Cats won't miss a beat at the sg spot. I'm telling you Diallo aka smooth operator is the real deal.He is a better athlete then Monk and just as explosive. If he tightens up his jumpshot he will be hard to stop one on one.

Best case scenario for the team is that he's nowhere near as good as is being claimed right now but hits that stride mid-season. Or else, I agree with Titles1 that he won't be here at all.

As long as he can drive to the basket. when we needed a basket we always had Fox or Briscoe to drive to lane and get an easy layup or foul, it was almost a guarantee.

He's explosive and taller yes and will be hard to guard but diallo is not a shooter. Hopefully he can hit one or two 3s a game and attack more than monk given the fact he's taller, but youbmight be a little off on this one butters. Monk when he was on could score at will while diallo will have to get most of his driving to the basket. How ya been smooth?

I’m expecting a slightly-better version of Archie Goodwin, with more strength and the potential for better defense.

That is to say, I’ll temper my expectations on Diallo until I see something that tells me otherwise.

I think you need to slow down.Diallo is good but no way he is as good as Monk. That guy was amazing for us and Diallo doesn't need the added pressure of Monk comparisons.

What? You don’t like comparisons that pit perhaps the greatest freshmen scoring guard in UK history against a kid who hasn’t even played a real college game yet?

sure hope to God he puts dudes on posters more than Monk did this year. From his mixtapes on youtube I was convinced Monk was gonna dunk a someone at least every other game. Only had like 2-3 really nice dunks all season. Spent most of his time shooting jumpers rather than attacking the rim.

"tighten up his jumpshot"

That is a pretty big deal, especially for a SG. I think athleticism, while important, is overrated by some. More importantly can you put the ball in the basket. It will be hard to exceed Monk in that area. I loved Monk's mid-range game, it wasn't guardable and he didn't miss those often. But there are areas where Diallo has the chance to be better than Monk (rebounding and defense).

Ratchet up that hype there smooth. Heck, I heard he snatched 3 dollar bills off the top of the backboard. In one jump. With his teeth. Heck, won a pickup game against 5 guys the other day. They played to 30 and he spotted them 28 pts. He ended up winning 30 - 24. And what do you mean tighten up his shot? He made 10 straight from half court. Banked 8 of them off the Gillespie memorial urinal. He's so fast that during full court sprints, he's already standing at the back of the line itiching to go again before Cal can get the O out of go.

Kid is basically a high school senior. You got no clue what he's going to do. Hopefully he will develop well in spite of all the BS hype spewed by this sort of nonsense.

A little off topic, but Goodwin is severely underrated as a player and athlete here. If he was our 3 this year he wouldn't have been asked to do everything and we'd have another banner.

There’s a reason New Jersey just signed the young man to a two year deal. He can play. If he ever gains a semi-regular jump shot, he’ll be in the league for a while.

I'm gonna buy into the hype of Diallo. Think he's the real deal. I've got a feeling his stroke is really good now and can at least nock down open ones consistently. The thing is the scouts know how athletic he is and how his shot is the biggest problem. If he goes to the combine and workouts and nails 3s...he may not be back.

He will not be nearly the scorer that Monk was. Not even close. IMO he averages 10-12 points a game, He will not average over 20 like Monk.

Smooths next post will continue to be more exciting and cryptic as this one. How ya been smooth?

I don't know about that but then again, that's not really saying too much since we were so close to winning it all with the team we had. If we had ANY kind of productive SF, we probably hang the banner. So, that's not saying too much. But about Archie, he is a completely different player now than he was when he was here. I've watched a lot of him obviously when he was here and since he's been in the league and he's really worked hard to become a good player. With that said, let's not act as though he was this type of player when he was here. A lot of it was immaturity, I think and simply being so young. I don't think it would matter what team he was on, that wasn't changing for him at that age. I think he would've been the same type of player and may not have been able to take a back seat to Malik and DeAaron on certain nights. He wanted to be the man.

I do not believe he is nearly the shooter that Monk is, or with as much range. He will be good, and will only be at UK one year, but as good as Monk, not yet.

Diallo is taller and more physical than Monk and probably has the same or better leaping ability. Looks like he's more willing to take it to the rim than Monk based on watching tapes. Almost certainly is not the shooter that Monk is and will not be able to take over a game and score 47.

If he stays with the Cats he should develop into a really good SG as the season progresses. The added time practicing with the team is a big bonus so he will be ahead of other first year kids.

He doesn't need to leave for the NBA this season. Put in that work at Kentucky and show the scouts he is worthy of being a lottery pick.

How ya been "carpe" boy?

My opinion? Diallo would be silly to try to jump into NBA draft this year. He is an unknown to NBA scouts and this is a pretty good draft at the top already. Next year's draft is much weaker and if Diallo does what we all expect he will he could be a high lottery pick with a contract worth far more than what he would possibly get by going this year. Just an opinion but I think it's fairly safe to believe that Diallo will be staying and playing for UK this season. Now, to compare him to Monk at this early stage? I see no comparison at all, different games, different physical attributes, different players. I sure hope he does come out with a better perimeter game than what we've been told and he could then become pretty special.

I don't know if he's considered an unknown to gms, I'm sure they are well aware of his game and have seen him play in high school and the say circuit, but I do agree with you that he would be foolish to try and go pro given the fact he has seen zero game action since he got to uk which was the plan all along. If there was a chance he would possibly enter the draft after a half semester at ky, I'm not so sure cal would of taken him and not played him at all.

Hump was good in the off-season last year too.

Well damn, didn't they tell you that reason and perspective are banned on message boards? Can we bronze this post and put it on a plaque for everyone who comes to this board? Please?
Let's let Hami be the best version of himself. By March of 18 that will probably be pretty dang good.

Based on various tapes including the "king of New York" tape, I agree Diallo is physically gifted and a better ball handler and probably quicker (and taller) than Monk. Certainly he is not the long range bomber that Monk was (is). He will probably get to the foul line more and be better on defense. He does remind me of Goodwin on steroids or better still, Dwight "the blur" Anderson of yesteryear. It remains to be seen how effective his 3 pt. shot is.
