Yeah, telling the truth in 2022 is a bad move. You have to make sure what you say fits an agenda. Not a great way to endear yourself to a coach or team. Also not a way to get other college coaches to give you a shot. Bad play.

We beat UGa by five once that year. Just shows how different conference games are. Everyone that is any decent has your number. And will play you hard.I used to have the schedule with final scores printed out from that season. This was before I could go google it like now. Lol.
It was a crazy number of games that we topped 100 points. I think we hit 110 plus in at least 3 games.
I do remember outside of losing the SEC championship game to Miss St, we beat every SEC team except one by double digits including that Miss St. team.
Tubby Smith coached Georgia played us under 10 at least once maybe twice.five
Remind me again who’s causing the divide?I think there is an element of bitterness to it. It’s no secret that DA has wanted to join our staff in the past …but to no avail. Cal wants his guys, not former Pitino guys.
The tweet is true, but not the smartest thing to do if you’re looking to get in with the current staff.
Last I heard he was coaching at Louisville MaleWhere’s he coaching again?
Still think Pitino threw that game.We beat UGa by once that year. Just shows how different conference games are. Everyone that is any decent has your number. And will paly you hard.
That SEC championship game ticks me off. It was the day before our Youth Sunday game and we had the radio playing in the sanctuary as we practiced. Was not a fun afternoon.
Asking where he’s coaching is taking a dump? Good take. Or you could have just answered the questionWow.....taking a dump on a UK legend....nice job
You mean the guys Pitino developed? I mean he made those players Pitino is probably the greatest at player development. It’s not like this roster lacks talent.22 have like 1 NBA player starting on our team.
96 team had NBA player coming off the bench.
and the none NBA players were Grady's level or higher....
No clue what you are saying.Pat I heard he was coaching at Louisville Male
Me too! Walker sit out a longggg time.Still think Pitino threw that game.
Just imagine how many points that team would have had if they had known about the dribble handoff.
Umass was no P5 team. That’s right off the top of my head. It wasn’t as disimilar as you think.Completely different era of basketabll. That 96 team was amazing, but that was a different time. Talent level outside of P5 schools was nonexistent, AAU ball didn’t exist, just really another world. So if you were serious about basketball you went to a P5 school. Now that doesn’t happen. Players go just about anywhere. So Talent level on these big name school rosters was stout. When you watched a P5 game, it was entertaining. Now talent is widely spread out. High value players sometimes skip college altogether. We can all bitch and moan about it but those days of college ball aren’t ever coming back and not a thing we can do about it.
I love DA, and he’s not completely wrong here, but he’s not completely right either.
UK shot 58% for the night. And 43% from the arc. When’s the last time you can recall any team shooting that high of a percentage for a game? We couldn’t miss.
LSU also scored 97 points. 55 points in the second half. Heck we scored another 40. Nobody played defense after halftime. Fun game. But just a different time.
I certainly don’t think Cal watches much YouTube.
96 had a senior two guard, a junior point guard, a senior power forward a senior center and a sophomore small forward. If the 2015 team would have stayed together for two or three years they may have been as good. People seem to forget that players used to stay in school and get much better than they are now. I know we're not going back to that but the games changed mainly by that. Ron Mercer barely got off the bench in 96. DA was coming off the bench. That is a really good team.
Then the next season we sat at home after losing to robert Morris while pitino won the titles. Whores or notI’m sorry. Did that 2012 UofL team not make the final four only to be bitch smacked by us?
Nah. We just couldn’t find the ocean. Shot 33 percent from the field. Miss St shot like 50%. That sends you home. So unless guys like Delk and Walker were purposefully missing shots, we just gonad a clunker. Like every great team does.Still think Pitino threw that game.
Cheated to win a title. If Cal’s FF at UMass and Memphis don’t count (when he was cleared) Pitino’s title at UofL (where he KNEW) definitely doesn’t.Then the next season we sat at home after losing to robert Morris while pitino won the titles. Whores or not
Who the hell did we beat in the 1996 Ff???Cheated to win a title. If Cal’s FF at UMass and Memphis don’t count (when he was cleared) Pitino’s title at UofL (where he KNEW) definitely doesn’t.
You can’t read between the spell check. SadNo clue what you are saying.
UMass. But that game was vacated. It’s why technically only Rick is the only coach to take theee schools to a FF. Even though minus the vacated games, Cal did it too.Who the hell did we beat in the 1996 Ff???
Yeah, telling the truth in 2022 is a bad move. You have to make sure what you say fits an agenda.
Yeah but there was more to that game than we shot poorly. IIRC, Pitino had some questionable coaching moves that were head scratchers.Nah. We just couldn’t find the ocean. Shot 33 percent from the field. Miss St shot like 50%. That sends you home. So unless guys like Delk and Walker were purposefully missing shots, we just gonad a clunker. Like every great team does.
Delk was 5/19 that game. Walker was 4/13. Yikes.
Mercer started 13 games and play nearly 20 minutes a game on a team where no one played more than 27. I wouldn’t call that barely getting off the bench. he scored 20 in 24 minutes in the national title game. DA started 24 games.
I definitely agree it was the better team. no need to exaggerate details to validate their greatness.

That SEC championship game ticks me off. It was the day before our Youth Sunday and we had the radio playing in the sanctuary as we practiced. Was not a fun afternoon. We were one a 27 game winning streak and just choked that game away. That hot shooting team couldn’t find the Gulf that afternoon. All I can remember Cawood saying was UK taking another shot and off the front of the iron. It was like Tuesday’s game in a way. Just couldn’t make a basket.
You talking about people flaunting things...hilarious and ironic.Geez, 1996 UK is probably the Greatest college basketball team of all time and had an amazing first half at LSU.
Why flaunt it like that instead of just being humble and a gracious winner?
If Cal was smart he’d hire DA! The guy knows his stuff! Literally still lives and breathes basketball.I think there is an element of bitterness to it. It’s no secret that DA has wanted to join our staff in the past …but to no avail. Cal wants his guys, not former Pitino guys.
The tweet is true, but not the wisest thing to do if you’re looking to get in with the current staff.
Surprisingly, there were many different starting fives that year that I didn’t totally remember. Hell, Turner and Pope started some games that season as well. Didn’t remember that until I watched some highlights.Mercer started 13 games and play nearly 20 minutes a game on a team where no one played more than 27. I wouldn’t call that barely getting off the bench. he scored 20 in 24 minutes in the national title game. DA started 24 games.

Tbf Walker played like ass that game. 4/13. I’d have benched him too.Mississippi State played out of their minds as well. they hit some ridiculous stuff. it was just their day. Pitino inexplicably benched antoine walker as well. And said after the game (paraphrasing) “i wanted them to see how much they needed each other”. So yeah im pretty sure at a certain point he decided to throw it so they’d go into the tourney pissed
If Cal was smart he’d hire DA! The guy knows his stuff! Literally still lives and breathes basketball.
Again, tbf I don’t believe in coincidences. He posts that after we lost two starters in a top 25 road game. If he didn’t mean it as a poke at Cal it sure looks that way.Cal first fans are the most sensitive group of people next to the transgenders. A former UK great makes an innocuous comment that applies to most of college basketball and they take it as a slight towards Cal.
Ain’t gonna happen. Cal’s never shown any interest in bringing a former UK player aboard his staff (well, except for Brad, who I don’t really count). And, if he ever does, it will be one that played for him, not Pitino. If Cal was smart he’d hire DA! The guy knows his stuff! Literally still lives and breathes basketball.

Both Anderson and Mercer averaged under half a game. Yeah I guess I got carried away with the barely played. Everybody played under Pitino.
For some reason minutes played is in the wrong column.

What's your problem, HH ? Is D.A. making your boy Calipari look bad ? Of course he is ! And you can't stand it !Geez, 1996 UK is probably the Greatest college basketball team of all time and had an amazing first half at LSU.
Why flaunt it like that instead of just being humble and a gracious winner?
Ship sinking? Isn't that being a little dramatic knowing our history?I’d say he sees the ship sinking and it pisses him off like those of us that see exactly what he’s venting about.
I know. I explicitly said “except for Brad” in that post. Did you not see that line? His son.
I think our disagreement is on how much difference players staying in school made. I think teams like the 96 team would have never ever had a shot clock violation against Wisconsin late. They would have been up by 15 to 20 points so it wouldn't have mattered. The team the 15 team lost to besides having John Higgins was an older team.ahh i see. yeah i just looked on sports reference. my only point was just i don’t know if they’d stomp the 2015 team. clearly better but that 2015 team was a bear to deal with because of their unheard of size for a college team. i think it’s the tallest college team in history on average height and average height of the starting lineup.
it wasn’t just the post players either. 2 6’5 starting guards is tough for other teams to handle and the twins were very solid defensively as sophomores and we had the dpoy.
i think it would be close because of the size and the fact that Cal spent most of his career deep in pitino’s head. Cal has just always had an answer for pitino’s pressure defenses.
Again though, the 96 team did a lot of other things well too. They had elite players at every position and one of the best benches of all time. i think in the end guys like devin booker and trey lyles would have been in over their heads in that game.
