Did Reed Sheppard lose his “Lifetime Y” card?

I know people are passionate about UK bball. I love it. I’ve loved it as far back as I can remember. But some people are acting like Reed chose the wrong side in the freaking Civil War. He wore a damn tshirt while still repping UK shorts. Yes, it’s not a great look, but it’s not near as serious as some of you folks are still making it out to be.

if he’d worn it on just another random day, I doubt we would’ve noticed. But to parade around in it in front of the media on the same day Arky was playing UK was intentionally and needlessly provocative. He should’ve known better.

As said before, it’d be more understandable if he was from another state. But I don’t know how a kid from a UK family raised in Eastern Kentucky wouldn’t understand how badly that would be taken by the folks back home.

Cal blew the season by making reed riding pine. Yet out of all of reeds coaches that guy he has one year
Is his coach. Reed evidently a cal guy never accomplished squat at uk

First let me say that I'm pissed over this, and I have been pissed over it since Saturday night. My honest opinion is that Reed simply tried to be too cute. He's a small-town kid that has hit the big time and on Saturday night he tried to be "cool" and when Kentucky lost, it backfired majorly. There's nothing more cringy than someone who is noticeably trying to be "cool" and Reed has taken this on. It reminds me a little of when Tim Couch was with Green Bay as a back-up and bleached his hair for the "frosted tips" look.

I'm not mad that Reed is trying to pay homage to Cal, I'm disappointed because he invited controversy with how he did it. He thought this would be a clever and cute with this stunt and it just came off as insecure and dumb. Cal is your guy? Fine, send him a private text to tell him you're rooting for him. That wasn't enough for Reed. He wanted to be cool and display it out in the open to fit in with a group that doesn't have any college hardware but they do have the fact that they played for Cal.

Make no mistake, had Reed won anything of significance during his short time at UK he would not have done this. He would have understood the grit and determination and the meaning of accomplishing something for his team and he would have never tried to take anything away from that. He didn't win anything, so now he has to pump up the fact that he played for Cal because it's frankly all he has.

Fav ever ???? Dude wasnt in my top 25 before this brain dead stunt . To me he will remember as a solid player , no star at all, and a guy that choked as badly as any player in UK history in the NCAAT , and this stunt ... thats what I'll remember him by ... he should move to Ark and retire , tbecause his basketball career is going to be short . I hope
I put Reed up there with Brandon Stockton, JP Blevins...

Did you feel this way when Derrick Rose came to a UK shootaround? It ain’t that deep man
I have NEVER seen Derrick Rose wear a UK shirt. And UK hasn’t played Memphis since Cal left there. Reed wore that shirt on the day that UK played his former coach. Now, if Reed would have worn that Arkansas shirt on a day that the Hogs played UT, our fans would have no problem with it.

Derrick Rose wasn’t from Memphis and his parents didn’t play there either.

It’s bad optics 100% and poor logic on Reed’s part, but some of the stuff I’ve seen fans say is wayyyyyyy too far

This is just a poor investment in the future. It doesn't look like anyone is going to remember his NBA career. He would've always had a home with BBN. Players need to take a look at Givens and Kenny. They are more than just former players. Pope is the same. Don't burn your bridges kid. We would've remembered you. Now we'll remember that gameday shirt.
He would have never been remembered like Givens or Walker. Because they actually accomplished things at UK Reed did not. He might have been remembered that way if he had returned and actually had some notable success at UK.

Dead to me. Accomplished nothing at Kentucky. He’s going to wish he didn’t do that when his NBA career fizzles out in a couple years and he wants to come back to Kentucky and make some money signing autographs.
Dude got 30 Million dollars. Im pretty sure he is not gonna be back here begging to sign autographs for money if he never plays another minute in the NBA.

Dude got 30 Million dollars.
More than that. His first contract’s worth around $46 million.

Unless he’s a complete idiot with money, that should easily be enough to ensure he’ll never need the BBN’s help …even if he never gets another contract.

I may be wrong here, but I think he is supportive of Cal because he feels Cal made him rich.

He is in the League now so to be honest I don't really care either way. I just find it hilarious that all of these former players and national talking heads feel that Cal is so fragile that they have to come to his rescue. Coaches say all of the time how players must be tough when going into a hostile environment. Coaches are excluded from being tough?

ANY of the other Coach Cal guys I would have understood (although not liked it). A kid from Kentucky, whose parents played at Kentucky (the Ultimate Legacy) ... I just thought he would have thought it out better.

When Cal leaves Arkansas in 2-3 years, that picture will live forever. And Reed has no ties to Arkansas and they are one of our rivals.

If you want to support Cal, get a Coach Cal shirt. Whatever. But he is not from Arkansas, didn't play at Arkansas ... it just rubbed me the wrong way.
It rubbed BBN collective the wrong way ... because it was wrong. My father taught me many years ago, folks from Kentucy, especially the mountains, once they have given you their loyalty and trust, it is there forever through good and bad times ... unless you betray that loyalty and trust. Once betrayed, it's best to just run. No exceptions. Loyalty and commitment are a precious commodity. Player loyal to the University through good times and bad should and can expect love and support to the end of their days from BBN and businesses within the Bluegrass. It's just the way it is and has always been. A dumbshit like Calipari will never understand it as well as the dumbshits in the sports media. Looking at you Greenberg, you dumbass.

Exactly. Thank you for having common sense.

I kind of agree with you on this. However; Reed has had time to at least attempt some damage control and he’s just crickets. And his mom quoting scripture is enough. They’re too much and they can take their new money and run far away. We don’t need them.

He was just in the game for a bit. The announcer said "Reed Sheppard looks like Reed Sheppard's little brother, he looks so young".

uhhhh, he is young. And the people here saing "F-Reed" to a 21 year old kid.............what a bunch of clowns.

His comment illustrates how bad the problem got with Cal. Cal and his players cared about Cal, not about UK or the fans. Now UK fans have to listen to his sanctimonious bullshit for at least one more year. Hopefully the teams meet in the tourney.
oh ... I meant the SEC tourney. Cal might flame out and not make the big dance...again.

“He’s my coach”, ok well he’s also the coach that had to pressured to offer you the scholarship as well. I get being loyal etc but who knew brownies were the key to the kids soul……for life. Cal thought he was bigger than the program and these former players seem to help stroke that ego of his with stunts like this.
They help stroke that ego because they also think they are bigger than the program hence all of the trouble and complaints to begin with. They have been told they are the greatest thing since the invention of the pocket on a shirt. They came here for the coach and not the program. So I understand they want to back their coach but they should also understand to do it with class. Most have some haven't.

Reed’s 21. He got a 40+ million dollar contract which is lifetime filthy rich wealth for he and his family. He did a REALLY stupid thing. PLEASE don’t tell me he didn’t know he was spitting in the face of the BBN. He’s old enough and smart enough to know he made an ass wipe move. But people like you don’t get it. He doesn’t need or care about UK or the BBN. As they say in basketball…. he got his. GBB.
