Did Strong get fired?

I have said in other posts regarding CCS was the donors and wealthy alumni are very powerful and none wanted Charlie. Red McCombs, the billionaire San Antonio auto dealer, philanthropist and former professional sports owner has been outspoken in his opposition to Charlie's hiring. He had a great many more ultra wealthy Texas Exes agreeing with him.

None of this has anything to do with Charlie's ability as a coach or a person. It has to do with a perception (or delusional perception) of the template (Darrell Royal) they perceive is their perfect coach. Mack Brown talked the talk and walked the walk. He could recruit, but wasn't much of a coach. He didn't have to be. He had a great staff to do everything for him.

To compound matters, the hated Aggies now have the most beautiful and slightly larger capacity stadium. The Aggies command recruiting prowess inTexas. The Longhorn network ran the Aggies, Nebraska, Missouri and Colorado out of the Big 12.

And a good man and fine coach is caught squarely in the bullseye of a storm likely to lead him to another head coaching position.
