Did we upgrade a single position in the portal?

Still need a left tackle, and all kinds of help on the d. Looks like upgrades imo. With Key and Brown getting open was it mostly the o-line s fault or a combo of o-line and them not being physicall enough to?

Center and QB are two most important positions on offense. I see potential improvement there but otherwise I think everything else is a wash and the receiver room has gone in the wrong direction. We still need more OL and DL players so perhaps we might benefit from players now on playoff teams.

Having stated all of this we were a 4-8 team with our eight losses still on the schedule.. We did not score more than 20 in any of those losses and there is no real reason to hope for anything really different. 5-7 to me is a best case scenario which will allow Stoops to keep his job. Worse case is 2-10 or 3-9 which is just as likely.

I think the early schedule is a bit of a problem for a team full of transfers. Ole Miss in week 2 is a really big game. Ole Miss will have the same issue except they pretty much land who they want in the portal.

Bottom line you should have a good idea if they nailed the portal.

No matter who the QB is, it would also help if we would actually call a 5 yard slant instead of deep shots down the sideline or swing passes with relatively little in between. Our QB talent has definitely been spotty at best, but our scheme hasn’t done them any favors. Those kind of short quick throws the rest of the conference makes to look effortless just don’t happen much for us, and I think a lot of it is on the play design and play calling intentionally avoiding those kind of throws even though it makes no sense.
Bingo. ^^^^^^^^
Winner, winner, chicken dinner.
Our offensive woes starts and ends with head coaching scheme..........

NO... anything saying otherwise is merely coping and spin.

If positive, it is only spin and coping?

If negative, then, that’s merely bitchin’ and moaning!

Either is typical of forums.

The OP has it about right: we will see if upgrades have been made by the product on the field.

Until then, the only thing close to objective proof one-way-or-the-other is rankings by recruiting services.

I think the story is the floor is higher and the team is healthier.

We have a qb who was a starter and had experience. He has to learn the offense, but that's better than that and how to play the position.

Running backs. Instead of 2, we have 4. Some big, some explosive.

O line, maybe not more talented, but healthy. Depth. Stable.

Receivers. Might not be as talented but get better production.

I think we're better than last year, but I don't think we meet last year's expectations. All comes down to Stoops and staff. There is history this staff can get results, will be key if they can get it back

I agree with a couple of these points. Brown and Key are mehs to me.

It's not like this is the first year the O'line has been a disaster. Ever since Schlarman died the whole thing has been on a deep downhill slope. We have blamed it on the O'line coach every year, even going so far as to fire Yesner.

Well, Yesner went to the Houston Texans. The Texans now have the best O'line in the entire NFL. So...it appears that Yesner wasn't really the issue after all. Nor any of the SIX OCs that have been here.

OCs fault? Well, Tampa Bay is playoff bound, and he who shall not be named, has the fifth ranked scoring offense in his first year.

What about the WRs? I can't say I remember any truly exceptional WRs coming out of this program in the last twelve years. Wandale maybe. What happened to the most talented WR room in UK history? WR coach's fault again? Idk, we've had seven during Stoop's tenure.

Unless the problem is finally identified I can't see it being fixed. If you need a hint the answer rhymes with Poops.
Who is the OC at Miami Fla?

I saw that WVU had a backup OT that was projected to be a starter was in the portal. Other than that there aren't a whole lot of LT's on the block. Maybe putting weight on that TE transfer is our best bet. LOL.

Chris Strausser is the Texans OL coach not Yenser.
Yenser is an assistant to the OL coach. Same role he had with the 49ers. When a vacancy opened up as the OL coach the 49ers passed him up and hired another guy instead to fill that role. We then hired him.
He used to coach at California and the lines kept getting worse under him and he was asked to leave. He took the job at Kansas and they were putrid. Possibly the worst team in the country during his time there.

The start of our OL problems started with recruiting going back to 2017.
Our pass blocking has always been an issue here. We went through many QBs because they were getting blown up on the field. Many just over look that fact because they only want to see this as a present problem but has been this way even before Stoops got here.
We were great at run blocking but pass blocking has been bad for many years

That is so much coach speak…Stoops and Bush and Wolford had a disaster season….snd Stoops has commanded the ship on quite a few offensive disasters

Last year we were sold Mincey from Tennessee, Farmer from Florida, Brock from UGA, Traynum from Ohio st, etc

Now we’re being sold kids from smaller programs and now we don’t have Brown, Key and some returning players to compliment

As stated the offense couldn’t be any worse…but I don’t see a big uptick to be honest. Smells like stoops and Mitch are just selling crap to cover their awful decisions

Defense wasn't all world either. Our DBs were probably the worst they have ever looked in the Stoops era.
