Dan Dakich Reporting Jeff Brohm to Louisville

Because I’ve been around this fan base and message board long enough to know that when UofL or certain teams hire a good coach in any sport there are a whole lot of our fans that will try to convince themselves that the coach isn’t any good, or a fluke, or just got lucky, or they’ll go to extremes to nitpick the guy’s record in two years at Purdue of all places. I mean I’ve probably seen a dozen Jeff Brohm related threads on this board since the season started and they’re always about how terrible he is or his success is a fluke or how he’s overrated or something along those lines.

Our fans are so ridiculous. Louisville has had two BCS Bowl wins including a win over Florida. They had a Heisman winner two years ago. Them landing a successful up and coming coach will do wonders for them.

The key is to simply stop playing them. They are a sub-regional university, someone who should--even when things are rolling--be on par with Cincinnati, Tulsa, or Memphis. We are the flagship university of the state of Kentucky. Every time we play them, we stoop (no pun intended) to their level and elevate them to ours. We gain nothing from such an arrangement and they gain everything--even if we win. The fact that we play them every year is moronic.

Ohio State doesn't play Cincy.
Oklahoma doesn't play Tulsa.
Tennessee doesn't play Memphis.
LSU doesn't play Tulane.
Why the hell do we play UofL?
None of Cincy, Tulsa, Memphis, and Tulane are in the ACC. And none of those schools could even conceivably have the modern series lead on their “rival” that U6 has on UK. The only thing that would come from dropping the series is that we would look like we were too chicken shit to play them. A bad idea that just gets worse with time.

He didn’t exactly say he wasn’t going to U6.

Good point. Said speculation he had taken the job was false. Didn't say he wouldn't or wasn't going to.
Although I would speculate that 3 teams in 3 years would look pretty bad on his resume.
If he does, he does. Nothing we can do about it, but he would be inheriting a train wreck rather than continuing to build a program in the Big10.

GO CATS

Really 3 teams in 4 years and each move could be easily explained. If he goes to Louisville though, he’s not worried about explaining anything to anyone.

we have accepted mediocrity for to long

He will retire their. Not good for UK

If he wins at Louisville like some of you seem to think, he will have the big boys come calling. Are you telling me he will turn down the who's who of college football if they make an offer, because of some romantic hometown bs? Some of you seem to parrot the propaganda that floods out of hopeful U of L fans, far to easily.

This board does have a lot of fans with a healthy amount of respect for Louisville. Is it also like this on the basketball board?

Louisville wasn't in the ACC until very recently. We should have never played them in the first place. It benefited their program. We should not have done anything for their benefit, ever. You are probably right that, at this point, it would not damage them to drop the series, and it would make us like chicken shit. I'd drop it, anyway.

Probably should just give up on football and put that money into basketball--------like the ADs have done for most of the last 60 plus years-------until things got so bad we had the strike.

Serious question. Brohm is a Petrino protégé, correct? So Petrino has ONE losing season and they sh*tcan him. Look, Petrino with all his moral and personality shortcomings, is one of the better offensive minds in college football, albeit he has a history of letting his defenses decline through poor recruiting after a few years. Other than being a younger version of Bobby, how is Brohm any different? Everyone here is buying the hype, that Brohm is going to be a huge trade-up. I just don't see it. Seems like they are spending a buttload of money they don't have to get another version of Petrino, who they just ran off. Is he Petrino 3.0, or am I missing something? I mean he's 5-5 at Purdue, and some of you are acting like he's Bear Byrant.

I know you’re just joking but I’m pretty sick of basketball and care more about having a contender in football. Basketball has become a total joke.

Personally, I hate being in the SEC. it sucks in basketball and it’s too hard in football to win it. The ACC is not. It’s actually one we could compete in, I believe and in basketball it would be filled with people who cared about basketball.

Turns out that this was a false alarm. Brohm may well go to Louisville. He may stay at Purdue. Or maybe he goes somewhere else. A lot of posts apparently took this tweet as a done deal. Nope.

Cal is already losing 10+ games a year in the weak SEC. Imagine if UK went to the ACC. We may never make the NCAA tourney.

This is what lots of schools do that Kentucky doesn't do. As soon as there is a problem (Petrino going 2-8, losing players, not recruiting) they cut the cord and don't worry about buyouts etc, because they know that getting a good coach that builds up the program and wins games is the quickest way to make that money back.

Meanwhile, MB and Kentucky hang on to a coach (Joker) that everyone already knows can't hack it. And whats worse, MB and Kentucky hang on to that coach to the point of no return. What is happening at UL can be salvaged, theyre not too far gone. They are a couple of years removed from playing in big time bowls, having a heisman trophy winner, etc. So instead of allowing that to all be for not by hanging on to a coach that is going nowhere........boom, they cut ties and move on. And look what the reward is....Jeff Brohm, the hottest coach in the country.

Look, we're having an amazing year. We're staring 9-3 right dead in the eyes, but how confident is everyone about the future? We have an offense that features at least 3 players that will play on Sundays in Conrad, Benny, and Bowden and yet our play calling is as unimaginative as anything I've ever seen.

UL isn't waiting around to watch their football program get to a level that is beyond any fixing. Theyre addressing the problem right now. Whether its right or wrong, and whether it works out or doesn't, theyre not leaving it to chance. I'm afraid its going to work out well for them.

Were you one of the many begging for Mitch to hire Petrino?

No one will admit it but Brohm at UofL is bad for UK. The guy can coach, and if he’s bringing in pretty decent classes to Purdue I’m sure he’ll be doing the same (or likely better) at UofL. We’ll have the usual characters on here nitpicking every single one of his shortcomings in only two years at the dumpster fire that was Purdue, but I think deep down those people are worried because they know that the dude can coach. Anyone who says otherwise is either delusional or deeply biased. He’s an exciting young coach that can recruit. That’s not good news for UK fans, no matter how hard we try to convince ourselves that he’s the second coming of Joker Phillips.

I think people said that about the guy that he's replacing. He may be great, but doubt they will ever be the toughest game on UKs schedule.

Who cares. If UK's whole program is dependent on bad football at U of L then we have bigger problems to address. First of all the state of Kentucky doesn't produce that many high school football stars. Just not enough people so if he starts getting the top two or three players in the state, so what? Most of UK's players are from Ohio and the South anyway. Additionally it will be good for UK because the only way they take football serious (the administration) is when their rival (U of L) is half way decent. Keeps UK on their toes (investing in football) and not letting football slip back to the bottom as an afterthought as in the past. I for one am not worried.

I remember UK being owned and not having much of a chance against Petrino at UofL in his first stint. Deja Vu here with Brohm at UofL. Its not fun losing to your arch rival annually. If you don't live in Louisville, you don't get it.

Brohm is also recruiting Ohio and Michigan.

Exactly!

And Jeff Brohm angrily denounced them This May be the straw that ends the drama Uavel folks not too bright. They think that the Loserville job is a real gem Most media
Experts say the ACC is a run down league since Florida State has fallen on hard times Brohm would do better in the Big 10 than go to a near bankrupt Little Brother :(

Bill Snyder agrees with you.

Well, about fifty or so posters had a near panic attack at the very rumor that Brohm debunked. So it's not just the U6 fans who are gullible when it comes to rumors.

Well that’s because there is always a few dummys that can’t tell the truth to save their life’s. Lol. Of course we know he can recruit and he’s a good coach. I’d hate to see them get him because he’s one the the top younger coaches on the rise, in the game right now. He’s putting together a pretty good group in Purdue right now though so maybe he stays. I doubt it though. He’ll be at Louisville before long anyway, so may as well get started. . Damn it!!! Not scared one bit of him though. He will do a fine job there but the University Of Kentucky Wildcats are getting ready to become a Powerhouse Football Program. Louisville being good , will only help us move on up the rankings when we beat the feathers off them dirty birds!!! Wooooohoooo. Go cats.

You make a valid point but there is a glaring difference. LSU and tOSU don't have another P5 team instate. Tennessee plays Vandy, Oklahoma plays Oklahoma State. You can also and Auburn and Bama, Georgia and Georgia Tech, Clemson and South Carolina, Florida and FSU, all school with another P5 school in state and they play each other. If anyone would want to end those it should be Auburn and South Carolina, but both of those can't wait for the series to turn in their favor again. Carolina had a 5 game winning streak until CLemson just matched it. Tubberville had the saying "fear the thrumb" as he was putting up 5 in a row on Bama.

By not wanting to keep the series going I can only guess that the rivalry isn't as intense as all those others.

You continue as the most negative poster on this board year after year. So, Brohm will dominate the ACC and reduce UK to a driveling shroud of a team unable to even enter Cardinal Stadium with a chance to win. I’m certain Mark Stoops will look elsewhere for employment since Mr. Brohm will deliver a climactic blow to our program.
