Don’t care for “ physicality” of the game

Age showing but I enjoyed the freedom of movement and actually seeing space between defender and offensive player.

Cringe when I hear basketball coaches saying we need to be more physical or we need to fight.

It’s a wrestling match anymore in the front court.
It has almost become similar to watching a pick up game at the park. Plus the officials never make the same call twice on the same play.

It has almost become unwatchable.
I have a slightly different take. I LOVE physical play. The rougher the better and I want players who crave contact. It’s not the physicality that makes the games unwatchable. It’s all the foul calls that makes it unwatchable. Let them play!

So when guys are setting screens like a blocker in football..you think that is good ?

Or a rebound becomes two wrestlers grabbing one another?

I enjoy physical basketball. Don’t mind bodying up and hand checking or guys finishing through contact but that’s not what we see. It’s guys out of legal guarding position holding and grabbing. Then when a guy is guarding well, the offensive player drives straight into them, snaps their head back and gets a foul call.

Same. I hate all the loosening of the rules and then the same ppl complain tons about inconsistency. I hate how almost every screen is a moving screen. I hate the hand check and ride the offensive player era. I hate the constant carries in the name of “handles”. I hate how “1 step and a half” turned into 3 steps somehow bc 2 steps was insinuated due to the gather step being the half step…and then ppl said “2 steps” long enough that it became “2 steps and a gather….so 3”.

A lot of the finesse and beauty of the game would come back by just enforcing the rules as written

Moving screens should be enforced. Hard screens are just part of the game. On the rebounding thing, hell yeah I want physicality allowed. I think as long as the players are going for the ball they should be allowed to be as physical as they want.

I’d hate to see this sport call even more fouls as the entire product seems to be nothing but free throws and threes.
If they allow a physical game then free throws become a premium. They can be the difference in the game and now when a guy goes to the line it has meaning and its impactful.

I don’t like the pussification of the game and that’s where we are now. So call say 20 percent less fouls and let it be the norm and it will train fans to stop crying so much about the whistle. The games will last no more than 1:45. It’s a win win.

Bring back the hand checking and prewwing would come back in style or have 15 players and run teams into the ground.

I like physical play. What I don’t like is an inconsistent whistle. If it’s allowed on one end, it should be allowed at the other. If it’s allowed in the first 4 minutes, it should be allowed in the next 36 minutes. If it’s allowed in January, it should be allowed in Feb and March.
Now there are some things that should never be allowed: Pushing an airborne player in the back should never be allowed. Hitting the shooting hand of a shooter while shooting is always a foul. Grabbing a player should never be allowed. There are other obvious things that should never be allowed.
However, hand checking, body bumps, etc just need to be called consistently. Not just consistent at both ends, but game to game.

It's been a little while since I played any pick-up games at the park but when I did you couldn't get away with what is let go in college basketball with three officials on the court.
I've been saying for a while that I believe it would be better as a "call your own" on the honor system than what we've been seeing. Physical play is fine to a point as long as it's the same for both teams.

Agree 100%.

It doesn't help, either, with all the flopping going on. Ragdolls flying every which way on the court. That makes it look even more physical than it already is. Call the damn flops TECHNICAL FOULS. And then you have teams relying more and more and more on freshman, who mostly would scream if they got introduced to a weight room. And like others here have said, refs are just so inconsistent.

Wait until NCAA and the Refs do not allow physical play. SEC will be in trouble without thug ball

There is no pussification of the game today. It’s a horrible game to watch as the ncaa has changed the rules and ruined the purity of the game. It’s basically football on a basketball court. You are the only person I have seen that wants the game to be rougher. Very odd.

I don't mind either way, I just want the damn officials to quit calling phantom fouls. Just let them play. And be consistent.
