOME defense to post the steals and block totals he does. had 5 steals in ONE game, and had 3 blocks in a game.
