Dirk Minniefield on the pre-game...

Dirk was the biggest waste of talent that has ever played at Kentucky. With his raw talent he should have been one of the greatest players in the history of Kentucky basketball, and a star in the nba. He was neither. He had to many interests other than basketball. What a waste.
You sorry POS. How the hell can you make a statement like that? Of all the great guards that have played at UK, Dirk’s the all time assist leader. How the hell can that be the the biggest waste of talent that’s ever played at UK? Your an idiot to make a post like this. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Plus, you’re most likely a real asshole, and no real UK fan.

I think for a time DM was working for the cnba in some capacity... does anyone know what he's doing these days. One of my favorites.

What a post ....you must be proud

The fact that he has worked for the NBA for over 30 years helping educate on substance abuse etc is to be admired playing that role as a former player has been a positive impact on current players

Just being honest. If you want to sugar coat Dirk go ahead. he wasted that awesome athletic talent that he was blessed with and that was just the way it was. That was his choice if he would have channeled his interests to his basketball career he could have benanl all time great, but he did not and ended up in the penitentiary instead. That's just the way it is and everything I said was true, if you think not then you don't know anything about him or his career.

Listening now. Goose doing the interview.

Didn’t know Dirk was active like this !

Cool man - i LOVED me some Dirk #10 back in the day

quick as a rattlesnake and probably Halls most athletic guard?

Most of the other guard’s i remember from Halls teams were bigger/ slower and generally better shooters ((Clayltor, Macy, Masters, Harden, Blackmon))

Dwight Anderson was exceptionally athletic but i THINK he was a forward??

Davender was unique -

Beal was close to Dirks quickness before his knee injuries

I believe his not showing his scoring ability was a Joe B mandate...he didn't want his p.g. jacking up jumpers when he had Bowie and Turpin on the blocks and Hord and Master on the wings
That is very true. He clearly was expected to play a role of distributor. But even then he seemed to lack a confidence he had in high school at the next level and was a hesitant shooter and driver it seemed.

Calling someone an idiot on a basketball board shows your lack of intelligence. Everything I said about Dirk is true. When you post on here don't let the facts get in your way. I watched Him play and kept up with him afterwards, . Did you even ever watch him play ? I highly doubt it, and you know absolutely nothing about me. Calling people names on a basketball is pretty sick, and individuals like yourself is why everyone from other teams hate Kentucky

Dwight was a guard, but I seem to remember Joe B playing some 3 guard sets w/ him, just a little bit. May've won a notre dame game for us because their small forward didn't have a snowball's chance in hell of staying in front of him, and dwight got to the basket repeatedly for an assortment of lay-ups, floaters and dunks. If I'm not misremembering...

Look if you are a fan from another team as you say nobody wants to read your negative comments. Just stay on your teams board. You can’t be objective here and to trash someone who turned his life around is pretty low class.

always something special about the UK teams you remember as a kid — those Hall teams from the early/mid 80s were the ones where i started really learning the players and coming to an understanding of the opponents etc etc

to this day i think of Minnifield when i see jersey #10

thanks for posting this man !

You make a good point. For me real interest started around '75.

Same...of course my pops and older brothers had games on before then that I'd watch for 2 minutes in passing, but the first game I remember actively watching from beginning to end and being totally vested in was the '75 regional final against IU. Watched every televised game I could (listened to the mid-week ones that were rarely shown on t.v., esp. live, on the radio) from that point forward.

interesting trivia to note that those’UK teams kind of wore a navy blue uni similar to what Duke has now -

the 1978 Title game looked like the home / away jerseys of the same team right ?

and of course — i believe that was the era when PENIS TONGUE WILDCAT LOGO ROAMED THE EARTH, CHILDREN!!!!!
