Diallo doesn't need guarantee of first round pick to remain in draft

Nobody's having a meltdown dude, you can stop trying to make it seem that way.
Just because there's a difference of opinion doesn't mean anyone is freaking out.
Ok, if you say so.

I wouldn't get that impression from actually reading this thread, but if you say so.

This is not about the history of Calipari - who has 1 title here, btw. This is about one pretty small thing, invlving one player and Cal's refusal to play him.

Sick and tired of the hoity toity PC nose-in-the-air KSR sunshine pumping bs. We are allowed to complain about Cal not playing an NBA caliber 2/3 man, especially when we had no 3 man. None. We played isiah Briscoe there, and we had a freak of nature 1st rd pick sitting next to fn Brad. Who was dressed and eligible to play every game. If you're trying to win titles, you might play that guy at some point in the season, especially if your peremiter D is Swiss cheese and you aren't particularly great at rebounding.

What is so wrong about discussing this *one* issue? People are psycho. Anything negative - OMG SO YOU WANNA FIRE CAL??? WHAT ABOUT HIS ONE CHAMPIONSIP HUH!!!
This would be a fine post if not for using "one title" as a dig for a coach who has been here eight years.

Reveals that it is, in fact, about the history of Calipari, and it makes it really hard to pull off the "I'm the rational one here" shtick.

It's littered throughout this whole thread. Anyone that says anything negative about Diallo jumping ship is accused of whining or bitching.

I guess we can start a board where the only rule is that you can only post positive thoughts, everything else will be deleted.

I think some get offended if anyone dares say anything negative about Cal or something Cal has done. Newsflash, we can love Cal as a leader of the program, but still disagree with some things he says or does.

For example: draft night 2010 was not the greatest night in UK's history. I think most here would disagree with that, but, as shown on the 30 for 30, Cal still stands by that statement.

So, for the "Cal's way or the highway" guys, just because we disagree with something Cal says or does, doesn't mean we hate the guy, chill out with the accusations.

Again, has Hamidou Diallo completely cut ties with UK. I missed that.

Nobody ever said he did, so you did miss something.
This is a message board and YOU are posting in a thread about Diallo saying he does not need a 1st round guarantee to stay in the draft.
Why are you not prepared to read comments about fans that WOULD not be okay with him staying in the draft for various reasons? You and a few others are in shock over this whole thing.
That's odd to me.

Same group of people did the same crap with Tubby and Gillispie or any of the players. It's just hero worship. They cannot handle any criticism of something or they lose it.

Painting with a broad brush. Also, I've yet to hear a specific action or inaction of Cal's you are criticizing. Just generic this sucks and Cal should be held accountable garbage. What should he have done?

Has Diallo officially left UK?

Not the last I checked.

So, what, you're saying it's OK, totally justified and defensible, to have some psychotic meltdown about something that hasn't even happened yet?

The people having an aneurysm about Diallo strike me as being almost exactly the same as the people who go into game threads and have a meltdown because UK is down by 10 in the first half of a game.

Those people often end up looking like idiots. And even if the meltdown turns out to have a justification a few hours later, it's never really a good look.

And what will your feelings be if HD stays in the draft?

That it was a gamble that didn't pay off, much like Enes Kanter. And a situation unlikely to be repeated. There just aren't very many 5 star recruits who voluntarily stay an extra year of HS and are old enough to enter the draft.

I think the plan all along was for Diallo to come a semester early, practice but not play, go to the NBA camps, then play for UK next year. Nothing has happened yet that should be the least bit surprising. If he stays in the draft, it's a swing and a miss for Cal, but more like a swing and a miss on a pitch that was a little low, as opposed to a pitch that bounced 5 feet in front of the plate (which is metaphorically how a lot of people are treating it).

The only thing that would probably tick me off is if Diallo stays in the draft and goes in the 2nd round. That would seem to indicate he never had any intention of playing in college. Still, I'd leave it up to Cal to decide how to treat that.

Even if he did go 2nd round I'm not really sure you can say he had no intentions of playing college ball. If he stays in the draft that's probably something we will never know.

I mean what if he stays in thinking he's a first round pick but drops to the 2nd round.

What if Bamba was like "I'll come to KY, but I don't want to play and hurt my draft stock, so I am just going to practice."....y'all cool with that?

Not really...but I'd rather have him sit on the UK bench instead of playing for Duke or Texas or anybody else.

Sort of the "You're either with us or against us..."

Your negativity is exhausting. We did not suck before Noel's injury. We were 17-6 and coming off 5 wins in a row.
We were losing to the 7th ranked gators with, or without him. 17-7 8-3 and freshly kicked out of the top 25 so we were unranked withat loss. We didnt suck, but we were not good. I believe a ten seed would have been our ceiling.

Always possible, and the reality is that the huge majority of players taken in the top half of the second round end up with guaranteed money for at least a few years. It's not a requirement, but it's standard practice for most NBA teams. Tyler Ulis has a contract very much in line with late 1st round picks.

Still, if Diallo goes that route, I think he easily could have done it just staying in HS. Leaving UK for ANY possible NBA spot is a little different than leaving UK for a good NBA spot. I think it would show that the idea for him was always to leave ASAP, and/or he was deluding himself into thinking he was willing to wait a year.

Ok, if you have to answer today, does Diallo go higher than Bam? I would hope not, but big men are not in demand in this draft.

I'm listening and reading that Diallo has a shot to get in the 1st round. How, I have no idea because I haven't seen enough of Diallo like most of us here.
