Do you think Diallo can be more explosive then Monk was ?

He absolutely can be more explosive as he's taller and known to be great at driving to the basket while monk was good at it he settled for the outside shot at the time which was fine because he could hit the outside shot or jumper. If diallo can hit half of his shots from the outside we can be a different team. Btw, what pack of wolves raised some of y'all? All above posters need a time out of not having the decent courtesy to ask smooth how he's been. How ya been smooth?
Lol I'm good and you man?

Explosiveness is a bit overrated, I was 5'9" with a pass first kind of mind. But you give me room, I'd hit a driving fade away jumper on the move 6/10 times (10 feet). But again, I was 5'9 and never considered explosive. Ha

We have size. Scorers are just that. We will be fine. Those that know the game know we will be fine...explosive or not. Again, I was NOT explosive...could barely dunk a volleyball on my best day. But I could stay in front of most on defense!
Where did you play ?

King of NY will be mashing baskets and destroying 2G in his way. He's a monster and like Brisco will let you know about it too. Can't wait for HIS take off. Buckle up

For me, he doesn't need to be more explosive. I'd be pretty happy with more consistent. Monk would have a great half, then disappear for a while. Yes, he had some fantastic performances, no doubt.

Diallo definitely the more athletic of the two, which says a lot.

Monk probably one of the most explosive scorers we'll ever have.

This group of players have tremendous potential, however I think it will be late December early January before coach knows how good this team can and will be!

Diallo will definitely be more athletic and explosive. Reports are that Diallo was the most athletic player measured that was draft eligible this year. Diallo is just bigger and stronger and just as explosive.

Monk was very unique is the way he could pull up on a dime, fully elevate, and shoot. That sounds simple, but Monk has one of the best pull up jump shots I have ever seen. This ability to get his shot off on top of being a good (and streaky) shooter made him a great scorer.

Overall, I think Diallo will be more athletic and a better defender but not as good of scorer

Athletically, absolutely. His measurables are ridiculous.
Offensively, I doubt it. When Monk got hot, he was napalm. I've never seen anything like it in the college game.

It's fun to speculate and hope, but Diallo hasn't played one minute and to put all these expectations based upon nothing seems silly. It is like another post where someone was saying Richards was going to be a top 10 draft pick next year. Based upon what? We could have said the same and perhaps with more reliable belief about SKJ this time last year. He certainly showed more NBA type skills and quickness than Richards did in any of the all-star games.

My expectation is that by volume (and hopefully Cal coaches that way) I don't see any team with the complete roster of talent our team has. Will Diallo be that leader? Maybe, but dunking is great on fast breaks but doesn't mean that much in college otherwise. The only thing that I read was how his defense turned heads during the practices. If that is the case he will be a starter because by now, it is clear that is where Cal focuses his decisions on a kid playing or not.
okay how you been

Monk is slowly starting to be on right my fav players ever - it not - at least def of the cal era along with cousins , wall, Bledsoe , Davis, MGK, ulis , hawkins (kinda )

In some ways, yeah, Diallo will be as explosive, if not more. If you're talking about being able to score the ball from deep in spurts, then no, Diallo won't be as explosive. As high as Monk could get up there, Diallo can get higher. If Diallo had the jump shot Monk showed during his freshman season at Kentucky, I think it's safe to say we would never get to see Diallo suit up for this upcoming season. When some say explosive, it can mean something totally different than what others think. Diallo will not be able to pull up from deep and bury deep shots with two guys on him. Diallo will score in different ways than Monk. The fact that Monk could shoot from anywhere on the court might have actually limited his overall skillset. Why drive the ball if you can shoot from anywhere? We really didn't get to see much of Monk's playmaking like some of us expected. Sometimes when you're known for something, it is what you do most, even if you're capable of so much more.

Where did you play ?

Mason County (1981)…but did NOT play. In High School, I was only an average player IMHO. Played pickup with a lot of “the” players, but lived way out in the boonies and did not have a support system to get me to and from practice…it is what it was.

Shortly after graduation, I got into a lot of league play. Lots of military and city stuff. I think this is where my game developed a lot. Got to play against Wichita State one year…what a hoot that was. Ended up losing the city championship by 4 points that year. But I was a pure point guard that understood passing lanes and developed a pretty dependable 20 footer. 15 feet and in and I had my moments…fade away was money.

All in all pretty solid…you probably wanted me on your team. But I was not going to drop 30. Averaged around 15 in league play.
