Do You Ever Go To College Games With No Rooting Interest?

I was invited to go to a UL game against UNC next month. Since I don't like either team and I can't hope for the Yum Center to fall into a giant sink hole during the game if I am there, I will just remain neutral. I have never been in the Yum Center so it will nice to see it in person. My mom and brother are UL fans (what are you going to do?) and that is who I will be going with. They said no blue though, which might be a good thing if I run into drunk UL fans. I will make sure to wear blue under something non sports related. This will be my second non UK game to attend. Do any of you like to go watch other team's play in person?

I go watch Georgetown play. They have talented kids for that level. I still support my high school team and I am 62.

My best friend is a Card fan and he took me to a Looserville game in both basketball and football. I can tell you that I won't go back there again. To much red and I sat there steaming the whole time.

I went to a regional finals game here in StL at the Dome and I think it was Michigan State vs. a Pearl coached UT team...I really didn't care which team won but it was fun to watch.

Spent two years in San Luis Obispo on a job and went to quite a few Cal Poly games. Now my old man is coaching softball at Bellarmine so we go to a lot of games over there. Hell, if I'm not doing anything else I'll pretty much watch any kind of basketball from peewee to pro.

Dude screw it wear a UK shirt openly. Do you understand the legendary status you would garner from us (or maybe just me)? (Pic proof of course)

When I'm watching a game between two teams I hate, I like to 'cheer' for the visitors. It's fun to watch the home crowd suffer.

Just to be on the safe side, wear a condom and don't pull it out for any reason.

Yes. DU built an new arena a few years ago. Only 7,500 in capacity, but a really nice, comfortable place. I and a friend will usually catch a game or two there. It's a lot of fun, and fairly cheap. The teams are at a lower level, but still often competitive, and I could care less who wins. It's also right in the middle of Denver so there's plenty of other things to do before or after. Some of the smaller school arena's and stadiums can be great. I'm sure, WKU, Morehead, etc. can provide the same experience, but a new, 21st century venue is really cool. And I'll usually go to a CU game or two. Again I could care less unless maybe they are playing KU, UCLA, or Arizona. Even then though I don't really care. That same friend is a long time season ticket holder with 2nd row, great seats.

A few times, not many. It is less stressful.

The one SEC-T I went to (when I was in Grad-school at UK in 93 & it was in Lexington) I went to all 11 games (I think).
I've been to a couple of NC St games (one vs Duke, and one vs some mid-major I think an NIT game).
And I've been to a UNC game (vs some no-name school).

I'm actually going over to Dayton tonight for their game against George Washington (I live in Columbus).

I'll pull for Dayton, but I have no strong rooting interests.

I just like seeing good college basketball and they say UD Arena is one of those every college basketball fan needs to see at some point. I look forward to it. It's a huge game in the A10 race.

When Murray State played in racer arena I never missed a home game and usually went to Clarksville to see them play APSU down there 60 miles away, when they moved to new arena you can count the games I have attended on my right hand and that has been several years and MSU has had some great teams. I started going to Rupp in the 80s as my grade school principal and coach was elected as a representative and every year he would give me picking choice of the game I wanted to attend and now I have grandkids and we usually catch 5 home games and 1 road game a year plus SEC Tournament and all the Final Fours under Cal and its 275 miles to Rupp. Once you go to Rupp iits very hard to get excited about anything else.

I've been to a few Iowa basketball and football games. I usually pull for the visitor, but not too openly. I don't need thousands of drunk Iowa fans pissed at me. Plus, during football season, I know a few places where I can go tailgate. Free beer.

The old racer arena was awesome.! I remember the deteri Mayes squad Murray had two of the top scorers in the country that season. That place was rocking ! The old wooden bleachers felt like they were going to collapse. Lol.

Oh yes, the day after the great WVU chokejob by UK. I admire you for being able to give a crap about basketball or life in general (kidding...I think lol) to leave the house to watch that the next day in person.

Good memory! I'll admit, it wasn't easy. Our seats were about 10 rows up behind the MSU bench.

I've been to a few WKU games recently (including the Louisville game last year when Trez started throwing punches). They can be a lot of fun, but I guess it's not really a game with "no rooting interest" since I pull for WKU. Lol

Absolutely.

I try to go see Pitt play once or twice a year. Although I would rather than win than lose, I don't have any emotional attachment to the team.

If possible, I try to go see them play teams I hate -- Duke, UNC, UL. That always makes it more exciting for me.

Man, I don't think I could survive going to a Louisville home game vs UNC, talk about hell haha. I've been to the NCAAT games at the yum, and attended both sessions of games. It's always fun to watch two teams you have no interest going at it. The games can be a bit more enjoyable when you have no vested interest in who wins.

I often find myself starting to watch a game (that doesn't involve Kentucky, or one of our rivals) with no interest, but if the game comes down to the last shot I pull for the buzzer beater.

A lot of my friends are UL fans i grew up with. Ive been to a handful of UL basketball games (i wear a plain black shirt to blend In but clearly dont cheer). Ive been to probably 4-5 OOC games over the years and a few games against old Big East opponents like the Mcnamara or devendorf Syracuse days. a game against Pitt and probably another sprinkled in.

Im one of those fans who could care less about UL outside of when we play them. Idc if they win or lose ever. I just enjoy basketball... But its nice to see them lose to quality teams especially.

I was lucky enough to attend every SEC tourney from 92-2000 as a kid/teenager.

Mom was a basketball junkie and she and I would go to every session while pops and his buddies would drink until it was time for the UK game. I loved being neutral and watching a random LSU/UGA or Miss. St./Vandy game on Thursday night. We did openly root against Arkansas (main SEC rival most of that time) and Tennessee because they're Tennessee.

Actually going to Clemson vs. Miami tomorrow here in Greenville. Been a nice time having them playing downtown.

I consider myself to have adopted Clemson as a second favorite team, though.

saw several games at the old Racer arena when Marcus Brown was Racer. He and Mayes were on the same team for one, maybe two, seasons. Brown was such a superb player. One of the best basketball players to play in the Commonwealth for ANY college, EVER. A very Westbrook type player. Faded out of the NBA but if I'm not mistaken he's the #2 all-time scorer in Euro, making him the most successful American to play in Europe. Yeah, that placed rocked.

I remember seeing Dick Cunningham play at Murray State he was 6 foot 10 and in those days that was nearly unheard of I think he went on and backed up Lew Alcindor for Milwaukee Bucks a few years, then you had the great Claude Virden Hector Blondett team that beat Westen at Murray 77-75 the year Western beat UK on the way to final four I believe 107-83 when Stan Key who is from Calloway Co played at UK made me sick but they had 7 foot Jim McDaniels, Jerry Dunn, Clarence Glover who was 6 foot 8 and Rex Bailey can't remember the other one heckuva team. Marcus Brown from Memphis was a great talent so was Les Taylor some great teams and coaches Mark Gottfried, Steve Newton, Nick Cronin, Steve Prohm, Ron Greene and his four to score teams back before shot clock, and of course Cal Luther started it, Ron Greene you may remember took the 78 UK team to the wire before losing while then coaching Mississippi State he had Gary Hooker who came to Murray State with him he was a great player. It was fun times

Have hit up both Sienna and UAlbany games, I like to see the local teams do well but don't sweat it if they should lose.
