Diallo Discusses Shooting (Can't Have too Many Shooters)

Diallo won't become one of the best outside shooters in the country during his freshman season at Kentucky, but the good news is, Kentucky doesn't need him to be. The kid can improve his shooting enough to become known as average instead of below average. If the kid is willing to put in the time and work in the gym, his shooting will start to show some improvement.

Cal wants him to improve a lot so he doesnt have to start Baker over him. Baker is very good and everyone knows it..And like some of you jokers on this site keep saying and truly think its funny, you cannot have too many shooters. It is the big neutralizer.

Isn't he a sophomore?

I think Diallo is taking Briscoe's spot in the offense. All he has to do is shoot it better than Briscoe. That shouldn't be too difficult.

With Green, Knox, and Washington or Gabriel, he will have three good to decent shooters on the floor with him most of the time.

That should take some of the pressure off of him.

Diallo's playstyle doesn't resemble Briscoe's in any way other than a reputation for bad shooting. Briscoe was crafty and played below the rim. Diallo plays above the rim, posts up to beat smaller defenders, and races in the open court. You won't see any Isaiah Briscoe in Diallo.

He'll surprise some as far as 3pt shooting goes. He's worked and worked all summer and before on his shot. He knows that's his weakness. He's got a good looking stroke. I doubt he shoots under 35% from 3. We have 2-3 other guys who should be around 40%. Knox and Green, PJ probably around 38%. Same with Gabriel if he can shoot it more consistently. He shot great at times last year. Shai and Baker could and should be around 40% off the bench too.

So Diallo will shoot 35% or higher from 3's? Very interesting... I hope you are right, but it's highly doubtful.

I just hope he can hit around 30 %

Hopefully Diallo can stay away from the baseline

Diallo should never take more than 2 a game, unless hes 2 for 2. Hes going to be spending most of his time slashing and defending. Shoot just enough to keep opposing defenses honest. Ill be happy with low 30s. Ecstatic for 35 and up

I really, really...really hope you are right, but I truly doubt it.

That really concerns me. If he is really a sophomore he will only have three years of eligibility left unless he was a redshirt.

By rule his eligibility began when he enrolled at beginning of 2nd semester. He will be eligible through 1st semester of his fourth year of play or 5 years after HS graduation. Unless, of course, he becomes a professional basketball player.

By rule, an athlete has 5 calendar years from the time they first enroll to play 4 seasons of competition. His eligibility clock began when he enrolled, so he has 4 1/2 years left to play 4 seasons. He could play 4 years in a row starting now and have normal freshman-sophomore-junior-senior seasons if he chose. His early semester has no impact on how many seasons he can play, unless he loses another year to transfer, academics, etc.

It's no different than a football early enrollee or typical freshman redshirt, except his redshirt was only one semester.

Well he wasn't hitting those outside shots consistently in the Egypt tourney which was after the linked video. So, still a work in progress on that aspect of his offense.

I'm really confused why is this an interview from when he was still deciding to go pro or not when he was clearly being interviewed at the combine? I don't care if he has a 2 inch vertical if he can make plays and drive to the basket he will hit enough shots to keep the defense honest

How many kids come in and have a rep for not being even a decent shooter and come in and shoot well ??? EVERYONE on here said Markell Fultz couldn't shoot a lick. That dude shot 41 for UDub last year. Then a lot more examples. Then to a lesser example with us....People knew Monk would shoot well as in 35-36% ish. But not 40. Which he did in the regular season.

On the other hand. Guys like Fox and Briscoe live up to their reputation. It depends on how good their stroke is, confidence, how hard the kid works over the year before they get to UK. Over the summer and etc, etc, etc.
